St.
Lawrence has enabled Danielle Weaver ’07, Jamestown, NY
to realize her leadership potential. Danielle, a history major,
has led by example by being elected class president for three
consecutive years and by being selected as a student
delegate to the Alumni Council. She likes interacting
with the alumni and says, "The alumni are willing to help students
in any way they possibly can, whether it’s doing practice interviews,
locating internships, offering post-graduation advice and lots more."
Other leadership activities on Danni’s resume? Orientation
leader for two years and peer educator are two. In 2005-2006, Danielle, with
10 other students from their class ‘Peacemaking and Transformational
Leadership’ went to Los Angeles and taught inner
city school kids “anti-bullying and peace making skills.” “We
taught them to become peacemakers in their own community,” she
explains. Experiences like these and the sheer freedom and
diversity in education are what makes Danielle’s academic life
at St. Lawrence meaningful.
Danni attributes her decision to attend St. Lawrence to an admissions tour
guide who assisted her during one of her campus visits when she was
a senior at Southwestern Central High School. “She helped me
get rid of the ‘tunnel vision’ of St. Lawrence I had,” she
says, noting that she comes from a family of many SLU graduates. “Coming
to St. Lawrence has been the best decision I have ever made.” And
now it’s payback time. Danielle won a competitive position
as a 2006 Admissions Summer Intern.
Danielle is amazed at the amount of knowledge she has received
about the university through her job as the admissions intern.
This position is perfect for Danielle, who wants to pursue a career
in the field of higher education and earn a master’s degree
in educational leadership.
