T.J. Trevelyan ’06, Mississauga, Ontario,
has learned what it means to be a true team player. “You’ve
got to work hard to reach your goals,” he says. “Nothing
comes easy. You have to compromise and make decisions with
others and work together as a team in order to be successful.”
T.J.,
a history major, came on a recruiting trip to St. Lawrence for ice
hockey during his senior year of high school (Our Lady of Mount Carmel). “The
people were amazing,” he says. “I met the hockey team and went
to a game, and the excitement on this campus and in Appleton Arena was what drew
me to St. Lawrence.”
T.J.
has spent the last four years working hard to become the ice hockey player he
is today. His ability on the ice has not only been recognized by St. Lawrence,
but by the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic
Association as well. He’s received a number of awards and honors
throughout his four years, including Co-Most Valuable Player at St. Lawrence
for the 2005-2006 season, ECAC Player of the Year, National First Team All-American,
and was one of the top ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Award. T.J.
was also invited to the Inaugural Skills Competition in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, which he attended in March. “My parents, teammates, coaches and fans
have all helped me,” he says. “Appleton Arena has
been a great home for me.” After graduation, T.J. eventually plans on
playing in the National Hockey League. He hopes to one day to be
a teacher and coach hockey. “I’m excited about what’s
going to happen next. I’ll walk through what ever door opens for
me.”
When T.J. isn’t studying or playing hockey, he’s spending
time with his friends. “I have friendships here that will
last a lifetime,” he
says. Some of those friendships began with people from his First-Year
Program. “The relationships I have with people from my FYP are
and will continue to be really important to me.”
From hockey games to barbeques with friends, T.J. has enjoyed connecting
with everyone at St. Lawrence. “There are so many different
people at St. Lawrence, and it’s important to build relationships
with as many people as you can,” he says. “Because
of St. Lawrence, I have friends from all over the world.”
