For
Sarah Thomson '07, St. Lawrence is more than just
a college; it’s a community. Thomson, a junior psychology
major from Glens Falls, N.Y., explains: “What
initially attracted me to St. Lawrence was the sense of community
that I felt when I visited and spent the night during my college search.
Everyone I met was very welcoming and when I walked
around campus
I felt like I was already a student."
As befits any member of a community, Thomson is involved in many
aspects of the St. Lawrence community. She’s
a Presidential Diversity Scholar mentor, encouraging the scholars
to become engaged in campus cultural activities. She’s a member
of the Association for Campus
Entertainment, which plans social
and cultural activities; works in the admissions
office; and
plays in the String Ensemble. “But
the organization that has had the most impact on me is Chi Omega sorority,” she says. “The friendships
I’ve made and the experiences I’ve had have helped me
grow as a person, and will last beyond my four college years
to remind me how much I enjoyed my time at St. Lawrence.”
A community is made up of people, and Thomson says the best thing
about St. Lawrence for her is the people she continues to meet every
day. “I
really appreciate the different backgrounds and interests that
everyone brings to the table,” she says.
Post-graduation
plans for Thomson include graduate study in psychology. She
intends to earn a doctorate in counseling.
