Peter Snedeker’06, Greenwich, CT (his parents
moved there since Peter came to college, he graduated from Suffield
Academy) got a jump start on leadership. “I applied for a student
government committee chair position shortly after arriving on campus
as a first-year student and have been involved ever since,” he
says. It wasn’t long before Peter’s skills
were noticed; he was elected president of the student government
association (“Thelmo”) during his sophomore year.
“In my past role as president of the student government body, I had a remarkable
opportunity to interact with faculty, administrators and other staff on behalf
of the student body while strengthening my own leadership skills,” he
says.
Peter was proud of the executive board of students who worked with
him. “I
was very fortunate to work alongside an energetic and enthusiastic executive
board,” he says. “[We] worked diligently to improve the relationship
between senators and their constituents as well as addressing issues of free
speech, civil dialog and sexual violence. Working as a member of Thelmo
was a dynamic and challenging experience because of the
breadth of issues that can arise at any moment. My time in Thelmo
was a powerful force in shaping my St. Lawrence career.”
Another powerful influence on Peter’s SLU experience has been
the career internship opportunity he had the summer before his
senior year. He worked for Goldman Sachs in New York City; as a result
of that great preparation, he was offered a fulltime position
at Morgan Stanley after graduating with a degree in economics and
minors in speech and theatre as well as French. Along
the way, Peter has been a member of the Gospel Choir, Chapel Planning
Committee, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership
honorary and a Community Assistant.
