Seager Philpot '07

For Saeger Philpot ’07, it was the incredible enthusiasm of alumni that made her decide to come to St. Lawrence. “I was introduced to St. Lawrence by my dorm parent at Kimball Union Academy, Melissa Henrichon Fellows ’01,” she says.  “Melissa knew St. Lawrence would be the perfect place for me because it would allow me to pursue all of my interests.”

Saeger, who is a performance and communication arts major and a film studies minor, has most enjoyed playing field hockey for St. Lawrence.  She explains, “Playing at the NCAA Division III level has allowed me to continue my athletic career and afforded me the opportunity to look into my other interests.”

What Saeger, who is captain of the field hockey team, finds most valuable about her athletic experience is what she has learned from others and about herself.  “Field hockey has taught me to be dedicated to my team, and my academics,” she says.  “My coach has pushed me to succeed both in and out of the classroom and to strive for perfection in everything that I do.  Because of field hockey, I have learned discipline, leadership, team work and ultimately what it means to be committed to something larger than yourself.”

She has also been working in the admissions office since her sophomore year. “I love meeting prospective students and sharing my experience about St. Lawrence with them,” Saeger says.  “Through working in admissions, I’ve learned St. Lawrence will go the distance for its students to ensure they are having the most positive college experience possible--the people who work here are truly remarkable.”

Saeger, who is from Gilmanton, N.H., found time to take part in St. Lawrence’s London Program in spring 2006.  “Coming from a small town, I wanted to experience what life was like in a big city, and London was the perfect opportunity,” she says. “Living with a host family and my internship with Nickelodeon U.K. enabled me to become completely immersed in their culture.”
