As Class of 2008 president for the past two years, Amanda Ouellette is no rookie at leading her peers. In fact, some would say she’s an expert.
Ouellette, a
psychology major and
education minor from Danville, Vt., has been involved in Class Council since her sophomore year, when she was nominated to be class treasurer. The Danville School graduate says, “I want to be able to help our class develop an identity.
I want to make sure that everyone knows the person they’re sitting next to at graduation.”
But Class Council has made that goal challenging for Ouellette. This year’s senior class is working with about half the budget of previous classes due to cuts made by the student government body, the
Thelomathesian Society.
Each semester, the senior class is supposed to put on a variety of events to get seniors excited about graduation by getting to know one another. Luckily, Ouellette knows that having a positive attitude makes all the difference. She said, “Even though it’s hard to keep such a diverse group of people happy on such a small budget, I think people have been and will continue to be very pleased with what our senior class has to offer this year.”
One of the major roles that Ouellette has is directing the Senior Week planning committee. Senior Week is the week between final exams week and graduation, when seniors are for all intents and purposes the only students on campus.
Ouellette said, “I am looking forward to Senior Week going off without a hitch. Planning is going really well and we’re thinking of some creative ideas to make it a great last chance to spend top-quality time with friends!”
