“Once I discovered there was no place like St. Lawrence, I knew I had to come here,”says Erin Mellow ’07. She hadn’t wanted to follow older sister Meagan ’04 to St. Lawrence, and “tried to find St. Lawrence in another school,” she says.
Erin, a
mathematics and
psychology double major and
African studies minor from Grantham, NH, and Lebanon (NH) High School, played on the
field hockey team for four years and was captain this past season. “Each player is determined and motivated on and off the field,” Erin explains, and she’s no exception. Erin was named
Omicron Delta Kappa’s Sophomore of the Year and was inducted into the leadership honorary in 2005. She was also inducted into both the mathematics and psychology honoraries, and named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
At the beginning of her sophomore year, Erin became a member of
Kappa Delta Sigma (KDS) sorority. “I wanted to meet other people on campus,” she explains. “Through my experiences with KDS, I have learned more about myself and who I want to be when I leave St. Lawrence. I have also learned that
St. Lawrence is a multi-faceted university and exposes its students to many different opportunities.”
Erin gets the chance to share her love for St. Lawrence often as an
admissions tour guide. “I know what it was like visiting colleges and not know what to look for. I want to assist prospective students in making the right decision for themselves,” she says.
In the spring of 2006, Erin studied on St. Lawrence’s program in
Kenya. She says, “
I became much more independent; I learned that I can take care of myself in a country where most people don’t speak English. I also learned that if someone has different beliefs from me, they aren’t wrong.”
