Student Profiles
Renee Hilbrunner ’12

Renee Hilbrunner ’12 knows what it means to make the most of a liberal arts education.  From athletics to campus journalism and various endeavors in between, she has taken advantage of many academic and extracurricular opportunities at SLU.

The Groton, MA, native and Groton-Dunstable Regional High School graduate quickly made a name for herself as a productive member of the St. Lawrence women’s soccer team. She played through her sophomore year until a back injury forced her to retire. Renee manages to stay involved in athletics through her job at the athletics center.

As the former co-editor-in-chief for the student-run newspaper, Renee says that her time spent on staff taught her valuable and transferable skills such as learning to manage and work effectively with different kinds of people.  Renee’s positive influence on campus continues thanks to her involvement in student governmentand her position as assistant treasurer for Kappa Delta Sigma sorority.

An English major and economics minor, Renee identifies Creative Non-Fiction Writing with Professor Bob Cowser as her favorite class. “I not only learned about the art of non-fiction writing, but also learned a lot about myself as a person along the way,” she says. Originally intending to pursue pre-dentistry, Renee is the quintessential example of how a liberal arts education exposes one to a range of academic opportunities and personal discoveries.

Though St. Lawrence proudly boasts many notable traditions, Renee said that it is something deeper which makes this place unique.  “I enjoy the tight-knit community atmosphere we live in every day. The SLU community is broad, extending to alumni and family members all over the United States, which is something I am proud to be a part of,” she says.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Renee says she plans on pursuing a career in corporate law in Boston, MA.
