Katie Gay '06
Katie Gay ’06, Malone, NY, has all the write
stuff. And her future students (she’s studying to be
an English teacher) will have the best possible role model.
Katie designed her own major in multicultural literature,
and has a minor in education. On campus she’s been poetry
editor for The Laurentian, the student literary magazine,
and copy editor for The Hill News, the weekly student newspaper.
She’s been active as a tutor at the Writing Center as
well as for the First-Year Writing Program and the Reading and Math
programs. Recognizing her campus literary leadership, Katie is a
member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the leadership honorary society.
The summer before her senior year, Katie took on a special
project related to St. Lawrence’s 150th anniversary. She
researched and wrote a booklet that explores the influence of the
North Country heritage and values on the development of the University.
“I would have to say that receiving a University Fellowship to conduct research both in
Canton and in Cambridge, MA was an incredible opportunity,” she
comments. “In addition, it was great to really learn more about
St. Lawrence and the North Country since my family is from this region.”
