For Chris Farden ’07, it was the small atmosphere and friendly faces that brought him to St. Lawrence.
Chris, an
economics major and
music minor, fondly recalls his first days at St. Lawrence. One of his most memorable experiences was with his
First-Year Program course, Coldest Cold War Flicks. “I really liked the people in my first-year program,” he says.
“I liked them so much that I’m living with two of them this year!”
Chris’ visit as a prospective student played an integral role in his decision to attend St. Lawrence, and by second semester of his first year, he knew he wanted to share that experience and his current experiences with prospective students.
He began working in admissions as a tour guide, and is now part of the steering committee, which runs the training for new tour guides.
He is involved with the Newman Club, an organization that aims at providing an enjoyable environment for personal, spiritual and social growth rooted in the Catholic tradition and is open to St. Lawrence students.
He helps staff meals for the community and various other events. “
Volunteering gets you involved in Canton, not just the campus community,” he says. Chris has also been a lector, reading at both Gunnison Memorial Chapel and St. Mary’s Church in Canton, and also serves as a Eucharist minister.
On top of all this, Chris still finds time to express his creative side and jam out with his band, “Hollywood Farm,” which has played both on and off campus. A saxophone player since the fourth grade,
Chris has been a part of various music ensembles at St. Lawrence, playing blues, jazz and soul music. “I love music and hope to continue on with it,” he says. “I always want music to be a part of my life.”
