Student Profiles
Marc Delaney ’13

“It was easy to see myself at St. Lawrence when I visited,” says Marc Delaney ’13, of Clayton, NY. “Walking through Johnson Hall of Science, studying at the library and eating at Dana Dining Hall all seemed natural.”

Before the Thousand Islands High School graduate arrived on campus for his first year, he had already been accepted by Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, as the first student to be accepted by St. Lawrence’s Rural Medicine Program. Marc is looking forward to being a part of the Class of 2017 at Upstate Medical and plans to specialize in cardiology, intensive care or general practice. He is a biochemistry major and Spanish minor.

Marc has utilized his passion for the world of medicine by starting the Pre-Health Club, with other SLU pre-med students, and is co-president of the organization. The original goal was to exercise the interests and facilitate the needs of pre-med students. The club raised over $1,000 for earthquake relief in Haiti, as a part of an effort by Partners in Health.

Marc is also involved with the on-campus Environmental Action Organization, SLU Scuba and Diving and the American Chemical Society.

Marc enjoyed the chance to conduct independent research even in his first year. In General Biology he designed and carried out a research project, with a faculty mentor, that “was a ton of fun.  It was awesome to get my feet wet in research in only my first year here,” says Marc.
