St. Lawrence holds its students to high academic
standards and an extraordinary level of personal excellence. Classes
are taught by dedicated professors, who, while being prominent authorities
in their fields of study, place teaching above research. The knowledge
gained from an academically rigorous curriculum is more often than
not combined with amazing opportunities for study
abroad, internships, athletics,
service, and leadership.
This St. Lawrence experience has generated accomplished
graduates who have gone on to be presidents of major corporations,
well-known lawyers, expert scientists and medical specialists, sought
after teachers and academic officials, professional athletes, distinguished
authors and poets, renowned artists, famous actors, and eminent political
players, including a U.S. Ambassador, a U.S. Senator, and a considered
candidate for President of the United States. With such a list of
alumni, I believe that if you apply yourself while at St. Lawrence,
anything is possible for a Laurentian graduate.
As St. Lawrence University celebrates its 150th
anniversary, I can think of no better way of defining the student
body than by its history and traditions. The success of our past is
not even comparable to the potential of our future. After two years
at St. Lawrence, I am proud to be among a group of peers that are
not only committed to taking on the challenge of college but are prepared
for dealing with the complexities of the world. As students of the
21st century, thinking outside of the box is crucial to meeting the
expectations of tomorrow. Therefore, I am gratified by the academic
atmosphere established at St. Lawrence. Our views and beliefs are
constantly tested by the diversity of ideas at the university, teaching
the importance of an open mind. This candid dialogue and the consequent
fair judgments formed have created an environment where innovative
ideas can emerge.
St. Lawrence students acknowledge the difficulties that await them
in life. However, we are not intimidated. We welcome these responsibilities.
We have confidence that the success of our university history illustrates
the promise of our abilities in the years to come. Here at St. Lawrence
University, we are given the chance to achieve greatness. The student
body is eager to live up to that goal and assured that anyone given
such a chance can truly change the world.
