Katie Alexander ’08 knew St. Lawrence was the place for her from the moment she set foot on campus.
“It’s a small, liberal arts school where the faculty genuinely care about your entire well-being, not just academics,” she says.
The North Tonawanda, N.Y., resident and North Tonawanda High School graduate is involved in several groups on campus, but the two that mean the most to her are the
women’s swim team and
Kappa Delta Sigma (KDS), her sorority. “Both have introduced me to a wide variety of people who are now my SLU family,” she says. “They are my support system at school and have helped me grow as an individual.”
Katie is also one of this year’s student delegates to the
Alumni Council and has been a new-student
orientation leader for three years. “Both have taught me so much about the University and have made me proud to be a Saint,” she says.
Katie also praises the academic programs at St. Lawrence. When asked what has been the best part of her St. Lawrence academic experience, Katie responded with something unexpected: the mandatory course distributions required for graduation. “The
distribution requirements gave me the opportunity to take classes I would have never taken on my own accord, and I have learned more than I thought I would from them,” she explains. “One class,
psychology, turned into one of my majors!” The other half of her double major is
government.
After graduation, Katie hopes to attend law school.
