Christopher “Woody” Parker ’09, Kansas City, MO, says he needs a lot going on in his life. He’s achieved that at St. Lawrence. In addition to balancing his
sociology major and
European studies minor, Parker is a student delegate to the
Alumni Council and an
advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT-CC). He’s also a member of
SLU Democrats.
As a student delegate to the council, Parker has an insider’s perspective that he shares with an enthusiastic group of alumni. “As more and more ‘things’ affect students, I want to make the Alumni Council aware,” said Parker. “After all, if we don't tell people what's happening on campus, how will they know what we want? The opportunity to meet some very successful,
motivated people who eat, sleep, breathe and bleed Scarlet and Brown has been great,” exclaimed Parker.
In order for Parker to become an AEMT-CC he had to undergo rigorous training and obtain his Advanced Life Support certification, which grants him status similar to that of a paramedic. He has worked steadily since his first year at St. Lawrence to increase his level of training. He started as a nationally registered First Responder, then became an EMT-Basic, and then went through his AEMT-CC training. Currently, Parker is training as a Firefighter.
“
I love the rush of getting called to an emergency and being able to help someone in their time of need,” said Parker. “There is nothing more satisfying than being able to calm someone and care for their injury.”
After Parker graduates next spring
he hopes to attend medical school while continuing to participate in
hockey,
hiking and
golf. Parker graduated from The Pembroke Hill School in 2005.
