Student Life Profiles
Emily Howe McDonnell ’01

“When I was a student I had no idea I would one day be a North Country resident!” exclaims Emily Howe McDonnell ’01. In 2005, McDonnell, originally from Cornish, Me., returned to her alma mater with husband Dan McDonnell ’00.  After completing a graduate program in school counseling, she took the position of assistant director of career services in 2006.

“There is a strong sense of community among the faculty, staff and students and there is always something new and interesting happening on campus,” she explained. “Canton is a great place to live and St. Lawrence is a great place to work.”

McDonnell says her job entails helping students find and apply for internships, as well as communicating with the employers and alumni who offer internship positions to current students.  She says she also spends much of her time “individually advising students and presenting informational programs and workshops.”

McDonnell was a government major and spent a semester on St. Lawrence’s program in London.  She graduated with honors and was actively involved with the Thelomathesian Society and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.  Before returning to Canton, McDonnell worked in Chicago and Jackson Hole, WY.
