Steffi Chappell ’10 is taking the time now to help her down the road. The Somersworth, NH, native, double majoring in fine arts and performance and communications arts, is secretary of the Thelomathesian Society (or “Thelmo,” St. Lawrence’s student government). Since joining Thelmo, she has also been the Elections chair, responsible for running elections for student delegate to the Board of Trustees and the Class Council elections. She also served as a Senator for a semester and is in charge of Thelmo storage.
Steffi, a graduate of Somersworth High School, says she participated in student government in high school, and enjoyed the experience, so thought she’d give it a try in college. She adds that she’s ended up really enjoying it.
“Being a part of Thelmo has let me meet a lot of new people, and be involved with activities and concerns that I might otherwise know nothing about,” Steffi says.
She is unsure of what she plans to do post-graduation, but thinks that whatever path she chooses, her Thelmo experience will be beneficial.
“In being a part of Thelmo I’ve had to interact with all sorts of different people, deal with conflicts, and give my opinion on certain matters in a diplomatic way,” Steffi says. “I definitely think those three things come up in everyday life all the time.”
