Student Life Profiles
Jasper Burch '08

Jasper Burch came to St. Lawrence wanting to get involved in as many activities and organizations as he could. He has done just that, participating in Greek life, First-Year Council, student government, and now as president of the student government organization.

As president, Jasper hopes to take the student body forward with an emphasis on academics and student-led initiatives. “The main goal of my administration is to represent the student voice accurately and to fight for what is best for all students,” he says. He also believes in the importance of maintaining environmentally sustainable living on campus, adding that he is interested in installing a wind turbine at St. Lawrence to help generate power.

When Jasper decided to come to St. Lawrence from Concord, Mass., the Concord-Carlisle Region High School graduate was struck by the “tight-knit and friendly community in which students work closely with faculty.” This atmosphere allowed him to start his own organization, the Math Club, in which he is able to integrate one of his majors, mathematics (the other is economics) with student life opportunities. Jasper says that “my involvement with students and faculty gives me the desire to serve the community through pursuit of goals that meet the needs of my peers as well as others on campus.”

Jasper sees St. Lawrence as a place where students may use resources to help improve their world. “I have found that the goodness of the St. Lawrence community allows me to accomplish many things on campus, he says. “Any idea or dream which improves the wellbeing of people here can find support across campus.”
