Shannon Boynton ’06 is an intermediary between students and administrators. She works to make sure that the students’ voices are heard.
As a residential coordinator, her main focus is supervising the 18 student community assistants (CAs) and helping them be successful working with students in campus residences, as she did as a student. She also manages Sykes and Dean-Eaton residential buildings and acts as a resource for the students who live in them.
One of her initiatives has been working to establish the Theme Cottage and Greek Council to promote a better flow of communication with the cottages and on-campus Greek houses. “I was a member of Kappa Delta Sigma sorority as a student and noticed that although the Greeks had a way to communicate among each other, the theme cottages did not,” she said. “This council has not only created better communication among each of the cottages and Greek houses surrounding the University, but also created a better flow of communication between the houses and the residence staff.
“It’s been rewarding to get to know St. Lawrence as a staff member and be able to work with students to make their St. Lawrence experience as beneficial and enjoyable as mine was,” Shannon said. She added, “I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to give back to St. Lawrence in a way that will benefit future Laurentians.”
“The people that I have had the chance to interact with, including students, staff and faculty, have been the most enjoyable aspect of my job,” she said.
A biology and music double major as a student, Shannon was in the Dance Ensemble, played intramural Ultimate Frisbee and was a member of the crew team. She enjoys running, reading, visiting with friends, and exploring the North Country and surrounding area. She is a member of the University Chorus and is interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.
