Sondra Goldsmith Proctor
Welcome to the Chapel! I am Sondra Goldsmith Proctor, Musician-in-Residence. I provide music for University functions, for special services and events in the chapel, for the Noon in the Chapel series of concerts, and for weddings and funerals. Before 2008 when I joined the chapel staff, I was based in Washington, D.C. I have taught choruses and applied music in junior high and high schools, universities, and graduate schools. In addition, I served as Conductor-in-Residence for The American University. As an organist I have been fortunate to study and perform throughout the East Coast, Europe, and the Caribbean. I served as Director of Music and Arts for Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ for almost thirty years. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts was the base for two groups for which I served as Associate Director and Keyboard Artist. Circle Singers, a vocal chamber ensemble which I founded and conducted, based in the DC Metro area, sang together for twenty-five years. The size of the group ranged from 5-24 depending upon the repertoire.
Presently, in addition to providing organ music for the major events on campus, I direct Ad Hoc Singers, a chamber ensemble based in the chapel, and the St. Lawrence University Children’s Chorus.
If I am practicing, come listen. If there is a performance, come listen. If there is silence in the chapel, you are welcome to revel in the quiet.
