Donald Sutherland Residency ending with the Johann Sebastian Bach Marathon
The Third Johann Sebastian Bach Marathon will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel. Organists, University Presidents, a pianist, and chamber musicians will present some of the most outstanding compositions by Bach.
In addition under the auspices of the Arts Collaborative Committee, Donald S. Sutherland, recitalist, clinician, adjudicator, and professor of organ, will be in residence on Thursday, March 22, and Friday, March 23. In addition to working with students in several disciplines (art, music, philosophy, language), he will present an open Lecture/Recital on Friday evening, March 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. Using as the basis for the demonstration the Orgelbüchlein (the little organ book) of Johann Sebastian Bach, he will help us all open our ears to new ways of hearing Bach and the organ. Currently, Mr. Sutherland serves as Coordinator of Organ at Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. Trained in the studio of Arthur Poister at Syracuse University, he taught at Syracuse University before accepting a major church position at Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in the Washington, DC area.
