Telephones, Fax Machines, Copiers and Mail Services

Each residence hall is equipped with telephone jacks so that students may place and receive calls in their dorm room.  Emergency access to security and health service, free voice mail, free unlimited campus calls, free local and toll-free calls, as well as receipt of inbound local and long distance calls are available for all students.  Students need to provide a telephone of their choice.  Various types of cordless phones can cause usage problems and we recommend the use of a standard, corded telephone.  Touchtone telephones have been installed in lobbies and other places of convenience around campus.
Long distance calling from the campus will require calling cards (with toll-free access) or a local/toll-free service (such as MobileSphere) of the student’s choice.  St. Lawrence university has partnered with MobileSphere, a pre-paid long distance and international service that provides excellent rates with the convenience of adding funds over the web for minutes that can be used on-campus, off-campus and even on cell phones!

Faxes:  The Brewer Bookstore provides outbound fax services for a fee for students and staff.  Students may receive free inbound faxes at the Mail Center located in the basement of the new student center.  Students wishing to receive such faxes would provide the sender with the fax number 315.229.5515; cover pages must contain the student name and CMR # and these will be inserted into the campus mailbox.

Copiers: Students photo ID cards are encoded so that they may be used on copiers located throughout the campus.  (If a student is issued a replacement student photo ID, that card will need re-encoding at the Duplicating Center in Vilas Hall, Room G5).  Each student is given 125 free copies each semester; students who exceed this number of copies will incur charges at $.08 a copy which will be added to their tuition account at the conclusion of the semester.

Mail Services: Each student has a private combination mailbox in the Mail Center located on the lower level of the new student center.  This mailbox is maintained throughout the student’s continuous time at St. Lawrence.  Mail and parcels should be addressed as follows:  (Your) Name, (Your) CMR #, St. Lawrence University, 23 Romoda Drive, Canton NY  13617-1455.  Stamps are available through an ATM machine located outside of the Mail Center.  The campus mail center is a facility to dispense mail and parcels to students of St. Lawrence University.  We are not agents of any carriers and cannot guarantee delivery of outbound parcels.  If a parcel is valuable or irreplaceable, you should work directly with a carrier or agent of your choice.
