Recycling Policy

The village of Canton enforces a mandatory recycling ordinance.  As part of the village community, St. Lawrence University participates in this program.  The ordinance requires students to separate recyclable material.  Containers for recycled material are located throughout residence halls.  All trash must be disposed of in clear plastic bags.
The following list indicates material which must be sorted and recycled.
• Paper—all dry paper, books, magazines.
• Cardboard—dry (boxes must be flattened).
• Metal—cans, bottle caps, and other metal.
• Glass—all colors (caps must be removed).
• All hard plastics—i.e., shampoo bottles & laundry detergent (rinsed).

 Questions about recycling should be referred to the Recycling Coordinator or to Facilities Operations.
