Grades - Changing a Grade and Grading System
Grade, Changing A
Changes of grade are expected only under the following
circumstances:
1. Conversion of
a temporary grade (E, X) to a permanent one (4.0, 3.75, 3.5, 3.25,
3.0, 2.75, 2.5, 2.25, 2.0, 1.75, 1.5, 1.25, 1.0, 0.0). Such grades may be converted
at any time, subject to deadlines required by academic policies.
2. Rectification
of an error in grading. Forms are available in departmental offices
or from the registrar. The signature of the instructor and department
chairperson is required. Such changes may be reviewed by the
dean of academic affairs.
3. In cases where
a student disputes the reasonableness of a grade in course, the proper
person to address is the instructor. If the student believes
the matter needs to be pursued further, the proper person to address
is the department chairperson. If
the student feels he/she must pursue the matter still further, then
recourse is through the Academic Conflict Resolution Procedures (see
Student Code section of this handbook).
Grading System
The present grading system employs fourteen (14) grading distinctions and seven (7) letter grades.
