Student Activities
St. Lawrence maintains
a diverse program of co-curricular activities. Facilities in
support of these activities are available, and professional staff
assist students as advisors and coaches. Listed below are many
of the more than 90 organizations and activities available to students.

A.C.E. (Association for Campus Entertainment) – A.C.E.
brings a wide variety of entertainment to the campus community including
lectures, concerts, comedians, film festivals, Student Center and Java
Barn programming, and any type of performance that captures the imagination
of students.
Advocates – A group of faculty, staff and
students who are trained to respond to incidents of sexual assault
on campus. Advocates serve as a support system, providing options
and informing students of campus and local resources.
African Student Union –Educates the St. Lawrence community about Africa in terms of the people, the history and the culture.
A.L.M.A. (Latino Multicultural Alliance) – Sponsors
events to educate the campus about Latinos and Latin American culture,
customs and traditions.
Amnesty International – An international human
rights organization that monitors and protests human rights violations
through letter writing, open discussion of issues, and other peaceful
public campaigns.
Anthropology Club – explores the study of
Anthropology outside the classroom atmosphere, with the use of films,
guest speakers and field trips.
Black Cultural Center – Educates
the SLU community about black culture and sheds light on issues that
affect women, particularly black women.
Black Student Union – The BSU seeks to foster
community, culture, and spirit by sponsoring speakers, plays, and
other events that educate and uplift not only students of color,
but all students.
Circle-K – A community service organization
present at many colleges and universities nationwide. The Circle
K at SLU emphasizes leadership and friendship through community service
projects and being actively involved in the community.
Crown Royalties Investment Club – Aimed at
students interested in careers on Wall Street and consulting firms. Teaches
a student about investing and personal finance.
Cycling Saints – Provides training and racing
opportunities on a collegiate level, with clinics on riding skills
and bike maintenance.
Dance Ensemble – A student-run dance ensemble
performing various types of dance including opportunities for choreographing
and performing in the end of the semester showcases.
Democracy Matters – Raises awareness on campus
and in the local community about Campaign Finance Reform, clean elections,
and getting private money out of public politics.
Environmental Action Organization – Aims to
increase campus awareness of current, local, national, and international
environmental issues while fostering appropriate and effective actions.
First Peoples' Student Alliance – Educates the community about the issues and cultures of First Peoples of North America and around the world.

Geology Club – Provides interested students an opportunity
to broaden their knowledge and experience with lectures and field trips.
Global Awareness – Raises awareness of poverty and other
important global issues, with a focus on the Heifer Project. Sponsor
speakers to discuss local and international issues and participate in volunteer
opportunities.
Gridiron – St. Lawrence’s campus yearbook is
rich in tradition. Students with an interest in creative ideas, planning,
and designing as well as creative writing and photography will find this organization
particularly rewarding.
Habitat for Humanity – Raises awareness of the national
organization and helps provide safe and adequate housing for North Country
residents in need through building new houses and repairing existing homes.
Hill News – St. Lawrence University’s student
newspaper since 1911, offers news, opinion, arts & entertainment, features
and sports sections. The Hill News is published every Friday of the academic
year and circulates among 2600 readers including students, faculty, staff,
and subscribers. Students write, edit, and layout this weekly publication.
Hockey Club – Provides students an opportunity to play
ice hockey.
International House – Provides a receptive and stimulating
atmosphere for all students who have experienced another culture. I-House
programs are dedicated to enhancing cultural understanding and to exploring
differences and similarities in a friendly and open environment.
Intervarsity Christian Fellowship – Provides fellowship
and an evangelical environment for people to worship Jesus, pray, study the
Bible, and encourage those around them.
Isshinryu Karate Club – Isshinryu Karate is a traditional
martial art that develops a student’s mind, body, and spirit while having
fun and meeting people.
Jewish Student Union – An organization for any SLU student,
Jewish or not, who is interested in learning, sharing, and experiencing Jewish
food, cultural history, politics, holidays, language, art, literature and social
events.
KSLU – KSLU’s predecessor, WCAD, was the first
college radio station in the country. KSLU strives to bring new music
to campus through radio and live shows with DJs. KSLU is on the air on
frequency 90.5FM.
Laurentian Literary Magazine – The Laurentian is a student-run
literary magazine that publishes the best fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and
artwork produced by the SLU student body.
Laurentian Singers – An a cappella choir of about fifty
select voices. Auditions are held by the University choral director at
the beginning of the school year and are open to all undergraduates. In
addition to numerous campus appearances, the Laurentian Singers annually go
on a concert tour.
Newman Club – Provides a fun environment for personal,
spiritual and social growth rooted in Catholic faith and open to all members
of the college community.
Nordic Ski Club – Provides opportunities to students
and faculty to learn how to and to pursue their recreational and competitive
interests in Nordic Skiing.
Omicron Delta Kappa – ODK is a national leadership honorary
that recognizes upperclassmen who are successful in academics, athletics, community
and campus service, the performing arts and journalism. The members of
ODK strive to promote leadership on campus.
Outing Club – The second oldest outing club in the country,
SLU’s Outing Club has a long standing tradition of providing outdoor
activities for the community such as Peak Weekend, Snowbowl Extravaganza, backpacking,
canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and x-c skiing.
Panhellenic Council – Panhel acts as the governing body
for the sororities at SLU and serves as a liaison between sororities and the
campus community.
Photo Club – Encourages students to participate in many
different aspects of photography.
P.R.I.D.E.S. (People Recognizing Individuality, Diversity, and Equality
of Sexuality) – A political as well as social group committed
to combating homophobia and providing a forum for open discussion.
Rugby- Men’s – After recently
winning the NYS Div III State Championships and moving up a division, this
group provides athletes the opportunity to play competitive rugby and learn
more about the sport.
Rugby – Women’s – Allows
women to participate in a full contact, intense sport whose rules do not differ
from those of the men’s team.
S.A.B.H.A. (South Asia Bollywood and Holiday Assoc.) – An
open forum for students, faculty, and staff to explore aspects of, but not
limited to, South Asian languages, cultures, religions, and politics.
Singing Saints – The Saints spread their love of a cappella
music to others through concerts on and off campus, including trips to colleges
and alumni functions throughout the northeast.
Singing Sinners – An all women’s a cappella group
who sing at various events.
SLU ACT – A service organization - college students
gathered together in an organization based on fraternalism and founded on the
principles of leadership, friendship and service.
SLU Buddies – pairs local children with St. Lawrence students to act as a mentor and friend.
SLU Democrats – National organization that seeks to
promote the ideas of the Democratic Party on the college campus.
SLU Model United Nations – Participates in Model UN
conferences nationally and internationally and helps raise awareness of world
issues on the SLU campus.
SLU Republicans – Organization that seeks to promote
the ideas of the Republican Party on the college campus.
Society of Physics Students – A national society open
to anyone with an interest in Physics. Our local society plans physics-related
field trips and helps the department bring speakers.
Student Art Union – Provides artistic outlets and opportunities
for students through workshops, field trips, art shows, and by brining in off-campus
artists.
Student Judiciary Board – J-Board is the student disciplinary
board on campus, which hears complaints involving violations of the Student
Code of Responsibility and assigns appropriate sanctions.
Student Safety Team – Provides both emergency medical
and safety response for students and staff by student First Responders/EMT’s,
student night patrols and safe walks, as well as non-emergency transport to
medical facilities.
The Stump – A student magazine written for and by students
addressing on and off campus issues – no concrete format provides an
open forum for the free exchange of ideas among the SLU campus and community. Take
a stand. Get on The Stump.
Thelomathesian Society – Known as Thelmo, SLU’s
student self-governing body. Representatives to the Senate, the governing
body of the Society, are elected annually and open to any University undergraduate
student. Thelmo’s objective is to act as liaison between students,
faculty, and the administration on issues of importance to student life.
Women’s Action Group – Promotes women’s
issues on campus and raises awareness about local and global women’s
issues.
Women’s Resource Center – Educates
the campus and local community about equality, especially those pertaining
to women’s issues, and also provides a safe space for women to
share ideas, knowledge and experiences.
