PIRINELLI WINS SHOT, DISCUS; PAVLUS IS STEEPLE CHAMP AS SAINTS 3RD AT NYSCTC

May 3: Alyssa Pirinelli was a double champion on Saturday as the St. Lawrence University women’s track and field team finished third in a 14-team field at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Outdoor Championships held at the University of Rochester.

 

Brockport swept the outdoor titles, winning the women’s meet with 139.5 points with Rochester second with 125, SLU third with 94 and Geneseo fourth with 84 as 14 teams scored in the meet.

 

Pirinelli, who had two wins and a third in three events, was named the Field Performer of the Meet while Wendy

Alyssa Pirinelli was named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week for the fifth consecutive week in the spring season and 13th time overall this season and Wendy Pavlus was named Rookie of the Week for the fifth time in the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Pavlus, who had a win and a fourth place finish on Saturday shared the Runner of the Meet award.

 

Pirinelli won the shot put with a NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 13.11 meters (43-0.25) and also won the discus with a throw of 37.00 (121-05). The Saint sophomore, who finished third in the hammer on Friday, has now won four straight NYSCTC titles in the shot put and five titles overall in her first two seasons.

 

Pavlus was the other Saint champion on Saturday as she won the 3000 meter steeplechase in 11:03.36 and came back at the end of the day to finish fourth in 18:33.56 in the 5000 meters

 

Other top finishes for the Saint women on Saturday included a fourth by Jessica Venezia with a 10.96 (35-11.5) triple jump, a fifth in 2:20.51 in the 800 by Alexis Nuffer and a third in the discus by Lisa Baron, who threw 35.67.

Chelsea McKenzie scored with a seventh place finish in the 1500 meters, running 4:53.03 while Elizabeth Atwood earned points in the 800 with a seventh place finish in 2:25.87 and Lauren Chrapowitzky scored in the discus with an eighth place finish as the Saints earned 17 points in that event.

 

The Saint 4x100 relay team of Lindsey Taylor, Beth Muller, Venezia and Whitney Koch scored with an eighth place finish in 51.59 and the 4x400 relay of Taylor, Nuffer, Atwood and Muller finished fifth in 4:06.24.

 

Pirinelli threw 46.11, an NCAA provisional mark to finish third in the hammer and the team of Meghan Moore, Elizabeth Atwood, Chelsea McKenzie and Alexis Nuffer ran 9:31.67 in the 4x800 to post the top finishes for the Saints on Friday.

 

Hillary St. John also scored for the Saints with a sixth place finish in the 10,000 meters in 41:42.57.

Jessica Venezia finished seventh with a 4.95 meter jump and Whitney Koch was 10 th with a 4.67 meter mark in the long jump while Carleigh Fedorka was third with a 35.91 meter throw and Phylicia Martel scored with a seventh place finish at 30.60 meters in the javelin. Maia Moyer finished 11 th in the javelin with a 25.93 meter throw.

 

Both Moyer and Meaghan White just missed qualifying for the 100 meter hurdle finals as they tied for 10 th in 16.51 seconds and the top nine advanced.
