SAINTS SWEEP THROWS, HAVE 5 CHAMPIONS AT HAMILTON INVITATIONAL

April 19: St. Lawrence University’s women’s track and field team swept the championships in the throwing events and had five champions overall in addition to 18 other top-four finishes at the non-scoring Hamilton Invitational on a warm and sunny day in Clinton on Saturday.

Alyssa Pirinelli was named Liberty League Field Athlete of the Week for the third straight week and the 11th time between the indoor and outdoor seasons and Jessica Venezia was Liberty League co-Rookie of the Week, her second straight award and seventh Rookie of the Week award this season.

 

Pirinelli, Venezia, Wendy Pavlus, Carleigh Fedorka and a 4x400 relay team will compete in the Penn Relays on Wednesday.

She finished second to senior teammate Lauren Chrapowitzky in the discus as Chrapowitzky threw 36.67 meters to win that event. Senior Carleigh Fedorka completed the sweep in the throws with a win in the javelin with a 34.77 meter mark. Holly Irion was third in the hammer with a 41.44 meter throw and was fifth in the discus while Chrapowitzky was fourth in the hammer, Meaghan White was fifth in the shot and Phylicia Martel finished third in the javelin.

 

The other Saint champion on Saturday was sophomore Alexis Nuffer, who won the 800 in 2:20.61.

 

Jessica Venezia took second in both the long jump with a 4.74 meter mark and the triple jump at 10.84 meters while Megan Derby was second and Sarah Mills was third in the high jump with Derby clearing 1.52 meters.

 

Other top five performances for the Saints included a second by Lindsey Bisaccio in the 5000 meters, third place finishes by Beth Muller in the 100 and 200, by Meaghan Moore in the 800 and by Stacy Lowell in the pole vault. White was fourth in the 100 hurdles, Libby Fellows was fourth in the 400, Whitney Koch fourth in the long jump, and Emily Bean in the pole vault in addition to a fourth place finish by the 4x100 relay team. Hillary St. John was fifth in the steeplechase and Chelsea McKenzie was fifth in the 1500.

 

The Saint team will participate in the Penn Relays Wednesday and will run at Rochester on Saturday in meets this week.
