SAINT RECORDS TUMBLE AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mar. 7: Sophomore Alyssa Pirinelli and first year athletes Wendy Pavlus and Jessica Venezia all improved their own St. Lawrence records in their events on Friday and the Saint women went on to finish 11th of 50 teams scoring in the two day event.

Pirinelli and Pavlus were day one champions for the Saints as Pirinelli won her second straight ECAC indoor shot put title and Pavlus won the 5000 meters. Pirinelli’s throw of 14.20 meters (46-7.25) is an NCAA automatic qualifying distance and .13 meters beyond her previous SLU record. Pavlus was just 10 seconds off NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 5000 and improved her own record by nearly 17 seconds in the event, finishing in 17:16.058, leading a 24-runner field.

Venezia finished fourth in the triple jump with a 11.56 meter (37-11.25) series which is .16 of a meter better than her previous mark and improves her NCAA provisional status.

Other Friday finishes included a 20 th in the 55 meters by first year Beth Muller.

The Saint Distance Medley Relay team finished ninth in 12:58.47 and the 4x220 yard relay team was 16 th in 1:50.80.

Pirinelli scored in the weight throw with a 14.86 meter throw, good for sixth place on Saturday while the Saints also picked up points in the 4x880 yard relay, with a team of Chelsea McKenzie, Elizabeth Atwood, Alexis Nuffer and Pavlus running 9:49.13.

Other Saturday finishes for the Saints included a ninth in the 800 in 2:19.53 by McKenzie with Nuffer 12th in 2:22.37; a 10th by Taylor in the 500 in 1:19.98 and a 16th by the 4x440 relay team. Katrina Loignon was 24th in the 1000 meters, Atwood was 25th in the 500, Holly Irion was 22nd in the weight and Lauren Chrapowitzky finished 29th in the weight.
