MOULIN, NIGH EARN NYSWCAA ALL-STATE HONORS

Apr. 28: The NYSWCAA announced its All-State Tennis team Wednesday. Freshman Anne Moulin earned Singles Honorable Mention honors. Moulin finished the season with an 18-6 overall record. The Lexington, Mass. native was 5-0 at #2, 5-1 at #3 and 2-2 at #2. In tournament play, Moulin was 7-3.

Moulin played doubles with senior Johnna Nigh this fall and the duo earned Doubles Honorable Mention honors. Nigh/Moulin finished the fall with a 10-6 overall, including an 8-4 mark at #1 doubles.

SAINTS ADVANCE TO FINALS OF A AND B FLIGHT DOUBLES & SINGLES

Apr. 25: The St.Lawrence women's tennis team traveled to Cortland this weekend to compete in the William Smith Tournament to conclude the season.

Anne Moulin, seeded second in the "A" Flight Singles, advanced to the finals by beating Jennie Werts and Jen Beekman, both of Ithaca and Amanda Husson of Cortland. Courtney Ellis fell to Karen Newbury of William Smith in the opening round 6-1, 6-3 in the "A" Flight Singles.

Liz Kelly, seeded second in the "B" Flight Singles, advanced to the finals. Kelly defeated Sara Goldstein of SUNY New Paltz, Sarah Coffin of William Smith and #3 Melissa Walsh of Ithaca to advance. Meg Terrien, seeded fourth in the "B" Flight Singles, advanced to the semi-finals by beating Kristin Dowling of William Smith and Alisaon Vegh of Brockport State. Terrien lost to #1 Andrea Terbush in the semi-finals. The finals matches were not held due to the weather conditions in Cortland.

In the "C" Flight Singles, Emily Leibowitz defeated Jenny Hemedinger of Cortland 6-2, 7-6 but then fell to Heidi Ambrozaitis of William Smith 6-1, 6-1.

In the "A" Flight Doubles, Kelly/Moulin, seeded second, advanced to the finals by defeating Dorscheid/Terbush of Cortland 8-6 and Carroll/Walsh of Ithaca 8-3. Kelly/Moulin were set to play Stellato/Werts, seeded first, of Union in the finals.

In the "B" Flight Doubles, Ellis/Terrien, seeded first, advanced to the finals by beating Bermudez/McDonald of Brockport 8-0 and Grassi/Maier of William Smith 8-3. Ellis/Terrien were set to meet second-seeded Husson/McCaslin of Cortland in the finals.

None of the doubles finals were held due to the weather conditions in Cortland.

SAINTS WIN BOTH DOUBLES FLIGHTS, "A" SINGLES FLIGHT

Apr. 18: The St.Lawrence women's tennis team had a great showing at the 2004 St.Lawrence Women's Tennis Spring Invitational. Anne Moulin won the "A" Singles Flight and the "A" Doubles Flight with partner Liz Kelly. Courtney Ellis and Meg Terrien won the "B" Doubles Flight.

Moulin defeated Laurie Dorscheid of Cortland, ranked 30th in the Northeast, in the semi-finals 7-6(5), 6-4 to advance to the finals. In the finals, she beat Meghan Carroll of Ithaca, ranked 33rd in the Northeast, 6-1, 6-0. Carroll had defeated Amanda Husson of Cortland 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals.

In the "B" Flight singles, Terrien defeated Meredith McCaslin of Cortland 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the finals. Terrien then fell to Melissa Walsh of Ithaca 6-1, 6-0 in the finals. Walsh defeated Robin Medina of Nazareth 3-6, 6-3, (11-9) in the semi-finals. In the "C" Flight singles, Katie Dempsey of Ithaca defeated Liz Zimmerli of Nazareth 6-4, 6-2 in the semi-finals to meet Megan Keenan of Ithaca. Keenan defeated teammate Molly Workman 6-1, 6-3 in the other semi-final match. Keenan won the flight over Dempsey 6-0, 6-3.

In the "A" Doubles flight, Moulin/Kelly defeated Dorscheid/McCaslin of Cortland 8-2. In the "B" Doubles flight, Ellis/Terrien defeated Dempsey/Keenan of Ithaca 8-5 to win the match.

SAINTS IN FINALS OF BOTH DOUBLES FLIGHTS AT SLU SPRING INVITATIONAL

Apr. 17: Anne Moulin/Liz Kelly advanced to the finals of the "A" Flight doubles bracket of the St.Lawrence Women's Tennis Spring Invitational Saturday afternoon. Courtney Ellis/Meg Terrien advanced to the finals of the "B" Flight doubles bracket. Moulin/Kelly will face Laurie Dorscheid/Meredith McCaslin of Cortland on Sunday morning. Ellis/Terrien will meet Katherine Dempsey/Megan Keenan of Ithaca in the finals.

Moulin/Kelly defeated Husson/TerBush of Cortland 8-3 in the opening round. The duo then defeated Medina/Gaddis of Nazareth 8-2 to advance to the finals. Ellis/Terrien downed Pagano/Saraga of Cortland 8-1 in the opening round. The pair defeated Arjomand/Tennis of Ithaca 8-3 to advance to the finals.

In the singles flights, Moulin will meet Dorscheid in the semi-finals of the "A" Flight bracket. Amanda Husson of Cortland and Meghan Carroll of Ithaca will meet in the other semi-final match. Moulin defeated Andrea TerBush in the second round 4-6, 6-4, (10-3) after a bye in the opening round. Dorscheid defeated St.Lawrence's Kelly 6-1, 6-0 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. Carroll defeated St.Lawrence's Ellis 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals.

In the "B" Flight, Terrien will meet McCaslin in the semi-finals with Robin Medina of Nazareth and Melissa Walsh of Ithaca meeting in the second semi-final match Sunday morning. Terrien defeated Erin Chapman of Ithaca 6-3, 6-3 in the second round after an opening round bye. McCaslin downed St.Lawrence's Kristi Martin 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals. Denise Kyte withdrew from her opening round match against Jennifer Hemedinger of Cortland due to a knee injury. Hemedinger lost to Medina in the second round 6-2, 6-0.

In the "C" Flight, Liz Zimmerli of Nazareth and Katie Dempsey of Ithaca will meet in the first semi-final match. In the second semi-final match, Keenan of Ithaca will meet teammate Molly Workman. Zimmerli defeated St.Lawrence's Majken Tranby 7-6 (1), 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals. Workman downed St.Lawrence's Emily Leibowitz 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

Matches will resume on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. Saturday's matches were force inside around noon due to rain. Sunday's matches will also be played inside Newell Fieldhouse.

SAINTS MOVE UP IN RANKINGS

Apr. 16: The St.Lawrence University women's tennis team moved up to 15th from 16th in the ITA Northeast Regional rankings. The Saints 16th place ranking was a best under head coach Jeremy Freeman. The Saints finished the fall with a 9-3 record, and 13-3 overall, having won their four spring matches.

The Saints will be in action Saturday and Sunday at the St.Lawrence Women's Tennis Spring Invitational.

SAINTS COMPETE AT MIDDLEBURY INVITATIONAL

Apr. 5: The St.Lawrence women's tennis team traveled to Middlebury for the 2004 Middlebury Invitational.

In the "A" Flight singles, Anne Moulin fell to Sedlis of Connecticut 6-3, 6-0 in the opening round. Liz Kelly lost to Husson of Cortland 7-5, 6-2.

In the "B" Flight singles, Denise Kyte defeated Weaver of Montclair 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round. In the following match, Kyte lost to Gang of Tufts, 6-2, 6-0. Meg Terrien defeated Accomando of Vermont 6-3, 6-0. In the next round, Terrien lost to Miller of Tufts 6-1, 6-1.

In the "C" Flight singles, Kristi Martin fell to #3 Baker of Middlebury 6-0, 6-0. Majken Tranby lost to O'Brian of Nazareth 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round.

In the "A" Doubles flight, Kelly/Moulin downed Salierno/Tomesko of Montclair 8-6 in the opening round. In the next round, the pair fell to Spring/Ross of Middlebury 8-1. In the "B" Doubles flight, Kyte/Martin lost to Duvoisin/Messing of Middlebury 8-1 in the opening round. And in the "C" Doubles flight, Terrien/Emily Liebowitz fell to Gaddis/Zimmerli of Nazareth 8-4 in the first round.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 for the St.Lawrence Invitational.

SAINTS 4-0 AFTER HILTON HEAD TRIP

Mar. 23: The St.Lawrence women's tennis team returned from Hilton Head, SC with four wins. The Saints, ranked 16th in the northeast, have extended their overall record this season to 13-3 - a new personal best for head coach Jeremy Freeman. In the fall, the women's team went 9-3 and Freeman was named the 2003 UCAA Coach of the Year.

The Saints opened their trip with an 8-1 win over Macalester. On Tuesday, St.Lawrence upset #14 ranked Wheaton 6-3. Wednesday, the Saints downed Stevens Institute 9-0 and on Thursday, they wrapped up the trip with a 9-0 win over Principia.

Anne Moulin playing at the #1 spot went 2-2 during the week. Moulin paired with Liz Kelly at the #1 doubles spot. The duo returned with a 3-1 record. Courtney Ellis finished with a 3-1 record at the #2 spot. Ellis paired with Meg Terrien at the #3 doubles spot in the final three matches. The pair finished at 3-0. At #3, Kelly won all four of her matches.

Terrien, Denise Kyte and Kristi Martin all went 4-0 in their singles matches. Kyte paired with Martin at the #2 doubles spot and they finished with a 4-0 record. Terrien paired with Emily Leibowitz in the first match at the #3 doubles spot, winning the match.

The Saints return to action April 2-4 when they travel to Middlebury for a weekend tournament.

ADSIT, ELLIS NAMED TO UCAA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

Jan. 16: Sophomores Mariel Adsit and Courtney Ellis were named to the UCAA All-Academic Team. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher in standing and have a cumulative gpa of 3.2 or higher.

Adsit is a psychology major from Charlotte, VT. Ellis is a Neuroscience major from Jericho, VT. Ellis finished the season with a 3-9 record in singles and a 7-6 record pairing with freshman Hannah Kreizel in doubles.

SAINTS RANKED 16TH IN THE NORTHEAST

Dec. 5 - The St. Lawrence Women's Tennis team added to their list of accomplishments this week as they were ranked 16th in the northeast by the ITA. This marks the highest the Saints have been ranked under head coach Jeremy Freeman. The Saints finished the fall season with a 9-3 overall record, placing third at the UCAA Tournament.

SAINTS CONCLUDE BEST SEASON IN FIVE YEARS

Nov. 20 - The St. Lawrence Women's Tennis team concluded its best season under Head Coach Jeremy Freeman. The Saints finished with a 9-3 overall record. The team's 3rd place finish at the UCAA Tournament was the best under Coach Freeman. As a result, Coach Freeman was named the UCAA Coach of the Year.

Freshman Anne Moulin began the season at the #3 spot and reeled off a 5-1 record. In October, Moulin was moved to the #2 spot and finished the season 5-0 playing at the #2 spot. She was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week after moving up to #2. Moulin partnered with senior Johnna Nigh in doubles, playing the #1 spot. The tandem finished the season with a 9-5 record.

The Saints will have a four week nontraditional season in the spring as they begin working towards the 2004 season.

COACH FREEMAN NAMED UCAA COACH OF THE YEAR

Nov. 4 - Head Coach Jeremy Freeman was named the 2003 UCAA Coach of the Year. Freeman is in his fifth season as head men's and women's tennis coach. He won the Men's UCAA Coach of the Year in 2001. The women's team finished the 2003 season with a 9-3 record, the best in Coach Freeman's five years. The team also finished third at the UCAA Tournament, another best under Coach Freeman.

SAINTS COMPETE AT NYSWCAA TOURNAMENT

Oct. 25 - The Saints traveled to Ithaca College this weekend to compete at the NYSWCAA Tournament. Liz Kelly playing in the D Singles Flight defeated Jaymi Della of Rochester 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Kelly fell to Heather Fuleihan of Skidmore 6-0, 6-2.

Meg Terrien playing in the E Singles Flight defeated Kate Borne of Hamilton 6-0, 7-5 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Terrien fell to Carol Young of NYU 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Moulin/Nigh defeated Borne/Donavan of Hamilton 8-5 in the A Doubles Flight. Kelly/Kyte deated King/Smith of Geneseo 8-6 in the B Doubles Flight. Ellis/Kreizel fell to McAdoo/O'Brien of Nazareth 8-6 in the C Doubles Flight.

In doubles quarterfinals action, Moulin/Nigh fell 8-5 to Stellato/Werts in the A Flight. In the B Flight, Kelly/Kyte fell to Damon/Pauli 9-8(7).

SAINTS FALL IN UCAA SEMIFINAL, FINISH IN THIRD

Oct. 11 - The #3 seeded Saints fell 5-0 to #2 Skidmore in the semifinals of the UCAA Championship. St. Lawerence defeated #5 Union in the third place match, 5-2.

Anne Moulin defeated Union's #2 6-0, 6-3. Liz Kelly, playing at #4 defeated Amanda Brody 6-1, 6-1 and Meg Terrien at #5, defeated Lisa Keary 7-5, 6-1. Denise Kyte was up 6-2, 5-2 when the match was called.

In doubles action, Johnna Nigh/Moulin defeated Union's #1 9-8 (7-2). Kelly/Kyte won 8-2 over Vercillo/Brody.

SAINTS OPEN AT UCAA WITH WIN

Oct. 11 - The #3 seeded Saints defeated #6 Hamilton 5-0 in the opening round of the UCAA Championship at William Smith. The match was tight, and hotly contested, despite the lopsided score. St. Lawrence will take on #2 Skidmore in the semi-finals. The match is set to begin at 4:30.

Against Hamilton, Anne Moulin won at #2, 6-1, 6-3. Meg Terrien won at #5, 6-4, 6-1. The Saints swept the doubles, with Nigh/Moulin winning 8-3 at #1, Kelly/Kyte winning 8-4 at #2 and Ellis/Kreizel winning 8-6 at #3.

Against Skidmore, the Thoroughbreds swept the doubles winning 8-6, 8-3 and 8-2. The Thoroughbreds then won at #4 and #5 in singles action to take the match.

SAINTS SET TO COMPETE AT UCAA

Oct. 10 - The #3 seeded Saints are set to compete at the UCAA Championships hosted by William Smith. St. Lawrence takes a 7-2 record into the UCAAs, having won five straight. The #3 seed is the best for the Saints under head coach Jeremy Freeman.

The Saints will take on #6 seed Hamilton at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the opening round of the UCAA Championship. The Saints defeated the Continentals 6-3 on Friday, October 3. Hamilton has a 3-5 record heading into the UCAA Championships.

SAINTS THUMP PLATTSBURGH

Oct. 7 - The Saints extended their win streak to five tonight, handing Plattsburgh a 9-0 loss. St. Lawrence improves to 7-2 on the season.

The Saints swept through the doubles. Johnna Nigh/Anne Moulin won at #1 8-1, Liz Kelly/Denise Kyte won 8-4 at #2 and Hannah Kreizel/Courtney Ellis won at #3 8-3.

Moving into singles action, St. Lawrence breezed through to shutout the Cardinals. Nigh downed Julie Slattery 6-2, 6-1 at #1. UCAA Rookie of the Week, Moulin won 6-1, 6-0 at #2. At #3, Ellis disposed of Brit Montmeat 6-2, 6-1. Kelly downed Megan Pellam 6-1, 6-1 at #4 and at #5 Meg Terrien defeated Angela Roy 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the scoring for the Saints, Kyte defeated Amanda Oliver at #6, 6-0, 6-2.

The Saints travel to William Smith this weekend to compete at the UCAA Championships.

MOULIN NAMED UCAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Oct. 6 - Freshman Anne Moulin was named UCAA Rookie of the Week for her play over the weekend. Moulin moved from the #3 to the #2 spot this week. On Friday, she defeated Hamilton's #2 6-2, 6-4 and won at doubles with Johnna Nigh, 8-4. On Saturday, Moulin overcame a 5-1 deficit to win the first set 7-5. Moulin then went onto to win the second set 6-1, helping the Saints earn a 5-4 victory over William Smith.

SAINTS SWEEP WEEKEND

Oct. 5- The Saints improved to 6-2 on the year with a sweep of their opponents this weekend. St. Lawrence downed Hamilton 6-3 on Friday and then battled back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat William Smith 5-4.

At Hamilton, Johnna Nigh/Anne Moulin won at #1 doubles 8-4 and Liz Kelly/Denise Kyte won at #2 8-4. Hannah Kreizel/Courtney Ellis fell 8-5 at #3 doubles. In singles action, Nigh fell 6-1, 6-4 at #1. Freshman Moulin moved to #2 singles, won 6-2, 6-4. Ellis defeated Hamilton's #3 6-2, 6-3. Kelly won 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) over Hamilton's #4 singles and rounding out the scoring for St. Lawrence was Meg Terrien at #5 singles, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

On Saturday, the Saints fell behind 2-1 after doubles action. Kreizel/Ellis got the lone point, winning at #3 8-5. Moving to singles action, the Saints lost at #1 and #3, falling behind 4-1. Then, Kelly and Kyte won easily 6-1, 6-1 at #4 and #6 respectively. This pulled the Saints within one at 4-3. Terrien lost the first set at #5 6-4. She then bounced back to win 6-4, 6-3 to tie the score at 4-4. Last to finish was Moulin at #2. Finding herself down 5-1 in the first set, Moulin rallied to win the set 7-5 and then won the second set 6-1 to put the Saints on top 5-4.

SAINTS COMPETE AT ITA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sept. 27 - The Saints traveled to William Smith to compete in the ITA Northeast Championships. Freshman Anne Moulin defeated Anne Luetzow of Drew, 6-3, 6-0, to make it to the second round. Moulin then lost to Karoline Munger of SIT, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Sophomore Courtney Ellis fell 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, in the first round to Jill Adornetto of Rochester. Moving to the consolation bracket, Ellis fell to Katy Robinette of Vassar, 8-3.

Senior Johnna Nigh fell in the first round to #12 Molly Patterson from William Smith, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Nigh defeated Jaymi Della, Rochester, 8-0. Nigh then went on to defeat Allie Pohl of Hamilton, 9-7. In the semifinals of the consolation, Nigh fell to Amanda Husson of Cortland, 8-2.

Junior Liz Kelly fell in the first round to Kelly Graham of Vassar, 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Kelly defeated Angela Tessoni of Nazareth, 9-7. Kelly then fell in the quarterfinals to Karen Newbury of William Smith, 8-5.

In the doubles bracket, Moulin/Nigh defeated Feikert/Sudarsanan of Geneseo, 8-5. In the second round, Moulin/Nigh fell to #1 Pajoohi/Toke of Rochester, 8-5.

Kelly/Kyte fell to Luetzow/Woodhead of Drew in the first round of the doubles bracket, 8-6. Kelly/Kyte moved into the doubles consolation bracket and fell to Brady/Kula of RIT, 8-4.

SAINTS WIN IMPRESSIVELY OVER CLARKSON

Sept. 24 - The Saints (4-2) hosted nearby Clarkson this afternoon. The Saints soundly beat their rival, the Golden Knights, 7-2.

The Saints swept the doubles, picking up three points. Johnna Nigh and Anne Moulin playing at #1 doubles defeated Emily Emerick/Shannon Hopkins 8-3. At #2, Liz Kelly and Denise Kyte downed Melissa Monson/Kathryn Cyr 8-3. Rounding at the doubles, Courtney Ellis and Hannah Kreizel swept Meghan Jones/Anna Sawyer 8-0.

Clarkson won the #1 and #2 singles, picking up two points. But the Saints won at #3, #4, #5 and #6 singles to win the match. Moulin won at #3 6-0, 6-0 over Nicole Mikkelsen. Kelly won at #4 over Monson, 6-1, 6-0. Meg Terrien downed Jones 6-0, 6-1 at #5 and Kyte rounded out at #6, beating Sawyer 6-1, 6-0.

The Saints hit the road this weekend as they travel to William Smith for the ITA Tournament.

SAINTS BOUNCE BACK, BEAT CORTLAND

Sept. 14 - The Saints (3-2, 1-1) bounced back after a disappointing loss in a hard fought battle to Ithaca on Saturday to beat Cortland 5-4. The Saints battled against Ithaca and they battled against Cortland.

The Saints opened up by winning at #1 and #2 doubles. Senior Johnna Nigh and freshman Anne Moulin defeated Dorscheid/Husson 8-4 at the #1. Junior Liz Kelly and freshman Denise Kyte downed Feikert/TerBush 8-6 at #2.

St. Lawrence lost at #1 and #2 singles. Moulin, playing at #3 singles downed Husson 6-2, 6-3. The Saints then lost at #4 and sophomore Meg Terrien won at #5, 6-4, 6-4. The match would be determined by the #6 singles, with the score tied at 4-4.

Kyte playing at #6 singles quickly disposed of Meredith McCaslin, 6-1, 6-1 to win the match. The Saints move to 3-2 overall. Coach Freeman was pleased with the great effort put forth by his team.

SAINTS BATTLE HARD, FALL TO ITHACA 5-4

Sept. 13 - The Saints (2-2, 1-1) battled hard against the visiting Ithaca Bombers, but were unable to pull out the upset, falling 5-4.

St. Lawrence fell behind 2-1 after the doubles. Sophomore Courtney Ellis and Hannah Kreizel playing at the #3 doubles won the lone point for the Saints. Ellis and Kreizel played very good doubles to get the point. #1 and #2 doubles were competitive but lost 8-4 and 8-3 respectively.

The Saints came back in early singles action to take the lead 4-3. The Saints won quickly at #3, #4 and #6 singles. Freshman Anne Moulin won handily over Narguess Arjomand 6-1, 6-4 at the #3 singles. Junior Liz Kelly downed Melissa Walsh impressively in the #4 singles 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Denise Kyte defeated Katie Dempsey in the #6 singles 6-3, 6-1.

The match came down to the #1 and #2 singles which were played simultaneously. Senior Johnna Nigh at #1 and Ellis at #2 each lost the first set in their respective matches 6-1. Then they battled back and won their next set, placing a lot of significance on the final sets. Nigh fell 6-1 to Meghan Carroll to tie the score at 4-4. Ellis found herself down 5-2 before breaking serve and then holding to come back 5-4. Jen Beckman then held serve and finished off the set 6-4.

The Saints take to the court Sunday at noon against the visiting Cortland Red Dragons.

SAINTS WIN SECOND STRAIGHT

Sept. 10 - The Saints continued their winning ways tonight, downing neighboring Potsdam 8-1. St. Lawrence improves its record to 2-1 overall. Senior Johnna Nigh playing in first singles, battled to a 7-6 win in the first set, and then dominated in the second, winning 6-0. Freshman Anne Moulin, playing the third singles, breezed through her match, winning 6-0, 6-0 in two sets over Kristina Koncewicz.

Junior Liz Kelly, playing the fourth singles, defeated Jamie Sico, 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Meg Terrien downed Molly Pioch 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets in the fifth singles. Playing in the sixth singles, freshman Denise Kyte won 6-0, 6-1 over Ashley Hopkins.

The Saints won all three doubles over Potsdam. Nigh/Moulin won 9-7, Kelly/Kyte won 8-2 and Ellis/Kreizel won 8-4. St. Lawrence hits the court again on Saturday, Sept. 13 when Ithaca visits Canton.

SAINTS NET FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Sept. 7- The women's tennis team closed out the weekend with a convincing win over UCAA opponent Union, 8-1. Sophomore Courtney Ellis won the second singles, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 over Jennie Werts. Freshman Anne Moulin downed Meg Vercillo, 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles. Liz Kelly, Meg Terrien and Denise Kyte all won in fourth, fifth and sixth singles respectively.

Johnna Nigh and Moulin partnering in the first doubles, defeated Stellato/Werts 8-5. Kelly/Kyte downed Vercillo/Brody 8-6 and Ellis/Kreizel defeated Lauroesch/Keary 8-4.

The Saints improve their record to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the UCAA. The Saints will take the courts again on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when they host visiting Ithaca.

SAINTS DROP SEASON OPENER TO SKIDMORE

Sept. 6 - The women's tennis team opened up its 2003-04 campaign with a loss to visiting Skidmore. The Saints showed their youth this afternoon, losing 9-0, 3-0 in doubles and 6-0 in singles competition, to the Thoroughbreds. Johnna Nigh paired with Anne Moulin in doubles, losing 8-3 to Fuleihan/Dolan. Liz Kelly/Denise Kyte lost 8-4 Pauli/Damon. Courtney Ellis/Hannah Kreizel fell 8-0 to Gale/Rosenthal.

Nigh fell to Dolan in two sets, 6-3, 6-3 in first singles. Ellis, playing in the second singles, lost to Gale in two sets 6-2, 6-2.

Coach Freeman was encouraged by the team's effort, but they had some problems finishing points, which showed their youth.

FIVE SAINTS NAMED ITA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

July 17, 2003 - Five Saints have been honored as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes. To be an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must have at least a 3.50 grade point average and be a varsity letter winner.

From the women's tennis team, Courtney Ellis was honored. The freshman from Jericho, Vt. posted an 8-13 record playing at #2. Ellis also finished 10-9 in doubles, pairing up with several different players.

From the men's team, senior Adam Cutter, Winthrop, ME, senior Aaron Cutter, Winthrop, ME, junior John DeLorbe, Wilmington, DE, and sophomore Terran Palmer-Angell, Plattsburgh, N.Y. were all honored. Adam Cutter, a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, posted an 11-9 record this season. Aaron, also a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, finished the season 11-14. DeLorbe posted a 10-7 record as a doubles specialist in 2002-03 and Palmer-Angell finished 6-4 this season.
