Women's Tournament Match Recaps

Hamilton 9, William Smith 0

Hamilton began the defense of its Liberty League women’s squash title with a highly competitive 9-0 win over William Smith. Three matches were decided by 3-2 scores in the middle of the lineup and Hamilton’s Krissy Rubin won a 3-0 match at two over Lori Stump of the Herons, 9-1, 10-9, 10-8. Hamilton’s Leila Clifford and Maddie Brooks traded game wins at three before Clifford prevailed 9-5 in game five; Courtney Kollmer of Hamilton trailed 2-1, but won games four and five by 9-6 and 10-8 scores for a 3-2 in at four and Natalie Schwerin trailed the Herons’ Katie Mullen 2-0, but came back with 9-4, 9-4, 9-4 wins for a 3-2 win at five. Hamilton is now 1-0 while William Smith is 1-1.

St. Lawrence 6, Vassar 3

The Saints won their first match in the tournament with a strong showing from the bottom of the lineup. Meg North won 3-0 at one for SLU and Anne Perry Daniels and Jesse Ziegler picked up key wins at five and six. Teddy Weiss, Anna Licht and Hope Blinkoff won at two, three and four for the Brewers.

Hamilton 9, St. Lawrence 0

Hamilton cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Saints in its second match of the day on Saturday. Blake Carbone was the only Saint to win a game as she won game one 9-6 against Nina Platt at nine before Platt came back to take the match 3-1. Leila Clifford and Danielle Forsyth each allowed only one point in three games in their matches while Courtney Kollmer and Natalie Schwerin allowed only two each.

William Smith 9, Vassar 0

The Herons pulled even at 1-1 for the tournament with a 9-0 win over Vassar in match two for both teams on Saturday. Vassar players extended matches at two, three, six and seven, but William Smith prevailed in all. Lori Stump came back to beat Vassar's Eleanor Weiss, dropping game one, 9-2, but winning 9-2, 10-8 and 10-9 in a highly competitve match at two and Maddie Brooks of William Smith edged Anna Licht of Vassar 3-2.

Hamilton 9, Vassar 0

Hamilton won its second straight Liberty League championship with a 9-0 win over Vassar as the Continentals swept the field without losing a single match. Krissy Rubin had the only match to go more than three games for the Continentals against Vassar, beating Eleanor Weiss 3-1.

William Smith 8, SLU 1

William Smith finished second in the tournament with an 8-1 win over host St. Lawrence in the final match for women. The Saints, 1-2 in the tourney, were able to extend five of the top eight matches, but the Herons prevailed. Lucy Ross of William Smith beat Meg North 3-1 at one, Emily Gailun turned back Laura Dobbs of the Saints 3-1 at four, Emily Hazenberg came from 2-1 down to beat Jessie Ziegler 3-2 at six, Sarah Hallberg topped Anna Dunlop 3-1 at seven and Anne Fallon beat Molly Terrien 3-2 at eight. Blake Carbone was a 3-0 winner at nine and Katie Demakos won 3-0 at ten for the Saints.
