SAINTS APPOINT MEN'S AND
WOMEN'S SQUASH COACH
August 9: Vijay Chitnis will take over as the head coach
of the St. Lawrence University men's and women's squash teams in the 2001-2002
season. The squash program is entering just its third season as a varsity
sport at St. Lawrence.
Chitnis was an All-America squash player at Brown University,
where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in eastern religions. He has
spent time as a coach at several levels, mostly in Canada, where he taught
on the club level for a number of years. He also had a stint at Brock
University, which is located near Niagara Falls, Canada.
As a player, he was named the Brown University Athlete of
the Year, as well as earning All-America honors. He was nationally ranked
while playing on the junior circuit in his native Canada.
Working on his master's degree in general education at St.
Lawrence, Chitnis spent the last four years traveling India as a social
worker.
