Chris Abplanalp is in his second season as head men's and women's squash coach after earning both men's and women's Liberty League Coach of the Year in 2005-06, his first full season as coach. Abplanalp took over the program as interim coach in December of 2004 and led the Saints to their highest rankings ever in the second half of the season.
“Chris did an outstanding job after taking over the program and coached the men’s team to its best finish ever in the final team rankings and the women matched their best finish as well,” said St. Lawrence Athletic Director Margie Strait. “He has the support of both teams, who are excited about his appointment, and he has the support of the athletic department. I am very pleased that we are able to name him as the official head coach of the squash teams and look forward to a long and successful coaching career for Chris.”
The Saint women went 6-5 under Abplanalp’s guidance and finished 12 th in the final College Squash Association rankings, matching their best finish ever. The Saint men cracked the top 20 for the first time in the history of the program, finishing 19 th in the final CSA rankings.
Abplanalp, a Canton native and a lacrosse player at Connecticut College, is in his eighth year as assistant men’s lacrosse coach. He will continue in that role in addition to being head squash coach. He has also worked in the St. Lawrence athletic program in intramurals and in game management. |
