MIDDLEBURY WINS '08 OPENER 8-1

Jan. 14: Middlebury College, ranked 17th nationally, handed the Saint women's squash team an 8-1 loss in the first match of the 2008 portion of the season at Middlebury on Monday.

The lone win for the Saints, now 3-6 on the season, came from Blake Carbone, who improved to 6-2 on the season with a 3-2 win over Abby Hoercher of Middlebury at nine. Carbone lost the first two games of hte match by 9-6 scores, but rallied to win the next three games, all by 9-5 scores, for the lone Saint point in the match.

Meg North lost to Sally Hatfield at one, Jacqueline Barrett to Virginia Shannon at two, Laura Dobbs to Caroline Woodworth at three and Alyssa Smith lost to Ellie Buechner at four. Erin Hart lost 3-0 to Brook Beatt at five, Brokke Farquhar of Middlebury won 3-0 against the Saints Jesse Ziegler at six, Lee McKenna beat Anna Dunlap 3-0 at seven and the Panthers' Ashley Panichelli beat Katie Demakos 3-0 at eight.

The Saints will return to action with matches at Yale starting on Friday.
