SAINTS, BEARS TIE 1-1 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME Oct. 24: Sophomore forward Becca Townsend scored the lone goal for the St. Lawrence women’s soccer team in their 1-1 double overtime tie against neighboring Potsdam late Tuesday night in Potsdam, NY.
The Bears was the first to get up on the scoreboard as Lacey Malbeuf scored her ninth goal of the season for Potsdam in the 23 rd minute of the contest. Teammate Jenette Rutan assisted the goal.
It wouldn’t be until the second half that the Saints would respond with a goal from Townsend, who got the ball off a cross from first year forward Lizzie Bogosian in the 54 th minute, and was able to put it past Bears keeper Sarah Casey. Townsend’s second goal of the 2007 campaign tied the game at a goal a piece. Bogosian’s assist was her fourth this season.
The Saints out shot the Bears 10-6 in 110 minutes of play, with a 7-2 edge in the second period, when Townsend scored. The Saints had five shots on goal, while Potsdam had three.
Saints first-year keeper Hayleigh Hochberg had two saves for St. Lawrence, and Casey had four.
The Saints, now 7-8-1 overall in the season, will play in their final game of the season this Saturday, October 27 th against SUNY Cortland. The game is set to begin at 2:00pm on Sandy MacAllaster Field.
