SAINTS DROP TO #9 HAMILTON, 5-1 Oct. 20: First year Katie McHugh scored her first collegiate goal and the only goal for the Saints against nationally-ranked Hamilton College in Clinton, NY on Saturday afternoon. The Saints lost to the #9 Continentals, 5-1.
The midfielder, who hails from Lowville, NY, scored an unassisted goal for the Saints in the 48th minute when her shot slipped under Hamilton keeper Caitlin McGilley’s reach and past the goal line.
The Continentals out shot the Saints in the first half 10-2 and had four goals before the period was over. Hamilton’s Erica Dressler scored the first and last goals of the game for the Continentals, tallying her ninth and tenth goals of the season, and had the assist on the third goal, which was scored by teammate Taylor Brady. her assist broke Hamilton’s single-season record, while her season point total, which currently stands at 28, now ties another single-season record.
In the second half, the Saints poured on the pressure. The Continentals only out shot the Saints 11-10, while Dressler had her second goal of the game in the 81 st minute.
Sophomore Becca Townsend had three shots on goal for the Saints, while junior Caitlin Quinn had two, and sophomore Stanzi McGlynn, as well as first year Lizzie Bogosian had one each.
Saints keeper Hayleigh Hochberg had eight saves in the game, while McGilley had five. Hamilton’s Kate Fowler stepped in between the posts for the Continentals and relieved McGilley for the last thirteen minutes of the game and made two saves. The Saints, who are now 7-7-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the Liberty League, will play in their last conference game Sunday afternoon in Geneva, NY against the William Smith Herons. The game is set to begin at 1:00pm.
