EIGHT PLAYERS NAMED TO
UCAA ACADEMIC TEAM
Eight members of the St. Lawrence University women's
soccer team were named to the Upstate Collegiate Athletic
Association Academic team.
To be qualified for the award players must maintain a
3.2 overall grade point average as well as have sophomore standing
at St. Lawrence.
The members include Kate Adams, neuroscience, Marina
Brauch, economics-mathematics, Devon Cain, undeclared, Nicole Lopez,
mathematics, Liz Masterson, government, Liz Mastrianni, math &
psychology, Sarah Skinner, undeclared, and Leah Yandow,
undeclared.
MASTERSON NAMED TO
NSCAA/ADIDAS ALL-AMERICA TEAM
The 2003 National Soccer Coaches Association of
America/adidas Women’s Division III All-America Teams were announced
and for the second time in the St. Lawrence University women’s
soccer program history, a player was picked for the first-team
honors.
Junior Liz Masterson from Steamboat Springs Colorado was listed
as First-Team All America for her position at midfield.
Masterson started in all of the Saints 17 games and recorded
eight points from her four goals. She was third on the team in shots
with 34 and fourth with shots on goal.
In all, 28 different schools were represented, including NCAA
Runner-up Chicago, led by sophomore Renee Neuner's first-team
selection, while teammate Diana Connett was named to the second
team.
The honorees will be recognized at the NSCAA
All-America Luncheon on Jan. 17, 2004. The luncheon is part of the
57th Annual NSCAA Convention, which will be held Jan. 14-18, 2004,
at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C.
MASTERSON, YANDOW
HONORED
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America
Adidas All-Region Northeast team was announced and two Saints made
the list.
Junior midfielder Liz Masterson was named to the first team while
sophomore defensewoman Leah Yandow was listed on the third team.
Masterson started in all of the Saints game and collected 4 goals
including a game winner while Yandow was solid at defense as she
also started in all of the games and recorded two goals.
TWO SAINTS
AWARDED
The New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic
Association (NYSWCAA) announced it’s 2003 All-State Soccer team. Two
Saint players were named to the team including juniors Nicole Lopez
and Liz Masterson.
As a forward, Lopez started and played in all of the Saints 17
games and scored seven goals, two of which were game winners, and
had four assists. Lopez tallied a total of 18 for the Saints as
their number one scorer.
At midfield, Masterson also started in all of the Saints game and
collected 4 goals including a game winner.
SAINTS FALL IN FIRST
ROUND OF UCAA TOURNAMENT
Nov. 8- The St. Lawrence University’s women’s soccer
team ends it season after falling to Union 4-1 in the first round of
the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
The number four seeded Saints (10-5-2) faced top seed and host
Union College (16-1-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m. on Garis Field.
Union's Brittany Cressman had three goals and one assist in the
game as she went on to be named the Tournament MVP.
Jen Giller scored the lone Saints goal on an assist by Nicole
Lopez. Giller is second in scoring for the Saints with five goals on
the season and Lopez is tied for first in goals and assists with
seven and four respectively.
Carly Draper had six saves while Union's Julie Gawronski made one
save in the win while Katie Ratner closed out the last five minutes
of play.
The UCAA All-Tournament team was announced after
Sunday’s championship game between Union and William
Smith.
Two Saints were named on the team including Kate Adams
and Jen Giller, who scored the lone Saint goal in the 4-1 loss
against Union.
Jen Munoz and Anna Arnold were selected from
Hamilton’s team who lost 3-2 against William Smith in an overtime
shoot out. William Smith selected Seraphine Hamilton, Nikki Dudley
and Stephanie Leveille, while Union’s Brittany Cressman (MVP),
Lindsay Kroell, Katie Ryan, Marissa VanWoeart and Stephanie Mole’
rounded out the selection.
FIVE SAINTS
AWARDED
Nov. 7-Junior Liz Masterson and sophomore Leah Yandow
were both named to the 2003 UCAA All-Conference First Team.
Masterson was honored for her solidarity at midfield while Yandow
was recognized for her stellar performance at defense.
Junior Nicole Lopez, sophomore Sarah Skinner and freshman Zippy
Podhaizer were all named to the All-Conference Second Team. Lopez
had a solid year at forward while Skinner was a major factor for the
Saints at midfield. Skinner leads the Saints in points and is tied
in first place with Lopez for the most goals of the season.
Podhaizer had an impressive first year at defense as she started
and played in all of the Saints 16 games.
