TURNER NATIONALLY RANKED IN SCORING

Saint junior Stacy Turner ranked 10th nationally in goal scoring at 4.46 per game and was 12th in point scoring at 5.54 per game in the final NCAA Division III women's lacrosse statistics.

Turner scored 58 goals and had 72 points in 13 games for the Saints this spring. She led the nation in goal scoring and point scoring in field hockey and between the two sports scored 89 goals and had 150 points during the 2000-2001 academic year.

TURNER AND DeHAAS EARN ECAC LACROSSE HONORS

June 4 — St. Lawrence University junior Stacy Turner and senior Andrew DeHaas each earned Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate Lacrosse All-Star honors after spectacular seasons in 2001. Turner was named first team as an attack for the Saints women's team while DeHaas earned second-team honors as a defenseman.

Turner finished 12th in the nation in points, averaging 5.54 points per game, with 72 points on 58 goals and 14 assists. She was ninth in the nation in goal scoring with a 4.46 average. Turner was also named a first-team All-UCAA selection. The Saints finished the season at 7-6, bowing out in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament quarterfinals to Ithaca.

DeHaas added second-team ECAC Division III Upstate Lacrosse All-Star honors on top of his first-team All-UCAA selection. The senior anchored the defense leading the Saints to a 12-4 record and the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse championship. He tallied two points on defense with a goal and an assist.

Sarah Gloo, a senior from Hamilton, was named the Player of the Year as she scored 65 points in 13 games and finished tenth in the nation averaging 4.23 goals per game. Nazareth senior Eric Goodberlet, was the men's Player of the Year for the 15-1 Golden Flyers, averaging 2.78 goals per game and 0.70 assists per contest.

FIVE SAINT PLAYERS EARN ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

May 7 — Five members of the women's lacrosse team were named to the 2001 UCAA All-Academic team this spring. Sophomores Nellie Carrato and Anne Hawley, juniors Stacy Turner and Kit Whaley, and senior Melissa Heffler all received the honors. All five met the criteria of having a minimum of a 3.2 grade point average and being significant contributors to the team.

SAINTS CLOSE OUT SEASON IN NYSWCAA TOURNEY

May 2 — The women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-12 loss to host and second-seeded Ithaca in Wednesday's NYSWCAA Quarterfinals. They finish the season at 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the UCAA conference.

The Bombers jumped out to a 12-7 halftime lead over the Saints and added seven more goals after intermission, allowing just five more by St. Lawrence.

Ithaca's Jessica Welsh led all scorers with six goals and one assist.

The Saints were led by Stacy Turner, who scored six goals. Brenna Bennett added two goals. Jenny Marmion chipped in two goals and an assist, while Amanda Bolton and Jenny Heffler each scored once.

In goal, Desiree McKoan made 11 saves for the Saints and Brooke Andrews stopped 13 shots for the Bombers.

MCKOAN NAMED UCAA GOALIE OF WEEK

May 1 — Saint freshman Desiree McKoan was named the UCAA Goalie of the Week after having a big game against Hartwick to end the regular season. McKoan stopped 18 shots on goal as the Saints defeated the Hawks 11-10. St. Lawrence, now 7-5 overall, will face Ithaca College in the NYSWCAA quarterfinals on Wednesday.

SAINTS TO FACE ITHACA IN NYSWCAA TOURNEY

April 30 — The women's lacrosse team has earned the number seven seed in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament and will play Ithaca at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ithaca, who earned the number two seed, will host the game. The semifinals and finals are set to be played at Hartwick College this Friday and Saturday.

TURNER, SAINTS END REGULAR SEASON ON WINNING NOTE

April 29 — Saint junior Stacy Turner helped the St. Lawrence women's lacrosse team end their regular season on a winning note on Sunday afternoon, as the Saints edged host Hartwick 11-10. The Saints are 7-5 overall with the win, while the Hawks fall to 9-7 overall.

The two teams were deadlocked at 6-6 going into halftime, and the Saints opened the second half of play with three unanswered goals. Hartwick then scored three goals of their own, making it 9-9.

Turner scored the next two in a row, and Hartwick could only rally for one final goal, as the Saints walked away with the victory.

Amanda Bolton chipped in two goals and one assist. Jenny Marmion added two goals, while Brenna Bennett contributed one goal and one assist. Katie Gauthier also assisted on one play. Goalie Desiree McKoan came up with 18 saves in goal.

The Hawks were led by Adrienne Spinozzi, who scored four goals. Emily Dark chipped in three goals, while Becky Melfi made 15 saves in goal.

TURNER, HEFFLER EARN PLAYER OF WEEK HONORS

April 26 — The UCAA conference recognized Stacy Turner as the Player of the Week for the second week in a row, and named Jenny Heffler the Rookie of the Week for the first time. The Saints went 1-1 last week, losing to Rensselaer 13-11 before defeating Vassar 12-8. The Saints are currently 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the UCAA conference.

Turner scored six goals in the loss to Rensselaer. She then posted four goals and four assists in the win over Vassar. Turner also compiled five ground balls in the two games.

Heffler racked up six goals, three draw controls and two ground balls in the two games. She scored three times against both Rensselaer and Vassar.

The Saints will play their final game of the regular season at 2:00 p.m. at Hartwick.

TURNER'S FOUR GOALS, FOUR ASSISTS HELP SAINTS DEFEAT VASSAR

April 21 — St. Lawrence junior Stacy Turner once again came through for the Saints offensively, tallying four goals and four assists in a 12-8 win over host Vassar on Saturday. Turner, who was named last week's ECAC Player of the Week, has led the Saints in scoring for seven consecutive games. With the win, the Saints improve to 6-5 overall (4-4 UCAA).

The Saints went into halftime with a 8-4 advantage. The two teams matched each other's four goals in the second half, as St. Lawrence walked away with the win.

Jenny Heffler added three goals for the Saints. Torey Davie chipped in two goals and one assist. Anne Hawley, Kelsey Hochstatter and Jess Manchester each scored once, while Katie Gauthier collected an assist. Goalie Kit Whaley made nine saves in the net.

Rashida Truesdale led Vassar with four goals. Goalie Bridget Milot made 16 saves.

SAINT WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY RENSSELAER

April 20 — The Saints had their four-game win streak snapped when they suffered a 13-11 loss at Rensselaer on Friday. They fall to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the UCAA conference with the loss.

The two teams battled back and forth in the opening half and were tied at 7-7 going into intermission. The second half was much of the same, but Rensselaer notched three of the final four goals of regulation to pull away with the win.

Stacy Turner led the Saints with six goals. Jenny Heffler added three goals. Katie Gauthier chipped in a goal and two assists, while Amanda Bolton scored once. Desiree McKoan made eight saves in the goal for the Saints.

Julia Greer led Union with four goals, while Erin Crocker and Kim Yates each chipped in two goals and an assist. Goalie Ann Larsen came up with 17 saves for the Dutchwomen.

TURNER NAMED ECAC PLAYER OF WEEK

April 19 — St. Lawrence junior Stacy Turner, who was named last week's UCAA Player of the Week, has also been named the ECAC Player of the Week. Turner compiled 13 goals, three assists and 10 ground balls to lead her team to victories over Clarkson and Rochester last week. She has continued with her scoring spree this week, notching five goals in a 17-3 win over St. Michael's. The Saints will play at Rensselaer and Vassar tomorrow and Saturday, respectively.

SAINTS CRUSH ST. MICHAEL'S

April 18 — The St. Lawrence women's lacrosse team improved to 5-4 overall with a 17-3 downing of St. Michael's on Wednesday. St. Michael's falls to 1-7 overall with the loss.

UCAA Player of the Week Stacy Turner opened the scoring just three minutes into regulation. The Saints notched four more goals before St. Michael's finally scored. St. Lawrence held a 9-2 lead at halftime.

The second half involved more of the same, as the Saints notched eight additional goals an allowed just one more by St. Michael's.

Turner finished the game with five goals. Katie Gauthier contributed one goal and three assists. Jenny Marmion and Torey Davie each scored twice. Heidi Hansen, Nikki Paquette and Kelsey Hochstatter each collected a goal and an assist. Amanda Bolton, Jenny Heffler, Jess Manchester and Emily Putney scored one goal each, while Laura Hanlon chipped in one assist.

Kathryn Gilliam led St. Michael's with a goal and an assist. Kimberly Ryan and Katie Henry each scored once.

St. Michael's goalie Missy Iorio collected eight saves. Desiree McKoan and Kit Whaley combined for five saves for St. Lawrence.

The Saints, who have now won four straight games, will travel to Rensselaer and Vassar on Friday and Saturday.

TURNER NAMED UCAA PLAYER OF WEEK

April 17 — St. Lawrence junior Stacy Turner was named the Player of the Week by the UCAA conference for her efforts against Clarkson and Rochester last week. She combined for 13 goals, three assists and 10 ground balls to lead the Saints in a 2-0 week against conference opponents.

Turner scored seven goals and collected two assists in just one half of play in a 15-8 win over arch-rival Clarkson on Tuesday. She followed that performance with six goals and one assist in a 10-9 edging of Rochester, who entered the game unbeaten in conference play. Turner's sixth goal was the game-winner, as she scored with just thirty seconds left in regulation to give the Saints a win.

TURNER'S LAST MINUTE GOAL GIVES SAINTS EDGE OVER ROCHESTER

April 14 — St. Lawrence junior Stacy Turner scored her sixth goal of the game with just 30 seconds left in regulation to give the Saints a 10-9 edge over Rochester on Saturday. The Saints, who have won three straight games, are now 4-4 overall and 3-3 in UCAA conference play. Rochester, who entered the game unbeaten in UCAA games, falls to 6-2 overall (2-1 UCAA).

Rochester jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the two teams were deadlocked at 4-4 going into halftime.

Turner scored back-to-back goals to open the second half, but Rochester hung around and took an 8-7 lead with 12:00 to go. Turner tied the game and Jenny Marmion reclaimed the lead for the Saints, but Rochester's Jessica Lerman scored the goal that would appear to send the game into overtime.

With under a minute to play, St. Lawrence's Heidi Hansen picked up a ground ball and fed Turner, who made her way to the goal for the game-winner. The Saints won the final draw control and time expired on the clock.

Turner finished the game with six goals and an assist to lead the Saints. Marmion tallied one goal and one assist. Katie Gauthier, Brenna Bennett and Jenny Heffler each scored once. Goalie Desiree McKoan collected nine saves.

Rochester was led by Lerman and Jenny Rogers, who each scored three goals. Katie Riegel added a goal and two assists, while Lauren Mele chipped in a goal and one assist. Arna Berke-Schlessel came up with eight saves in the goal.

TURNER LIFTS SAINTS PAST CLARKSON

April 11 — St. Lawrence junior Stacy Turner notched seven goals and two assists in the first half of play as the Saints eased to a 15-8 victory over arch-rival Clarkson on Tuesday evening. The Saints improve to 3-4 overall (2-4 UCAA) with the win. The Golden Knights, meanwhile, drop to 0-4 overall (0-4 UCAA).

Jessie Judge got Clarkson on the scoreboard first, but Turner answered three of her goals in a five minute span to put the Saints up 3-1. Mary Rice cut the Saint lead to one goal before Turner sparked a seven-goal run to close out the half. St. Lawrence held a 10-2 halftime advantage.

Clarkson went on a five-goal run in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Saints scored five more goals in regulation to make the final score 15-8.

Kelsey Hochstatter added three goals for the Saints. Nikki Paquette chipped in two goals. Katie Gauthier recorded a goal and an assist, while Jenny Heffler and Emily Putney each scored once.

Judge led Clarkson with two goals and an assist. Mary Rice, Lauren Dillon and Lindsey Ellsworth each added two goals.

Desiree McKoan and Kit Whaley combined for seven saves for St. Lawrence. Clarkson's Allison Morlock came up with 15 saves for the Golden Knights.

HAWLEY, MCKOAN COME UP BIG FOR SAINTS

April 7 — St. Lawrence sophomore Anne Hawley and freshman Desiree McKoan came up big in overtime of Saturday's UCAA contest and helped lift the Saints to a 13-12 victory over Union. Hawley scored the only goal of the overtime period, while McKoan made two last minute saves to secure the win for the Saints. St. Lawrence improves to 2-4 overall
(1-3 UCAA) with the victory. Union falls to 3-4 overall (1-2 UCAA).

The two teams exchanged goals throughout the first half until 1:00 remained on the clock, when Stacy Turner and Hawley scored back-to-back goals to give the Saints a 6-4 edge at halftime.

Union came out in the second half to score six unanswered goals and take a 10-6 lead, but St. Lawrence answered with a five-goal run of their own to reclaim a 11-10 lead.

Margaret Merriem's fifth goal of the game tied it up for Union and Nina Mandell's unassisted goal with 1:20 left in regulation made it 12-11 in favor of the Dutchwomen. Brenna Bennett would score for St. Lawrence just seven seconds later however, to ultimately force the overtime.

Hawley's goal came just over a minute into overtime when she beat Union goalie Michelle Morrin to the lower left corner of the net. McKoan took over from there, stifling two point-blank shots in the final minutes of play.

Bennett and Turner each finished the game with four goals. Hawley ended up with two goals and one assist. Jenny Heffler added a goal and an assist. Amanda Bolton and Heidi Hansen each scored once, while Jenny Marmion and Katie Gauthier each collected an assist.

Merriem led Union with five goals. Julia Davis added two goals, while Katherine Rosenburg and Ashley King each tallied a goal and an assist.

McKoan totaled six saves for St. Lawrence, while teammate Kit Whaley collected five first-half saves. Morrin stopped 11 shots in goal for Union.

The Saints will play at Clarkson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

SKIDMORE EDGES SAINTS IN UCAA CONTEST

April 6 — The St. Lawrence women's lacrosse team fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the UCAA conference with a 14-12 loss to Skidmore in their home opener on Friday.

Skidmore scored three unanswered goals in the first five minutes of regulation to take an early lead over the Saints. St. Lawrence worked their way back however, with a four-goal run that was sparked by Amanda Bolton's first goal of the game with 18:32 left in the half.

The fourth goal of the run gave the Saints a 6-5 lead when Heidi Hansen scored from Brenna Bennett, but Skidmore would get back-to-back goals from Megan Lawler and one more from Taryn Howard to end the half in an 8-6 Thoroughbred advantage.

Jenny Marmion opened the second half scoring on a pass from Bolton, but Skidmore answered with three consecutive goals before the Saints scored again. They led the Saints 14-9 with three minutes left to play and held on for the win.

Lawler finished the game with five goals for Skidmore. Howard scored three goals and collected two assists.

Bennett led the Saints with four goals and two assists. Bolton chipped in two goals and two assists. Hansen finished with two goals. Nikki Paquette added a goal and an assist, while Marmion, Jess Manchester and Jenny Heffler each scored once.

Kit Whaley made seven saves for the Saints in the first half, while Desiree McKoan came up with four saves in the second half. Allison Bernstein collected four saves for Skidmore.

The Saints will host Union at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.

HAMILTON DEFEATS SAINTS

March 31 — Host Hamilton College posted a 11-6 conference victory over the Saints on Saturday. St. Lawrence falls to 1-3 overall (0-2 UCAA) on the season with the loss.

Stacy Turner opened the scoring just five minutes into regulation, but Hamilton responded with four unanswered goals to go up 4-1.

Jenny Marmion and Brenna Bennett would each add a first half goal for the Saints, but Hamilton also punched in two more goals before halftime, holding a 6-3 advantage at intermission.

The two teams exchanged goals twice to open the second half before Hamilton went on a three-goal run to break away in the final minutes of regulation.

Turner and Bennett finished the game with two goals each. Amanda Bolton added a goal, while Katie Gauthier collected two assists.

Sarah Gloo led Hamilton with five goals.

Kit Whaley recorded seven saves for the Saints, while Jessica Asrican stopped six shots for Hamilton.

SAINTS FALL AT WILLIAM SMITH

March 30 — The Saints suffered a 13-4 loss to host William Smith in their UCAA opener on Friday. The Herons remain unbeaten and improve to 4-0 overall (1-0 UCAA) with the win. The Saints, meanwhile, fall to 1-2 overall (0-1 UCAA).

Brenna Bennett got St. Lawrence on the board first, but the Herons would answer with two goals of their own. Stacy Turner evened things up at the 14:34 mark. Neither team would score again until 1:17 remained in the half, when Rebecca Shea would notch her second goal of the game for William Smith, giving the Herons a 3-2 advantage at halftime.

In the second half of play, William Smith came out and scored three goals in the opening five minutes. They never looked back, as the Saints would score just two more goals in regulation; one from Amanda Bolton and one from Katie Gauthier.

Kit Whaley made 13 saves for St. Lawrence, playing all 60 minutes in goal.

SAINTS KICK OFF 2001 SEASON IN PANAMA CITY

March 19 — The women's lacrosse team picked up one win and one loss in Florida last week to open the season at 1-1. They defeated Bridgewater State 20-3 before suffering a 13-12 overtime loss to Quinnipiac.

Stacy Turner led all scorers with five goals and five assists against Bridgwater State. Brenna Bennett added four goals and one assist. Katie Gauthier collected two goals and two assists, while Laura Jenks went two and one.

Jen Heffler, Jenny Marmion, Anne Hawley, Torey Davie, Kelsey Hochstatter, Blair Bucklin and Emily Putney each contributed a goal, while Jessie Davie picked up an assist.

Kit Whaley and Desiree McKoan made three saves each, sharing time in goal for St. Lawrence.

Turner picked up six goals and one assist in the Quinnipiac game. Bennett added two goals and one assist. Heffler also scored two goals. Marmion and Davie each added one goal, while Gauthier and Heidi Hansen each collected an assist.

Whaley stopped 11 shots on goal for the Saints, who were outscored 2-1 in the overtime period.

St. Lawrence will play at arch-rival Clarkson on Tuesday, March 27th. A 4:00 p.m. game is scheduled.
