2000 Women's Lacrosse Archives EIGHT SAINT PLAYERS EARN UCAA ALL CONFERENCE HONORS Eight members of the Saint women's lacrosse team were among those listed on the UCAA All Conference team that was released on Tuesday. Brenna Bennett and Stacy Turner were named to the First Team for the attack position, while Alicia Jordan and Kristin Rocco received First Team honors for the midfield position. Amanda Bolton made the Honorable Mention list for the attack position and is joined by Kate Loring for the midfield position, Anne Hawley for the defensive position and Melissa Trumble for her efforts in goal. Turner, a sophomore, led the Saints in scoring with 56 goals and 10 assists in the 2000 season. Bennett, also a sophomore, chipped in 30 goals and a team high 17 assists as the Saint's second leading scorer. Jordan, a senior, collected 10 goals and five assists in addition to stopping 34 shots in goal, playing 157:00 in net for the Saints. Rocco, a junior, scored 13 times and assisted on five goals. Bolton, a junior, was the Saint's third leading scorer with 12 goals and 13 assists. Freshman Loring scored seven goals and collected four assists to go along with 27 draw controls. Hawley, also a freshman, played a key defensive role for the Saints in addition to notching two goals and two assists. Trumble, a junior, stopped 78 shots on goal, playing 603:00 in net for the Saints. TURNER EARNS REGIONAL ALL-AMERICAN HONORS Saint sophomore Stacy Turner was recently named to the Regional All-American first team. At the attack position, Turner led the Saints in scoring with an impressive 56 goals and 10 assists in the 2000 season. She scored six goals in a one-goal loss to host Ithaca College in the New York State tournament quarterfinals, which would end the Saint's season. Turner also achieved a ten-point game against arch-rival Clarkson University earlier in the season. She scored seven goals and dished out three assists. The Saints ended the year with a 6-7 overall record. TURNER, BENNETT NAMED TO ALL-STATE TEAM Saint sophomores Stacy Turner and Brenna Bennett recently earned NYSWCAA All-State honors for their success at the attack position. Turner, who led the Saints in scoring with 56 goals and 10 assists, was named to the first team. Bennett led the Saints in assists, with 17, and was named to the third team. Bennett also scored 30 goals on the season. The Saints went 6-7 and finished 2000 play with a one-goal loss to host Ithaca College in the New York State tournament quarterfinals. SAINTS CLOSE OUT SEASON WITH QUARTERFINAL LOSS TO ITHACA The Saints finished the 2000 season with a one-goal loss to Ithaca College in the New York State quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Bombers pulled off a 12-11 win on their home field and earned the right to compete in the NYSWCAA semifinals scheduled for this Saturday. The Bombers led the Saints 8-7 at halftime, with both teams scoring four goals in the second half of play. Ithaca held a two-goal advantage with just 3:26 left in regulation. Stacy Turner gave the Saints a final goal with 40 seconds to go, but the Saints could not tie the game and force an overtime in those final seconds of the game. Turner led all scorers with six goals. Teammate Brenna Bennett added two goals and three assists, while Kristin Rocco chipped in one goal and one assist. Anne Hawley and Virginia Ryan each scored once for St. Lawrence. Saint goalie Alicia Jordan stopped 12 shots in regulation. The Saints finish the 2000 season with a 6-7 overall record. WEDNESDAY'S GAME SET FOR 3:00 P.M. The Saints were originally scheduled to face Ithaca College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That game has been re-set for 3:00 p.m. and will still be played on Wednesday at Ithaca College. SAINTS WILL FACE ITHACA IN NYS 1st ROUND The women's lacrosse team received a bid to the New York State tournament last week and will continue play in the post season. They will travel to Ithaca on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. game against the Bombers. Ithaca edged the Saints by a score of 14-10 in regular season play. The Saints are currently 6-6 overall. SAINTS SNAP SIX GAME LOSING STREAK WITH WIN OVER RENSSELAER The women's lacrosse team ended regular season play on a positive note, by snapping a six game losing streak with a 14-11 conference win over visiting Rensselaer on Saturday. The Saints finish the regular season at 6-6 overall and 2-4 in UCAA conference play. The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead, sparked by Brenna Bennett, who scored back to back goals just 50 seconds into the game and 2:26 into the game respectively. Kristin Rocco added a third goal before Julia Geer put Rensselaer on the board. Stacy Turner and Amanda Bolton then scored consecutive goals for the Saints, but Geer and Erin Crocker answered for the Red Hawks. It was then an exchange of goals, with Rensselaer outscoring the Saints 3-1 in the final 5:13 of the first half to tie the game 8-8 going into halftime. The second half was much of the same, as Rensselaer opened the scoring with consecutive goals from Alison Livingston and Geer, but the Saints responded with three of their own to go up 11-10. Geer tied the game with her fourth goal of regulation, but Bennett and Virginia Ryan put the Saints back on top 13-11. Both teams went scoreless for over 11:00 of play, until Turner, who had a 50-point season for the Saints, notched a final insurance goal with 1:21 left in regulation. The Saints won by a final score of 14-11. Rensselaer's Geer led all scorers with six goals. Teammate Kim Yates added two goals for the Red Hawks, while goalie Michelle DeFranco collected nine saves. The Saints were led by Bennett, who finished the game with four goals and one assist. Turner and Ryan each chipped in three goals and an assist, while Amanda Bolton and Kate Loring each provided one goal and one assist. Alicia Jordan and Kristin Rocco each scored once, while Torey Davie collected one assist. Melissa Trumble stopped five shots on goal. SKIDMORE EDGES SAINTS IN UCAA CONTEST The women's lacrosse team suffered it's sixth consecutive loss on Friday, as visiting Skidmore College pulled off a 9-8 win. The Saints drop to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss. Megan Lawler put Skidmore on the board first, scoring two unassisted goals in the opening 1:20 of regulation. Kristin Rocco and Alicia Jordan then each scored on free position shots for St. Lawrence to tie the game. With just under 20:00 left in the first half, Jordan's low shot put the Saints up 3-2. Rocco made it a 4-2 advantage just 24 seconds later, after drawing control of the ball and breaking past four Skidmore defenders before scoring. Bridget O'Connor and Liz Argent-Belcher scored the next two respectively, to again tie the game. But Stacy Turner answered for the Saints to make it 5-4. Jo Sorrell scored for Skidmore with 4:52 left in the half, making it 5-5. Jordan then notched her third goal of the game on another free position shot. Sorrell would sneak in one more goal for Skidmore, with just 26 seconds to go before halftime, deadlocking the score at 6-6. Turner opened the second half scoring on a pass from Jordan, putting the Saints up by one goal, but Taryn Howard answered for Skidmore and Lawler collected her third goal of the game to make it 8-7. Turner tied the game back up with 11:14 left in regulation, but the Saints would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Sorrell collected the game winning goal with just under 10:00 left. The Saints, who will host Rensselaer tomorrow, got five saves from Melissa Trumble. Lori Macango also collected five saves for Skidmore. ITHACA EDGES SAINTS Ithaca College handed the Saints their fifth consecutive loss on Tuesday by defeating them 14-10 in a make-up game that was originally scheduled for April 9th. With the loss, the Saints fall to 5-5 overall and remain 1-3 in UCAA conference play. The Saints were deadlocked with Ithaca at halftime, as both teams scored five goals in the first half of regulation. The Bombers scored the first four goals of the second half, including two within the first three minutes of play, to hold on for the win. Stacy Turner led the Saints with five goals. Brenna Bennett chipped in two goals and one assist, while Virginia Ryan, Alicia Jordan and Torey Davie each scored once for the Saints. Jordan also collected an assist. Melissa Trumble collected six saves. The Saints will host Skidmore and Rensselaer on Friday and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively. HAMILTON DOWNS SAINTS The Saints lost another game on the road on Saturday, as host Hamilton College prevailed by a final score of 19-9. The Saints fall to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in UCAA conference play with the loss. Hamilton, now 8-2 overall, has won six games in a row. The Saints took an early 2-1 lead on goals by Amanda Bolton and Stacy Turner. Hamilton responded by scoring six unanswered goals, including two by Caitlin Wakefield. Hamilton led the Saints 10-5 at halftime. The Continentals then notched six more consecutive goals to start the second half, including three from Sarah Gloo. Gloo led all scorers, finishing the game with eight goals. The Saints were led by Turner's four goals and one assist. Bolton finished the game with two goals. Brenna Bennett collected one goal and one assist, while Kristin Rocco and Kate Loring each scored once for the Saints. Alicia Jordan made nine saves and Melissa Trumble collected four saves, splitting time in the goal for St. Lawrence. UNION TOPS SAINTS IN CONFERENCE GAME Host Union College picked up their 14th consecutive UCAA conference win, dating back to the 1998 season, by defeating the Saints 15-8 on Friday. The Saints, who have now lost three consecutive games, fall to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in UCAA play. Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in regulation and led the Saints 9-4 at halftime. Margaret Merriam led all scorers with five goals for Union, while teammate Abby Harris notched four goals. Brenna Bennett led the Saints with three goals. Stacy Turner added two goals, while Virginia Ryan, Amanda Bolton and Kate Loring each scored once. Saint goalie Alicia Jordan finished the game with 12 saves. The Saints will play at Hamilton College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. SAINTS FALL TO MIDDLEBURY Host Middlebury College posted a 21-4 victory over the Saints on Wednesday, handing them their second loss of the season. The Saints fall to 5-2 overall and remain 1-1 in conference play. Middlebury, currently ranked third in the nation, jumped out to a 10-0 lead until Kristen Rocco finally put the Saints on the board with 7:39 left in the first half. Amanda Bolton added a second goal for the Saints just 1:10 later, cutting the Middlebury advantage to 12-2 at halftime. Stacy Turner and Anne Hawley each provided a second half goal for the Saints, who were outshot 47-13 by Middlebury. All four Saint goals were unassisted. Saint goalie Melissa Trumble stopped 14 shots in 60:00 of play. UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER HANDS SAINTS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON WITH 11-10 WIN The University of Rochester handed the previously unbeaten Saint women's lacrosse team their first loss of the season in the pooring rain on Saturday. Despite a strong second half rally by the Saints, Rochester held on for an 11-10 win, improving their overall record to 6-3. Rochester's Kareen Kreutziger opened the scoring with an unassisted goal early in regulation. Stacy Turner answered with a goal from teammate Amanda Bolton's pass to tie the game 1-1. Both teams then went scoreless until Delphine Robatham scored for Rochester, sparking a three goal run. Torey Davie would give the Saints one more goal before halftime, but Rochester responded by notching two additional goals with less than a minute to go in the first half. Rochester led the Saints 6-2 at halftime. Kate Loring opened the scoring in the second half for the Saints, but Rochester's Lauren Mele scored just 1:28 later to again make it a four goal advantage. Stacy Turner then scored four consecutive goals for St. Lawrence to tie the game at 7-7 with 17:02 left to play. Robatham added her second goal of the game just three minutes later, sparking another three goal run for Rochester. Brenna Bennett answered for the Saints with back-to-back goals, bringing the game to 10-9 in favor of Rochester. Jenny Rogers notched an insurance goal with 6:26 left in regulation to put Rochester back up by two goals. Bennett would add one more goal for the Saints, who missed two free position shots on goal in the final minute of play. Kreutziger finished the game with three goals and an assist for Rochester. Rogers also scored three goals, while Robatham finished with two goals and an assist. Turner led the Saints with five goals, while Bennett added three goals and one assist. Loring and Davie each added a goal for the Saints. Amanda Bolton finished the game with two assists and Anne Hawley collected one. The Saints are now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They will host Ithaca College tomorrow at noon. SAINTS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH WIN OVER HARTWICK
Sophomore Stacy Turner led all scorers with five goals and two assists. Turner scored the opening goal of regulation as well as the first goal of the second half for the Saints. Teammate Kate Loring added two goals and an assist, while Brenna Bennett and Kristen Rocco each scored twice. Amanda Bolton collected her only goal of the game to put the Saints back up by two goals with 6:19 left to play. Bolton also collected an assist. Jess Manchester scored one goal and Virginia Ryan picked up one assist for the Saints. Marnie Kommalan led the Hawks with five goals, including the last two goals of regulation to keep Hartwick in the game. Nicole Oh added three goals, while Adrienne Spinozzi had two. Emily Dark also scored for the Hawks.
Led by sophomore Stacy Turner, the Saints handed arch-rival Clarkson University a 22-6 loss on Tuesday afternoon. The contest marked the home opener as well as the conference debut for the Saints, who are now 1-0 in conference play and 4-0 overall. Turner assisted on teammate Amanda Bolton's game opening goal and then scored three consecutive goals herself as the Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead. She finished the game with seven goals and three assists to lead all scorers. Turner also put an end to a 3-0 run by the Golden Knight's early in the second half with her sixth goal of the contest. Clarkson went scoreless from that point on. Kristin Rocco chipped in five goals and an assist for the Saints, while Brenna Bennett collected four goals and three assists. Alicia Jordan scored three times and set up two goals, while Bolton set up four goals and scored twice. Nellie Carrato also notched a goal for the Saints. Saint goalie Melissa Trumble finished the game with seven saves, including six in the second half of play. The Golden Knights, who trailed 13-3 at halftime, were led by Lindsey Ellsworth and Lauren Dillon, who each scored twice. Clarkson is now 0-1 on the 2000 season. SAINTS SWEEP THREE GAMES IN FLORIDA; START 2000 SEASON AT 3-0 The women's lacrosse team traveled to Panama City, Florida last week and returned home with a 3-0 record. They defeated Springfield College 15-13 on Wednesday, Mt. Holyoke 10-9 on Thursday and Vassar 11-6 on Friday. Sophomore Stacy Turner led the Saints by compiling 15 goals and three assists in the three games. Turner collected six goals against both Springfield and Vassar. She scored three others in Thursday's one-goal win over Mt. Holyoke. Teammate Brenna Bennett, also a sophomore, chipped in nine goals and six assists. She notched four goals against Springfield, three against Mt. Holyoke and two against Vassar. Bennett assisted on three goals against Mt. Holyoke and set up six goals against Vassar. Junior goalie Melissa Trumble collected 28 saves after three games for the Saints. She stopped 10 shots against Springfield, seven shots against Mt. Holyoke and 11 shots against Vassar. The Saints will host arch-rival Clarkson next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
