A TALE OF TWO HALVES: BIG 1ST POWERS SAINT WIN AT ROCHESTER March 30: St. Lawrence University’s women’s lacrosse team used a big first half to set the stage for a 13-10 Liberty League win at Rochester on Friday, jumping out to a 10-3 lead and hanging on for the victory.
Draw controls and the scoring of Amanda Forbes and Alanna Waters lifted the Saints to their big first half lead as Forbes had three of her four goals in the game and Waters had two in the first half.
Forbes made it 11-3 early in the second half and the Saints held off the Yellowjackets for their third straight win. Goaltender Becky Timbers had a big game in goal for the Saints with a dozen saves, ten of them in the second half.
“Becky was outstanding,” said Saint coach Jody Axtell. “She made some really big saves at critical points in the game. We are able to dominate the first half with draw controls and fast breaks, and they did a better job on the draw controls and worked back into it in the second half. It was a very good game, and a good win for us on the road.”
Waters led the Saints offensively with four goals and an assist and senior Patty Ball added two goals for the Saints, who will play at Hamilton on Saturday.
