SAINTS UPEND SKIDMORE ON DURKI GOAL
March 31: Kathryn Durki scored off a turnover with 3:20 to play to spring the St. Lawrence women’s lacrosse team to a 6-5 upset over Skidmore in a Liberty League game in Saratoga Springs on Friday.
Durki intercepted a clearing pass and faked high on goalie Sarah Berheide before putting the ball into the upper corner of the net. The Saints then controlled the ensuing draw and were able to kill of the remaining three minutes of the game for their second straight victory and first Liberty League win of the year. SLU takes a 2-4 overall record and a 1-2 Liberty League mark into a Saturday game at Union.
The Saints grabbed an early lead on Skidmore, 6-1, 2-1 which entered the game ranked 18 th nationally. Sofie Malinowski and Lis Reade scored to give the Saints a 2-0 edge, but Skidmore battled back to tie. Lizzy Dickson converted a free position shot with 10:50 to play in the first half and then tied the game at 2-2 with 27 seconds left in the half.
Skidmore’s Emily Clark and the Saints Susanna Whitaker-Rahilly traded goals early in the second half and Skidmore went back on top 4-3 with 18:55 to go on Annie Ledyard’s goal.
Alanna Waters tied it with a free position goal for the Saints with 7:33 to play and Durki scored her first of the game for a 5-4 lead with 6:14 left. Liz Prentice tied it again for Skidmore with 5:23 to play, setting up Durki’s game winner just over two minutes later.
Cynthia Saul had a strong game in goal for the Saints with eight saves on 13 shots on goal while Berheide had 11 saves on 17 shots on net. Overall the Saints had a 24-21 edge in shot attempts. |
