SAINTS ROLL TO 21-6 LACROSSE WIN OVER RIT
April 29: Senior midfielder Meghan Clement scored four goals and set up a fifth and sophomore Sophie Malinowski scored four goals for the third straight game as St. Lawrence University rolled to a 21-6 non-league women’s college lacrosse victory over RIT on North Country Field Saturday afternoon.
The Saints, who will conclude their season with Potsdam at home on Tuesday, improve to 6-7 on the season while RIT, which plays at Clarkson Sunday, is 2-11.
Malinowski opened the scoring for the Saints 54 seconds into the game, scoring as she broke in one-on-one with Tiger goalie Kelsey Evans. RIT’s all-time leading scorer Pinckney Templeton tied the game just under two minutes later on the Tigers’ first shot of the game, but then it got very lonely for Saint goalie Ali Mattison and the SLU defense.
The Saints spent most of the next 26 minutes in the RIT zone, outshooting the Tigers 18-2 and building a 14-1 lead before the Tigers scored on their third shot of the game, another by Templeton with 1:05 to play in the first half. St. Lawrence led 15-2 at the half and scored the first five goals of the second half to coast to the win. The Saints outshot RIT 45-14 for the game and won 18 of 29 draws. Mattison had five saves for the Saints while Evans finished with 16 saves for the Tigers.
In addition to Clement and Malinowski, Avery Cushman had three goals and Susanna Whitaker-Rahilly had two goals and two assists for the Saints. Templeton finished with three goals for RIT and Amanda Crozier had a goal and an assist.
