WOLFF, PALMER NAMED 2008 NYSWCAA

Apr. 2: The New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) announced their 2008 NYSWCAA Basketball All-Stars on Tuesday, naming St. Lawrence senior guard and co-captain Jamie Wolff and junior forward Katie Palmer to the short list of honorees.

Wolff (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) and Palmer (Bourne, MA/Falmouth Academy) were two of 10 players to be named All-Stars, a list that only contained three Liberty League players including the two Saints.

Combined, the two players accounted for 908 of St. Lawrence’s 1906 points in the 2007-2008 season. Wolff, who tallied 470 points, and Palmer who had 438, were the top two point scorers in the Liberty League this past season. Their efforts led the Scarlet and Brown to their first conference tournament title, as well as their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

St. Lawrence was one of two schools represented twice on the list, with the other being Cortland. Others honorees included William Smith’s Marissa Vespa, who was also named NYSWCAA Player of the Year, Jessica McEntee (NYU), Ashley Broadhurst (Brockport) , Jessica Laing (Cortland) , Julie Marriott (Rochester) , Allison Boehm (St. John Fisher) , Jessica Berry (Utica) and Sara Cavanaugh (Cortland).

Berry was voted NYSWCAA’s Rookie of the Year, while William Smith Head Coach Lindsay Drury was named Coach of the Year.

All honorees were voted on by basketball members of the NYSWCAA.
