WOLFF NAMED CONFERENCE

CO-GUARD OF THE WEEK

Jan. 21: For the fifth time this season, senior guard and co-captain Jamie Wolff received Liberty League Co-Guard of the Week honors on Monday after reaching the 1,000 career point mark and leading the St. Lawrence women’s basketball team to an undefeated weekend in conference play, and extending their winning streak to ten games.

Wolff ( Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) reached the milestone on Friday night against Skidmore College, scoring a game-high 22 points to lead the Saints to victory over the Thoroughbreds. The guard also had a game-high 14 points against Union on Saturday, giving her a two-game total of 36 points. She also added seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals to help the Saints win both conference contests.

She is the first Saints’ player since the 2003-2004 season to reach 1,000 points.

Wolff and the rest of the Saints, who are 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League, will take on the Clarkson Golden Knights Tuesday night in Burkman Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm. The game will be webcasted via North Country Sports Net (www.northcountrysports.net).

SAINTS’ STRONG FIRST HALF PUSHES THEM PAST UNION, 62-47

Jan. 19: The first half proved to be key for the St. Lawrence women’s basketball team, who came out victorious over Liberty League opponent Union College Saturday afternoon, as the Saints’ strong defense was able to hold off the Dutchwomen, 62-47, in Burkman Gymnasium.

St. Lawrence forced Union to turn the ball over 14 times in the first 20 minutes and took advantage of those additional scoring opportunities by tallying 14 points off of the visiting team’s errors to help propel St. Lawrence into a significant lead in the first part of the game.

The Scarlet and Brown kept Union scoreless in the first six minutes while scoring six points of their own, and permanently increased their lead to double-digits with seven minutes to go in the first. The Saints were impressive defensively, as they were able to maintain possession and control the flow of the game while allowing minimal Union scoring opportunities, allowing only 18 shots in the period.

Junior guard Lauren Sischo (Rodman, NY/South Jefferson) led the Saints’ offense in the first half, scoring all 13 of her points in the contest in the first 20 minutes, including an exciting last second three-pointer from mid-court at the buzzer to push the Saints ahead 35-15 to end the period.

The second half saw the contest between the two teams become much more equal, as Union showed the Saints they were able to bounce back from a 20-point deficit by edging them 32-27 in the last half of the game. But the continuous hard work of the Saints both offensively and defensively kept the Dutchwomen from making a substantial comeback, and took home their tenth win in a row and their 12 th victory of the season, winning the game, 62-47.

Senior guard and co-captain Jamie Wolff ( Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) who reached 1,000 career points in yesterday’s conference opener over Skidmore, led the Saints once again with a game-high 14 points, one assist and five rebounds. In addition to Sischo, junior Jenna Krzemien ( Springville, NY/Springville) also tallied double-digits, coming away with 12 points and six rebounds.

Senior co-captain Kim Sikule (Westerlo, NY/Berne-Knox Westerlo) had nine rebounds for the Saints, as well adding seven points and a game-high four steals to help the Saints to victory.

St. Lawrence, now 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League, will face North Country rival Clarkson on Tuesday night. The game, which will be held in Burkman Gymnasium, is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.

WOLFF REACHES 1,000 POINTS;

LEADS SAINTS IN WIN OVER SKIDMORE, 71-37

Jan. 18: Senior guard and co-captain Jamie Wolff tallied her 1,000th career point Friday night as she led the St. Lawrence University women’s basketball team to a 71-37 win over Liberty League opponent Skidmore College in Burkman Gymnasium.

It was no surprise that Wolff (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), who scored a game-high 22 points against the Thoroughbreds, used her innate ability to sink shots from the three-point range to achieve the milestone, as she made her fifth three-pointer of the game with 4:11 left on the clock. Wolff is the first person since the 2003-2004 season to achieve 1,000 career points.

The game marks the eighth contest Wolff has led the Saints in total points so far this season, as well as her fifth game with more than 20 points.

The first part of the game proved to be slow going for both teams, as they were each plagued with missed shots as they adjusted to each other’s playing techniques. The Saints took an early lead, but Skidmore was able to keep it a one possession game and tied it up three times before the Scarlet and Brown went on a 10-0 run.

The Saints posted two consecutive three-pointers, one from junior Katie Palmer (Bourne, MA/Falmouth Academy) from the top of the key and the other from senior co-captain Kim Sikule (Westerlo, NY/Berne-Knox Westerlo) to give the Saints an 18-10 lead with 7:30 left before halftime. Palmer followed with a shot from within the paint and junior Jenna Krzemien ( Springville, NY/Springville) made a lay-up to give the Saints a 22-10 advantage. St. Lawrence continued to move the ball well and pour on the pressure as the half ended with the Saints ahead of the Thoroughbreds, 32-15.

In the second half, St. Lawrence improved on almost every part of their game, as they were 52-percent from the field and an outstanding 55-percent from three-point range. The home team was able to use their momentum from the first half to more than double their lead, as they walked off the court with a 71-37 victory.

Palmer also posted impressive numbers, tallying 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. The forward was 6-for-10 from the floor and made 2 out of 3 shots from beyond the arc.

Sikule also posted in the double digits with 11 points to help the Saints’ effort, while also accumulating three rebounds and three steals. Krzemien had a game-high five steals.

The Saints, now 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League, will look to extend their nine-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon as they host the Union Dutchwomen. The game is set to begin at 2:00pm.
