PRIDGEN MAKES ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM IN SLU LOSS No. 20: Brooklyn Pickle Classic Most Valuable Player Francesca Payne scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Le Moyne to a 54-32 win over St. Lawrence at Grant Court. Payne scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the classic's two games.
Le Moyne overcame a sluggish start to take a 26-14 lead into the intermission. Neither team scored before Payne put the Dolphins on the board at the 15:33 mark. Kelly O'Brien placed St. Lawrence in the scoring column when she made it 4-2 with 14:45 left in the opening half. Le Moyne opened up a 15-point edge on two first-half occasions, the first coming on a Lindsay Carr fastbreak layup with 4:05 remaining.
The Dolphins opened the second half with another suffocating defensive effort. Le Moyne outscored the Saints 10-0 over the first 3:49 and caused six turnovers to take a 36-14 edge with 16:11 remaining. The Dolphins opened up their biggest lead, a 27-point edge on an Andrea Pluchino with 2:12 remaining. Carr, who joined Payne on the all-tournament team, scored 13 points and topped the team with five steals. Junior Maureen Van Vorst pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to help Le Moyne to a 46-30 edge on the glass, 23-8 on the offensive end. The Dolphins forced the Saints into 16 of their 27 turnovers in the second half.
Meredith Pridgen and Jessica Zuk led St. Lawrence with six points each. Pridgen was named to the all-tournament team. ST. ROSE TOPS ST. LAWRENCE 75-59 IN OPENING ROUND OF BROOKLYN PICKLE CLASSIC Nov. 19: Sophomore Mary Lewis scored 24 points to lead Saint Rose to a 75-59 win over St. Lawrence in the nightcap of the Brooklyn Pickle Classic played at Liverpool High School. The women's basketball classic format tournament concludes tomorrow at Le Moyne College.
Senior forward Meredith Pridgen netted 16 in a losing effort for the Saints (0-1). Lindsey Onishuk scored 12 points and Petra Kulhankova scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Golden Knights (2-0).
Tomorrow, Saint Rose plays Nyack at 3 p.m. and Le Moyne hosts St. Lawrence at 5 p.m.
