MUSZYNSKI, GAETANO ARE LIBERTY LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Feb. 9: Andrea Muszynski (left) and Brittany Gaetano have been named the Liberty League Co-Forward and Co-Guard of the week, respectively, for their efforts against RPI and Vassar.
Muszynski scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against RPI. She went 8 of 12 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the free throw line in the Saint win. She also added 2 steals, an assist, and a block. Against Vassar, Muszynski scored 8 points and contributed 7 boards. She had 5 steals, 2 assists, and a blocked shot.
Gaetano (left) scored 19 points against RPI, including 4 three pointers to help the Saints earn their 6th conference win of the year. She also had 4 steals and 3 assists. Against Vassar, Gaetano scored 9 points and added 4 assists.
SAINTS BEST VASSAR, 60-51 Feb. 5: The St. Lawrence women’s basketball team beat Vassar today at Burkman Gymnasium to improve to 11-7 on the year, 7-2 in conference. With the loss, Vassar falls to 5-14 overall, and 1-8 in the Liberty League.
Meredith Pridgen started the scoring for the Saints with a jumper at 18:54. The Saints would not give the lead to the Brewers for the remainder of the half. At the half, the score was 26-19 in favor of SLU. Pridgen had scored 8 points on 4 field goals. She would finish with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Andrea Muszynski had scored 6 points on 3 field goals at the half, and finished with 8 points.
SLU controlled play for the entire second half, never leading by less than 6 points. First year Jamie Wolff scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and stole two Vassar chances. On the night, the Saints shot almost 42% from the field, and 25% from behind the arc.
For Vassar, Meredith McGair scored 15 points, including 9 free throws, and contributed 3 steals. Natalie Serkowski scored 13 points, and grabbed 4 rebounds.
The Saints will play Clarkson Tuesday night at home at 6:00 pm.
MUSZYNSKI LEADS SAINTS TO 72-58 WIN OVER RPI Feb. 4: Andrea Muszynski led the St. Lawrence women’s basketball team to a 72-58 win over RPI tonight in Burkman Gymnasium. Her 21 points and 11 total rebounds led the Saints to their 10th win on the year. With the win, SLU improves to 10-7 on the year, 6-2 in conference. RPI falls to 7-10 overall, and 5-3 in the Liberty League.
The visiting Red Hawks started the game by going up by 3. In the first half, the score went back and forth. The Saints were up by as many as 6 before surrendering the lead. With 7:04 left in the half, SLU took the lead and did not give it back. They ended the first half up by 13, with the score 44-31. With just under 14 minutes to play, RPI cut the lead to 2, but the Saints pulled away for the victory, finally ending the game up by 14. Muszynski shot 8-12 from the floor and 5-6 from the line. Brittany Gaetano scored 19 on the night, sinking 4 three pointers, and making 5 of 6 from the line. Jess Zuk had 6 points on two 3 pointers, and 6 assists.
For RPI, Kaitlyn Saunders scored 21 points, going 6-9 from the floor and 9-14 from the stripe, and grabbed 9 rebounds. Tory Lyons scored 11 points and had 8 boards.
SLU faces off against Vassar tomorrow afternoon at home at 2:00 pm.
