WOLFF EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

 

Jan. 27: First year Jamie Wolff earned Liberty League Co-Guard of the Week honors for her performances against RPI and Vassar. She is sharing the honor with Clarkson's Linda Fernandez.

 

Wolff scored 22 points and shot 8-15 from the field to lead SLU to a 69-62 overtime win over RPI. She made 2 clutch shots with less than a minute remaining to tie the game for the Saints. In overtime, she sank a three-pointer and was 4 of 4 from the line to help SLU clench the win. Wolff also scored 9 points and contributed 6 rebounds against Vassar.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FIRST YEAR JAMIE WOLFF LEADS SAINTS IN OVERTIME WIN

 

Jan. 22: First year Jamie Wolff (left) scored 22 points and shot 8-15 from the field to lead SLU to a 69-62 overtime win over RPI. This win is the Saints fourth straight, and puts them at 7-6 on the year, 3-1 in the Liberty League. RPI falls to 5-9 overall, 3-2 in conference.

 

Wolff made 2 clutch shots with less than a minute remaining to tie the game for the Saints. In overtime, she sank a three-pointer and was 4 of 4 from the line to help SLU clinch the win.

 

Nora Curley started and scored 12 points in the win. Andrea Muszynski came off the bench and played 27 minutes, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to be the high rebounder for the game.

 

For RPI, Kaitlyn Saunders scored 17 points, and contributed 5 steals. Kristi Baranowski scored 10 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and stole 4 balls. Amy Morin scored 13 points in the losing effort.

 

The Saints are back in action at Clarkson on January 25 th at 6:00 pm.

 

 

ST. LAWRENCE DEFEATS VASSAR, 61-24

Jan. 21: Senior forward Kelly O'Brien (left) scored 11 points and pulled down 6 rebounds to lead St. Lawrence (5-6, 2-1 Liberty League) past Vassar (4-9, 0-4 Liberty League) 61-24, in Liberty League Women's basketball action Friday night at the New Athletic and Fitness Center.

St. Lawrence opened the game with a strong shooting performance, jumping out to a 19-4 lead in the game first 10 minutes. Sophomore guard Brittany Gaetano was particularly effective, hitting 2-of-3 from three-point range.

St. Lawrence's shooters eventually fell cold, finishing the half with a 39 percent shooting percentage. However, a swarming defense prevented Vassar from establishing any offensive rhythm in the first half, and the Brewers trailed 27-8 at halftime.

In the second half, the inside plays of sophomore center Rachel Cerlen and the outside shooting of Melissa Jones helped Vassar double its first half point total.

St. Lawrence also picked up its offensive game, using the powerful inside play of O'Brien and 8-for-11 free throw shooting to keep the game from ever getting close.

The Saints will play at Rensselaer Saturday at 2:00 pm. Rensselaer entered their game with Clarkson on Friday with a record of 5-7 overall, 2-1 in the Liberty League.

 

 

PRIDGEN’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE HELPS

LEAD SAINTS PAST PLATTSBURGH

Jan. 18: The St. Lawrence women’s basketball team beat Plattsburgh tonight 68-54 in a mid-week, non-conference game. Meredith Pridgen (left) scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots in the win. The victory gives the Saints a 5-6 overall record. With the loss, the Cardinals move to 4-9 on the year.

 

St. Lawrence led by as many as 10 points in the first half with the score at 26-16 with 6:26 left. At halftime, the score was 32-27 in favor of the home team. For the first half, Plattsburgh was shooting almost 45% from the field. The Saints shot 40%, and over 23% from behind the arc. Christie Herbst was 4-7 from the floor, and 2-4 from 3 point range. Plattsburgh’s Athena DiLorenzo led all rebounders in the first half with 5.

 

SLU did not trail in the second half, and they led by as many as 16. On the night, Herbst scored 16 points, shot 6-12 from the floor, and made 3 three pointers. Kelly O’Brien scored 15 points, shot 5-9 from the floor, and made 5-6 free throws. She also had a game high 3 steals.

 

For the Cardinals, Laura Phillips scored 18 points, and grabbed a team high 7 rebounds. She was 6 of 8 from the floor, and 6-6 from the stripe. Lynette Cray ended the night with 12 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals. She shot 6-14 from the floor.

 

The Saints will play at Vassar (4-8; 0-3) this Friday at 6:00 pm. They will play at Rensselaer Saturday at 2:00 pm. Rensselaer will enter their game with Clarkson on Friday with a record of 5-7 overall, 2-1 in the Liberty League.
