EISENHUT, LEARY HONORED BY ECAC (March 19): The ECAC conference announced the Division III Women's Upstate All-Star team earlier this week and Meredith Eisenhut and Nicole Leary were among those honored. Eisenhut, a junior guard, was named to the first team, while Leary, a junior forward, made the honorable mention list. Eisenhut (left, with ball), who was named the UCAA Player of the Year, led the Saints in scoring and earned her career 1000th point for the Saints this season. She averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds each game, to go along with 95 steals and 83 assists. Leary was the team's second leading scorer with 9.8 points per game. She also hauled in 5.3 rebounds in each contest and blocked 55 shots playing in all 28 games for St. Lawrence. RED DRAGONS EDGE SAINTS (Feb. 28): The Cortland women's basketball team used the last three minutes of regulation to post a 62-60 edging of host St. Lawrence in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Wednesday. The Red Dragons are now 26-2 and will play at Oneonta State on Saturday. The Saints, meanwhile, close out the season at 23-5 overall. Cortland jumped out to an early lead in the first half of play, and held that lead until 3:37 remained in the half. Aliza Bogdanich and Meredith Eisenhut combined for six unanswered points to tie the game 19-19. A Megan Dietrichsen layup would then claim the lead for the Saints, who held on for a 24-23 halftime advantage. St. Lawrence got off to a strong start to begin the second half, but Cortland quickly closed the gap and hung around to reclaim the lead about midway through on two made free throws by Kate Smith. The two teams then exchanged field goals, as well as the lead, right down to the 4:00 minute mark. Another made free throw by Smith would make it 53-52 Cortland, but Nicole Leary answered for the Saints with a 20-foot jump shot. Erin Egan then hit a three-point field goal to put Cortland up 56-54. Eisenhut was fouled on the other end, and hit one of two free throws for the Saints. Another layup by Smith and a free throw by Amy Wood put the Red Dragons ahead by four points with 21 seconds left and the Saints were forced to foul in attempt to catch up. Meredith Eisenhut made a layup with 16 ticks left on the clock, but Noelle Picone iced two free throws for Cortland. The Saints missed a field goal attempt on their end and Smith would hit one of two free throws for Cortland with five seconds remaining. Lauren Foran hit a three-point field goal at the buzzer, making the final score 62-60. Smith led all scorers with 17 points. She also ripped down 11 rebounds. Wood scored 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists and collected four steals. Picone went six-for-six from the foul line to go along with three field goals for 12 points. Jen Knox, who fouled out with five minutes to go, scored eight points and dished out five assists. Bogdanich led the Saints with 12 points. Foran finished with 10 points. Jen Janeway grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out three assists and collected four steals. SAINTS AWARDED NCAA BERTH IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Feb. 25: St. Lawrence University's women's basketball team will appear in the NCAA Division III tournament for the third straight year as bids were announced late Sunday evening. The Saints, 23-4, were upset in the championship game of the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association tournament by Rensselaer on Saturday, but were awarded an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament and will host 25-2 Cortland Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Burkman Gymnasium. Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students with ID and children under five are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling 315-229-5421 or purchased at the Augsbury Physical Education Center during normal business hours. They will also be available at the door. The winner of Wednesday's St. Lawrence-Cortland game will advance to play at Oneonta State, 26-1, in a game scheduled for Saturday. The Saints, who earned a spot in the Elite Eight last season and were regional champions, are 47-10 over the last two seasons and do not have a senior on the roster. RED HAWKS USE LATE GAME RALLY TO UPSET SAINTS IN UCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (Feb. 24): The Rensselaer women's basketball posted a 69-64 come from behind win over number one seed St. Lawrence in Saturday's UCAA Championship game. They improve to 23-4 overall with the win and receive the automatic berth into next week's NCAA Tournament. The Red Hawks led the Saints for the majority of the first half, but with just over a minute left on the clock, Lauren Foran cut to the basket and was hit by Sarah Kloepfer for a layup to tie the game. Foran was also fouled on the shot. She made her free throw to give the Saints their first lead since early in regulation. The Saints stopped Rensselaer on the other end and Jen Janeway hit a three-point field goal to ultimately give St. Lawrence a 33-29 advantage at halftime. St. Lawrence came out strong in the second half, jumping out to a 44-35 lead in the first five minutes of play. They extended that lead to as much as 15 points, but midway through the half, Rensselaer went on a 13-0 run to cut the Saint lead to 55-53. Megan Dietrichsen's layup made it 57-53, but Rensselaer's Karen Wood answered with two made free throws to spark 7-0 run by the Red Hawks that would give them a 61-57 lead over St. Lawrence. The Saints got two free throws from Nicole Leary, a layup from Aliza Bogdanich and free throw by Meredith Eisenhut to go back up 62-61. Kristen Campbell answered for the Red Hawks, hitting two-for-two from the foul line, making it 63-62 Rensselaer. Foran's made layup would give the Saints a 64-63 lead with 1:07 to go. Both teams turned the ball over on the next two possessions. Karen Wood scored a layup and two free throws following a turnover by the Saints and St. Lawrence would be forced to take a timeout with the Red Hawks in a 67-64 advantage. After the inbounds pass, a Saint player stumbled and lost the ball, which was picked up by Rensselaer's Holly Neiweem. Neiweem was sent to the foul line with just two seconds on the clock. She iced both free throws to secure the 69-64 victory. Wood, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, finished the game with 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Neiweem added 15 points, including two-for-two from three-point range, and was named to the All-Tournament team. Kristen Campbell, who was also named to the All-Tournament team, chipped in 13 points and four rebounds. Kristen Kaczynski went two-for-two from three-point range and tallied 10 points for the Red Hawks. Meredith Eisenhut, Nicole Leary and Jen Janeway each scored 10 points for St. Lawrence. Eisenhut also added three assists and three steals. She was named to the All-Tournament team. Leary added six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Janeway chipped in four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Cara Barbierri, who joined Eisenhut on the All-Tournament team, contributed seven points, three assists and one blocked shot. Union's Heather Bennett and William Smith's Leah Cornwell were named to the All-Tournament team as well. SAINTS RE-GROUP FOR SECOND HALF VICTORY (Feb. 23): The St. Lawrence women's basketball team got off to a slow start in Friday's UCAA Semifinal game, but re-grouped at halftime and made a late rally to break away with a 61-47 win over William Smith. The Saints will host Rensselaer in the championship game at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. The Saints got on the board first, but William Smith went on an 11-0 run early in the game, sparked by a three-pointer by Jeanne Marie Vinchiarello, to find themselves in a 20-8 lead. Cara Barbierri answered for St. Lawrence, coming off the bench to score the Saints' next 12 points, going five-for-five in a four minute span to bring the Saints back to within two points. The Herons held on to the lead however, going into halftime with a 26-25 advantage. The Saints came out in the second half to regain the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of play. This time they held on to it for good. They broke away from the Herons with about 3:30 left to in the game by extending their lead to double digits. Meredith Eisenhut led the Saints with 19 points, six rebounds and five steals. Barbierri finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds. Megan Dietrichsen chipped in nine points and six rebounds. Laura Hadwin led William Smith with 14 points and eight rebounds. Leah Cornwell added nine points and 11 rebounds before fouling out of the game. EISENHUT NAMED UCAA PLAYER OF YEAR; LEARY AND JANEWAY JOIN HER ON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM (Feb. 23): The UCAA conference announced the 2000-01 All-Conference team this morning and three Saint players were among those honored. Junior guard Meredith Eisenhut was named the Player of the Year and also made the first team All-Conference list. Eisenhut is the Saint's leading scorer and earned her 1000th career point at St. Lawrence in last week's game against William Smith. She averages 11.6 points per game, to go along with 4.9 rebounds. Eisenhut has also compiled 75 assists and 85 steals on the season. Junior forward Nicole Leary joins Eisenhut on the first team. Leary averages 10.0 points and 5.2 rebounds. She has blocked 51 shots in 25 games and has also amassed 54 assists and 32 steals. Jen Janeway, a junior forward, was named to the Honorable Mention list. Janeway's well-rounded contributions for the Saints include 6.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals each game. The Saints will host William Smith at 6:00 p.m. this evening in the UCAA Semifinals. SAINTS DOWN SKIDMORE IN UCAA QUARTERFINAL (Feb. 20): Five St. Lawrence players reached double digits in scoring as the Saints cruised to a 84-49 win over Skidmore in Tuesday's UCAA Quarterfinal matchup. The Saints improve to 22-3 overall with the win, while the Thoroughbreds finish the season at 8-17 overall. The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and held a 37-24 advantage at halftime. They out-rebounded Skidmore 38-24 and forced 19 turnovers by the Thoroughbreds. Cara Barbierri led the way for the Saints, with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sarah Kloepfer went five for seven from the field and four for six from the foul line to add 14 points. Katie Griffith chipped in 12 points, including a perfect three for three from three-point range. Griffith also picked up three steals. Nicole Leary put up 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Aliza Bogdanich also scored 10 points. Megan Lawler led Skidmore with 19 points. Sarah McEachron added 15 points and eight rebounds. Jodi Wheeler dished out eight assists. The Saints will host the winner of William Smith and Vassar on Friday. EISENHUT NAMED UCAA GUARD OF WEEK (Feb. 20): Junior guard Meredith Eisenhut was named the UCAA Guard of the Week for her efforts in the final week of the regular season. Eisenhut had sat out the two weeks prior with an injury. She returned to action to help lead the Saints past Hamilton and William Smith. In a 70-54 win over Hamilton, she scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and collected two steals. Eisenhut followed that performance with 21 points, including her career 1000th, five rebounds, five assists and six steals in a 80-50 win over William Smith. SAINTS EARN TOP SEED, WILL HOST SKIDMORE (Feb. 18): The women's basketball team earned the top seed for the UCAA conference tournament, finishing the regular season at 21-3 overall (12-2 UCAA). They will host number eight seed Skidmore at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The semifinals and finals are set for Friday and Saturday, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. EISENHUT SCORES 1000TH CAREER POINT (Feb. 17): St. Lawrence junior guard Meredith Eisenhut scored her career 1000th point for the Saints, who rolled to a 80-50 win over William Smith in their final game of the regular season. The play was set up by Nicole Leary, who hit Eisenhut cutting to the basket just five minutes into the game. The Saints finish the regular season at 21-3 overall (12-2 UCAA). William Smith close out the season at 14-9 overall (8-6 UCAA). The Saints jumped out to a 37-22 lead at halftime and did not allow a field goal by the Herons for the first 10 minutes of the second half. They also forced the Herons to make 21 team turnovers. Eisenhut finished the game with 21 points, five assists and six rebounds. She shot seven-for-eight from the field, including two-for-two from three-point range, and five-for-six from the foul line. Cara Barbierri also had an outstanding shooting day. She went five-for-six from the field, including a perfect four-of-four from three-point range and a perfect two-of-two from the foul line to add 16 points. Barbierri also blocked three shots. Aliza Bogdanich chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds. Laura Hadwin led the Herons with 13 points. Leah Cornwell and Briana Tindall each chipped in 10 points, with Cornwell dishing out four assists. SAINTS EASE PAST HAMILTON (Feb. 16): Nicole Leary scored 13 points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Saints to a 70-54 victory over Hamilton on Friday evening. The Saints improve to 20-3 overall and 11-2 in the UCAA conference with the win, while Hamilton falls to 9-13 overall (4-8 UCAA). The Saints, who led 37-29 at halftime, forced Hamilton to shoot just 25% from the field. They shot a steady 45% from the field of their own to maintain and extend the lead in the second half of play. Cara Barbierri chipped in 12 points and three assists for St. Lawrence. Meredith Eisenhut, who returned to action after missing two weeks of play due to an injury, scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. Eisenhut is just one point away from her career 1000th point. Jen Janeway grabbed seven rebounds for the Saints, while Megan Dietrichsen blocked three shots. Jenny Russell was the only Hamilton player to reach double digits in scoring. She led Hamilton with 12 points. Holly Erick chipped in seven rebounds. The Saints will host William Smith at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in their final game of the regular season. BOGDANICH LEADS SAINTS PAST UNION (Feb. 10): St. Lawrence freshman reserve Aliza Bogdanich scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Saints to a 75-55 win over Union on Saturday. Bogdanich went six-for-eight from the floor and nine-for-10 from the free throw line. The Saints improve to 19-3 overall and 10-2 in the UCAA conference with the win. The Dutchwomen fall to 16-6 overall (8-3 UCAA). The Saints took an early 8-0 lead and found themselves with a 37-18 advantage at halftime. They held Union to just three field goals and a .130 shooting percentage from the field in the first half of play. St. Lawrence ran into a bit of foul trouble in the second half, but managed to maintain a comfortable lead and hold on for the victory. Cara Barbierri finished the game with 14 points, six assists and four steals for the Saints. Katie Griffith chipped in 11 points, including a perfect five-for-five performance from the free throw line. Megan Dietrichsen added 10 points. Jen Janeway grabbed eight rebounds and collected five steals. Katie Smith, who went 11-for-12 from the foul line, led Union with 15 points. Heather Bennett added 12 points and six rebounds. Erin McNamara chipped in 11 points and four assists. The Saints will host Hamilton and William Smith on Friday and Saturday in their final two games of the regular season. SAINTS DOWN SKIDMORE (Feb. 9): Junior guard Cara Barbierri went seven-for-11 from the field, including two-for-two from three point range, to score 17 points and lead the Saints to a 66-29 conference victory over Skidmore on Friday. The Saints improve to 18-3 overall and 9-2 in the UCAA. Skidmore drops to 5-15 overall (0-10 UCAA). The Saints jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and never looked back. They forced Skidmore to shoot just 19% from the field in the first half and 21% at the end of regulation. Holding a 32-13 advantage at halftime, the Saints out-rebounded the Thoroughbreds 47-32 and forced 25 turnovers by Skidmore. Katie Griffith added 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals for the Saints. Sarah Kloepfer chipped in eight points and five assists. Megan Dietrichsen pulled down 11 rebounds, while Nicole Leary blocked four shots. Not a single Skidmore player reached double-digits in scoring. Jodi Wheeler led the way with eight points. Sarah McEachron grabbed 10 rebounds. RENSSELAER HANDS SAINTS SECOND LOSS (Feb. 3): After suffering a two-point loss to Vassar on Friday evening, the Saints were handed another conference defeat by host Rensselaer on Saturday. With the 57-48 victory, the Red Hawks earn a UCAA conference first-place tie with the Saints. Both teams shot well, but defensively, Rensselaer out-rebounded St. Lawrence 41-23. The Red Hawks held a 24-18 lead at halftime. Melissa Coppola led all scorers with 20 points for the Red Hawks. She also pulled down 11 rebounds. Teammate Kristen Kaczynski added 11 points. Jen Janeway led the Saints with 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and six steals. Janeway was the only Saint player to reach double digits in scoring. Sarah Kloepfer tied Janeway's team-high four rebounds. The Saints, who were without starting point guard Meredith Eisenhut, now stand at 17-3 overall and 8-2 in the UCAA conference. SAINTS WIN STREAK COMES TO HAULT (Feb. 2): A 17-game win streak by the Saint women's basketball team came to an end on Friday, when host Vassar College pulled off a 65-63 victory. The loss marked just the second of the season for St. Lawrence, who is now 17-2 overall and 8-1 in the UCAA conference. Vassar improves to 12-5 overall (3-5 UCAA) with the win. Vassar built a 19-point first half lead and held a 42-33 advantage at halftime. The Saints opened the second half of play with a 10-0 run to close the gap and a Nicole Leary field goal would give St. Lawrence their first lead of regulation with just 2:13 to go. Lisa Ercolano hit both ends of a one-and-one situation and teammate Lauren Nishamura added a layup to return a four-point lead to Vassar with under a minute left. Jen Janeway quickly cut the lead back to two, on a layup of her own. Katie Griffith then came up with a big steal and dished the ball to Leary, who was fouled. Leary made just one of two from the line. Bea Milligan was then fouled and made one-of-two to secure what would be the upset victory for Vassar. Ercolano led all scorers with 20 points. Carleen Aubee added 19 points, while Nishimura chipped in 11 for Vassar. Leary finished the game with 19 points. Aliza Bogdanich chipped in 12, while Megan Dietrichsen added 10 for the Saints. SAINTS EASE PAST OSWEGO (Jan. 30): The St. Lawrence women's basketball team earned their 17th consecutive win with a 94-59 thrashing of Oswego College in Tuesday's non-conference game. The Saints, who were without the services of leading scorer Meredith Eisenhut, are now 17-1 overall. They remain 8-0 in UCAA conference play. Oswego falls to 3-12 overall with the loss. It appeared as if the Lakers were going to give the Saints a run for their money, as they stayed within three points for much of the first half of regulation. At the 11:15 mark however, Jen Janeway sparked a 9-0 run for the Saints and it was smooth sailing from that point on. The Saints led the Lakers 41-28 at halftime. They forced 20 Oswego turnovers in the first half and nine more in the second half. A tight defense also led to a 45-35 rebounding advantage for the Saints, who shot 51% from the field and 83% from the free throw line as a team. Janeway finished the game with a double-double for St. Lawrence. She led all rebounders with 10, in addition to collecting 10 assists. Nicole Leary led the team in scoring with 22 points. Leary also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots. Aliza Bogdanich went six-of-eight from the floor and eight-for-nine from the foul line to add 20 points. Cara Barbierri and Sarah Kloepfer chipped in 15 and 14 points, respectively. Katie Griffith picked up five steals. Lara Jones led Oswego with 11 points and four steals. Janelle Hulbert added eight points and eight rebounds. The Saints, still ranked 6th nationally by D3news, will travel to Vassar and Rensselaer on Friday and Saturday. SAINTS DOWN WILLIAM SMITH; (Jan 27): Junior guard Meredith Eisenhut was the lone Saint player to reach double-digits in scoring on Saturday. She posted 15 points to lead the team to a 56-41 victory over William Smith, which was their 16th consecutive win this season. In addition, the 15 points put Eisenhut just 11 points away from her 1000th career point at St. Lawrence. The Saints, who led the Herons 30-18 at halftime, improve to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in UCAA conference play. William Smith falls to 11-5 overall (5-2 UCAA). The Herons shot just 20% from the field and committed 26 team turnovers throughout regulation. Eisenhut's 15 points were accompanied by nine rebounds and five steals. Lauren Foran added nine points for the Saints, while Nicole Leary chipped in seven points and six rebounds. Leah Cornwell led the Herons with 13 points and nine rebounds. ST. LAWRENCE CONTINUES TO ROLL (Jan. 26): Lauren Foran and Nicole Leary each chipped in 17 as the Saints rolled to an 18-point win over Hamilton College, 73-55, on Friday night. Despite shooting just 39.4 percent in the game, four Saints scorers posted double-digits. Foran hit 6-8 from the field, including 2-2 from beyond the arc to collect her 17 in just 21 minutes of play. Leary hit on 8-15 shooting and ahad three blocked shots. Aliza Bogdanich chipped in with a 11 points on 5-7 shooting while Cara Barbierri dropped in 10 points. St. Lawrence held Hamilton to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field and had 12 blocked shots. Hamilton also turned the ball over 28 times in the game. SAINTS DOMINATE CLARKSON IN 14th CONSECUTIVE WIN (Jan. 23): The St. Lawrence women's basketball team posted a 74-36 thrashing over arch-rival Clarkson University to collect their school-best 14th consecutive victory. The Saints, now 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the UCAA conference, have not lost a game since their season opener against Babson in November. The Golden Knights, meanwhile, fall to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the UCAA conference. The Saints jumped out to an early lead in the first half, that was extended by 10-plus points on back-to-back three point field goals by Cara Barbierri. The Saints never looked back from that point on, taking a 40-19 lead at halftime. Turnovers and a poor shooting performance by the Golden Knights were also key contributors to the lop-sided score. Clarkson shot just 25% from the field and 35% from the free throw line. They also committed 26 turnovers. The Saints, meanwhile, shot 45% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line. Meredith Eisenhut led the Saints with 19 points, including a perfect two-for-two performance from three-point range. Eisenhut also pulled down nine rebounds, collected seven steals and dished out four assists. Barbierri finished the game with 12 points and four assists. Nicole Leary chipped in eight points and six rebounds. Jen Janeway dished out six assists and collected four steals. The Golden Knights were led by Heather Dority, who scored 10 points and collected three steals. Patty McTigue grabbed nine rebounds for Clarkson. The Saints will travel to Hamilton and William Smith on Friday and Saturday for two more conference games. SAINTS RANKED 6TH NATIONALLY BY D3 HOOPS (Jan. 23): In the most recent poll put out by D3 Hoops, the St. Lawrence women's basketball team was ranked 6th nationally among Division III institutions. The Saints, now 13-1 overall, follow Washington University, George Fox, St. Thomas, New York University and Cortland State on the list. SAINTS CONTINUE TO ROLL WITH WIN OVER RENSSELAER (Jan. 20): The women's basketball team cruised to a 82-51 UCAA conference victory over visiting Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon. Both teams entered the contest unbeaten in conference play and the Saints prevailed, improving to 13-1 overall and 5-0 UCAA. Rensselaer falls to 10-3 overall (4-1 UCAA) with the loss. The Saints, who led 40-24 at halftime, shot an impressive 53% from the field and 83% from the free throw line. They also forced 26 turnovers by Rensselaer. Six Saint players reached double digits in scoring. Megan Dietrichsen led the way with 14 points. Dietrichsen also grabbed five rebounds. Katie Griffith had a perfect shooting day to chip in 13 points. Griffith went four-for-four from both the field and the free throw line. She also tallied six rebounds. Aliza Bogdanich chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. Meredith Eisenhut added 11 points. Nicole Leary and Jen Janeway each scored 10 points, with Janeway adding six assists and six steals. Melissa Coppola scored 13 points and collected nine rebounds to lead Rensselaer. Holly Neiweem chipped in 11 points. The Saints will host arch-rival Clarkson University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in another UCAA conference matchup. FORAN LEADS SAINTS IN DOWNING OF VASSAR (Jan. 19): St. Lawrence reserve guard Lauren Foran shot a perfect five-for-five from the field on Friday night to lead the Saints to a 85-45 victory over Vassar College. With the win, the Saints improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the UCAA conference. Vassar, meanwhile, falls to 8-4 overall (0-3 UCAA). Vassar took an early lead to open the game, but the Saints battled back and led 33-23 at halftime. They held the Brewers scoreless for an eight minute stretch toward the end of the first half and then again to open the second half of play. Rebounding was another key factor in the 40-point margin. The Saints pulled down 53 boards to Vassar's 21. In addition, the Saints shot 46% from the field, while Vassar shot 32%. Foran finished the game with 12 points, two assists and two steals. Megan Dietrichsen and Caisey Jefferson each added 11 points. Dietrichsen pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and blocked five shots, while Jefferson grabbed six rebounds. Nicole Leary chipped in 10 points and two blocked shots. Jen Janeway collected five assists, while Katie Griffith made three steals. Bea Milligan was the only Vassar player to score in the double digits. She tallied 10 points to lead the Brewers. Carleen Aubee pulled down five rebounds. The Saints will entertain Rensselaer at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. Both teams are unbeaten in UCAA conference play. SAINTS WIN 11th STRAIGHT (Jan. 16): The women's basketball team collected their 11th consecutive victory with a 58-48 non-conference win over visiting Plattsburgh on Tuesday evening. The Saints are now 12-1 overall and remain 3-0 in the UCAA conference. Plattsburgh falls to 7-6 with the loss. The Saints, who held a 31-21 halftime advantage, were led by Megan Dietrichsen. Dietrichsen scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Jen Janeway added 11 points, five assists and two steals. Nicole Leary chipped in 10 points and blocked four shots. Meredith Eisenhut notched nine points, seven assists and seven steals. The Saints forced 30 turnovers by Plattsburgh, who shot just 29% from the field. Scottie Rovito, Erin Hutchinson and Jana Rhude each scored eight points for the Cardinals. Heidi Gifford pulled down 10 rebounds. The Saints will host Vassar and Rensselaer on Friday and Saturday. EISENHUT NAMED UCAA GUARD OF THE WEEK (Jan. 16): St. Lawrence junior Meredith Eisenhut was named this week's UCAA conference Guard of the Week for her efforts in conference games against Skidmore and Union. The Saints won both games to remain unbeaten in the UCAA at 3-0. They are 10-1 overall. Eisenhut contributed 12 points, five assists and four steals in a 64-33 victory over Skidmore. She followed that performance up with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and seven steals in a 54-53 win over Union. Eisenhut currently leads the UCAA conference in both steals and assists. She is averaging 4.7 and 3.9 per game, respectively. Teammate Megan Dietrichsen joins Eisenhut as a conference leader. Her 32 blocked shots this season are a UCAA best. The Saints host Plattsburgh at 6:00 p.m. this evening. They will host Vassar and Rensselaer at 6:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. LEARY HELPS SAINTS SURVIVE CLOSE CALL WITH UNION (Jan. 13): Host Union College led St. Lawrence by six points at halftime and held Saint center Megan Dietrichsen scoreless throughout regulation, but the Saints managed to walk away with a 54-53 victory in Saturday's UCAA conference matchup. With the win, they improve to 10-1 overall and remain unbeaten at 3-0 in the UCAA. Union, meanwhile, falls to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the UCAA. Both teams shot poorly from the field, at just 30% overall. It may have been St. Lawrence's performance from the free throw line that made the one-point difference. The Saints were a perfect six-for-six in the first half and missed just four of eleven attempts in the second half. Union finished the game at 15-33 from the line. Nicole Leary had an outstanding afternoon to lead the Saints. She shot nine for ten from the field and a perfect two-for-two from the foul line to collect 20 points. Leary also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and made two steals. Aliza Bogdanich chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds, while Meredith Eisenhut added 11 points, four assists and seven steals. Eisenhut was also perfect from the foul line, going six-for-six. Katie Smith led Union with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Teammate Heather Bennett added 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Saints will host Plattsburgh at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. SAINTS RETURN TO ACTION; WIN NINTH STRAIGHT (Jan. 12): The women's basketball team returned to action on Friday and posted their ninth straight victory with a 64-33 win at Skidmore College. The Saints are now 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the UCAA Conference. Skidmore falls to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the UCAA. Megan Dietrichsen went seven for ten from the field to notch 15 points for the Saints. She also blocked three shots and grabbed five rebounds. Meredith Eisenhut chipped in 12 points, five assists and three steals. Jen Janeway pulled down a team high 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Sarah Kloepfer, who also dished out four assists, added eight points. Marci Riddell led Skidmore with 11 points and five rebounds. The Saints forced 25 turnovers and held the Thoroughbreds to a 26% shooting effort from the field. They will play at Union College tomorrow. A 2:00 p.m. game is scheduled. EISENHUT, DIETRICHSEN TOP UCAA LEADER LIST (Dec 12): St. Lawrence junior Meredith Eisenhut and sophomore teammate Megan Dietrichsen are leading the pack in three statistical categories in the UCAA conference. Eisenhut is first in the conference for steals and assists, averaging 4.6 and 3.8 per game respectively. Dietrichsen leads the conference in blocked shots with a 3.1 per game average. Eisenhut was also mentioned on the scoring list, while Dietrichsen also appeared on the rebounding list. Other teammates appearing on the overall list are Amanda Valenta (field goal %), Jen Janeway (field goal %, assists), Cara Barbierri ( 3 point %), and Katie Griffith (blocked shots). The Saints, now 8-1 overall, will return to action on January 12th. They will play a 6:00 p.m. game at Skidmore. SAINTS DOWN ALFRED; CLOSE OUT SEMESTER AT 8-1 (Dec. 9): The women's basketball team eased to a 64-47 victory over Alfred on Saturday to close out the semester at 8-1 overall. They remain 1-0 in the UCAA conference. Alfred, meanwhile, falls to 0-5 overall. The Saints jumped out to an early lead and never trailed throughout regulation. They led the Saxons 31-14 at halftime. Meredith Eisenhut and Megan Dietrichsen led the way with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Both players were perfect from the free throw line, with Eisenhut going seven for seven and Dietrichsen going four for four. Eisenhut collected 10 steals and dished out three assists, while Dietrichsen pulled down five rebounds and blocked two shots. Katie Griffith added 11 points, shooting four for five from the field to include a three for four performance from three-point range. Jen Janeway dished out a team-high six assists. Brandi Backus led the Saxons with 17 points and three steals. Lisa Valitutto added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Saints return to action at Skidmore on January 12th. A 6:00 p.m. game is scheduled. SAINT WOMEN DOWN ITHACA (Dec. 8): The St. Lawrence women's basketball team improved to 7-1 overall with a 60-38 victory over Ithaca College on Friday evening. Ithaca, who shot just 22% from the field, falls to 3-4 overall with the loss. The Saints never trailed, leading the Bombers 30-15 at halftime. They out-rebounded Ithaca 51-36 and forced 17 turnovers. Meredith Eisenhut and Nicole Leary each tallied 16 points to lead the Saints in scoring. Eisenhut dished out three assists, while Leary blocked three shots. Jen Janeway and Megan Dietrichsen each pulled down 10 rebounds, with Janeway dishing out four assists and Dietrichsen blocking four shots. Ithaca did not have a single scorer reach double digits. They were led by Kerri Brown's nine points. Kelly Brady pulled down 13 rebounds for the Bombers. The Saints will host Alfred at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. SAINTS HAND MIDDLBURY FIRST LOSS OF SEASON (Dec. 3): The St. Lawrence women's basketball team improved to 6-1 overall with a 51-45 win over Middlebury in their home opener on Sunday afternoon. It was Middlebury's first loss of the 2000-01 season, as the Panthers entered the game at 5-0 overall. The Saints went on an eight-point run just six minutes into the first half to go on top 13-8. Middlebury hung around however, regaining a one-point lead with 1:34 to go in the half on a pair of made free throws by Amy Lowell. Megan Dietrichsen answered when teammate Meredith Eisenhut collected one of her six total steals and fed Dietrichsen for a layup with less than 30 seconds left in the half. Dietrichsen closed out the first half scoring with a pair of made free throws with one second to go, giving the Saints a 27-24 halftime advantage. It was an exchange of field goals in the second half. With 4:29 left in regulation, the Saints held a 44-43 lead. Eisenhut and Dietrichsen then made consecutive layups to put the Saints up by five points. Kristen Hanley grabbed an offensive rebound and gave Middlebury what would be their final two points of the game, as Dietrichsen made it 50-45 on another made layup and Nicole Leary sank a free throw with 10 seconds left in regulation to make the final score 51-45. Dietrichsen finished the game with 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. Leary put up 12 points and eight rebounds. Jen Janeway chipped in nine points, six rebounds and five assists. Eisenhut also dished out five assists and scored seven points to go along with her six steals. Hanley led Middlebury with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Megan McCosker added eight points and three steals. The Saints will host Ithaca and Alfred on Friday and Saturday. SAINTS EASE PAST CAZENOVIA Dec. 2- Sophomore center Megan Dietrichsen followed up a 14-point, three-block performance with 13 points and five blocks in a 74-51 win over host Cazenovia College on Saturday. The Saints improve to 5-1 overall with the victory. The Saints led Cazenovia throughout regulation and forced 24 turnovers to the 12 that they committed. St. Lawrence shot 65% from the field to Cazenovia's 38%. Jen Janeway went four for five from the field to chip in 12 points for the Saints. Janeway also collected five rebounds and dished out a team high five assists. Meredith Eisenhut contributed 11 points and four steals to the cause, while Amanda Valenta went a perfect four for four from the field to add nine points. Tiffany Trent and Jennifer Locke led Cazenovia with 12 points each. St. Lawrence will host Middlebury College at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. SAINTS POUND KEUKA Dec. 1- Sophomores Megan Dietrichsen and Katie Griffith each scored 14 points as the Saints cruised to a 75-36 blowout over Keuka on Friday evening. Both players were perfect from the free throw line, with Dietrichsen hitting four of four and Griffith making two of two. Dietrichsen also pulled down a team high eight rebounds. Griffith contributed three assists. Sarah Kloepfer and Alizah Bogdanich each chipped in nine points for the Saints, with Kloepfer dishing out a team high four assists. Nicole Leary grabbed seven rebounds and collected three steals. Keuka, who trailed the Saints 38-10 at halftime, was led by Erin Marshall who scored 12 points. Marshall was the only Keuka player to reach double digits in scoring. Giget Heale collected eight rebounds for the team. The Saints, now 4-1 overall, will play at Cazenovia College at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. EISENHUT LEADS SAINTS IN CONFERENCE OPENER Nov. 28- Junior guard Meredith Eisenhut recorded a triple-double in the Saint's conference opener against Clarkson University on Tuesday evening. Eisenhut scored 23 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and collected 10 steals en route to a 66-56 victory. As if that wasn't enough, she also dished out eight assists. The Saints, who led the Golden Knights 40-30 at halftime, got nine points from Katie Griffith and eight from both Sarah Kloepfer and Nicole Leary. Megan Dietrichsen contributed six rebounds, while Jen Janeway tallied three assists. The Golden Knights were led by Linda Bondellio, who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Holly Helmling added 12 points and Laura Blaauboer chipped in 10 points. While Clarkson out-rebounded the Saints 53-41, the Saints forced 24 turnovers to the 11 that they committed in regulation. Clarkson falls to 2-2 overall with the loss. The Saints are now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the UCAA conference. SAINTS DOWN SMITH COLLEGE Nov. 20- The Saints posted a 77-30 non-conference win over host Smith College on Monday night and improve to 2-1 overall. Juniors Jen Janeway and Cara Barbierri led the team, each contributing 11 points and three rebounds. Junior Meredith Eisenhut and freshman Aliza Bogdanich each chipped in nine points. The Saints, who shot 50% from the field in the first half, led Smith 40-18 at halftime. They forced a total of 32 turnovers by Smith at the end of regulation. St. Lawrence will play at arch-rival Clarkson University on Tuesday night, in their first conference game of the season. SAINTS BOUNCE BACK WITH TRIPLE DIGIT PERFORMANCE, Nov. 18- The women's basketball team bounced back from a season-opening loss by posting a 100-40 win over Eastern Nazarene in the consolation game of the Wheaton Tournament. The Saints are now 1-1 overall. In a total team effort, each member on the Saint roster scored and four players reached double-digits. Nicole Leary led the way with 16 points. Leary also pulled down six rebounds. Freshman Aliza Bogdanich, who was named to the All-Tournament team, chipped in 12 points. Bogdanich went six for eight from the field. Cara Barbierri and Caisey Jefferson each recorded 11 points, with Barbierri adding six assists and three steals. Meredith Eisenhut, who had a perfect three-for-three day from the field, also dished out six assists for the Saints. The Saints, who out-rebounded Eastern Nazarene 45-29 and forced 32 turnovers, held a 54-26 advantage at halftime. Eastern Nazarene was led by Jody Gardner, who scored 18 points and made three steals. SAINTS FALL TO BABSON IN SEASON OPENER Nov. 17- The Saints jumped out to a 31-19 halftime lead in their season opener against Babson at the Wheaton Tournament on Friday night, but were outscored 49-33 in the second half of play to suffer a 68-64 loss. Babson shot just 18% from the field in the first half of the contest and improved that number to 63% in the second half, helping them hold on for a victory. The Saints shot a consistent 34% from the field. Babson's Meredith Eddy led all scorer's with 22 points. Eddy also pulled down 11 rebounds and collected five steals. Ingrid Miller added 16 points and eight rebounds. The Saints were led by freshman Aliza Bogdanich, who scored 13 points, including a five for six performance from the free throw line. Junior Jen Janeway posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Janeway also dished out three assists. Junior Meredith Eisenhut added 11 points, four assists and three steals. The Saints, now 0-1, will face Eastern Nazarene in tomorrow's consolation game.
