SAINTS SEASON ENDS WITH 7-3 QUARTERFINAL LOSS

St. Lawrence's first winning season as a Division I program came to an end on Saturday with a 7-3 loss to Harvard in the ECAC Quarterfinals. The Saints end the season with an 18-15-1 record after their first Division I playoff appearance.

Harvard jumped out to a 5-0 lead 0:44 into the second period when Jennifer Botterill recorded her third goal of the game. Botterill and Angela Ruggerio each had two goals in the first period. Stacy Boudrias scored the first Saint goal of the game at the 3:45 mark of the second to make it 5-1 after two periods.

Caroline Trudeau closed the gap to 5-2 to open the third period before Tammy Shewchuk and Ruggerio each scored to make it 7-2. Chera Marshall closed the scoring for the Saints at the 18:15 mark of the third for the 7-3 final.

Emily Stein recorded 30 saves in the Saint net with Caryn Ungewitter making one save in relief. Crystal Springer had 26 saves for Harvard.

Harvard improves to 21-4-3 and will play in the ECAC Semifinals at Brown next weekend.

SAINTS FALL TO MAINE, UNH DRAW HARVARD IN ECAC QUARTERFINALS

Maine scored one goal in each period en route to a 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday. Raffi Wolf, Andrea Keller, and Kelly Nelson each scored once for the Black Bears.

Amanda Cronin had 21 saves for the shutout in the Maine goal while Emily Stein stopped 19 shots for St. Lawrence.

On Sunday, Alicia Roberts recorded 30 saves for the shutout to backstop New Hampshire to a 3-0 win over the Saints. Kelly McManus, Michelle Thornton, and Kristine Butt each had a goal for the Wildcats. Caryn Ungwewitter made 21 stops in the Saint net.

St. Lawrence finishes the regular season at 18-14-1 overall and 11-12-1 in the ECAC.

The Saints will be the seventh seed in the ECAC playoffs and will play a one-game quarterfinal at #2 Harvard on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00. The playoff appearance is the first for St. Lawrence since upgrading to a Division I program.

SAINTS TIE NIAGARA 1-1, CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

St. Lawrence outshot Niagara 40-15 but came away with a 1-1 tie in an ECAC league contest on Saturday. The tie was good enough to help the Saints clinch their first playoff berth as a Division I program.

After a scoreless first period, Niagara's Amanda Reid put the Eagles on the board at the 7:47 mark of the second. Caroline Trudeau tied the game at 1-1 and finished the scoring at the 18:54 mark of the first with Nicole Kirnan assisting. Trudeau had two goals in Friday night's contest with Niagara including the game-winner.

Tania Pinelli recorded 40 saves in the Niagara goal, including 16 in the third as the Saints outhsot the Eagles 16-1 in the period. Emily Stein had 14 saves in the Saint goal.

St. Lawrence is now 18-12-1 overall and 11-10-1 in ECAC play. Niagara finishes its regular season at 17-12-3 overall and 10-12-2 in the ECAC.

The Saints complete the regular season next weekend at Maine on Saturday and at New Hampshire on Sunday. Game time both days is 3:00.

SAINTS TOP NIAGARA 4-2 IN GAME ONE

Caroline Trudeau had two goals to lead St. Lawrence to a 4-2 ECAC legaue win over Niagara on Friday night. With the victory, St. Lawrence leapfrogs Niagara to take over seventh place in the ECAC standings. The Saints can clinch their first playoff appearance as a Division I program with a win in Saturday's rematch at 3:00.

Senior defender Kristina Heyes scored her second career goal and the first since her freshman season to open the scoring on the power play at the 13:19 mark of the first. Trudeau gave St. Lawrence a 2-0 lead 1:51 later, also on the power-play.

A pair of second-period Niagara goals by Julie Forsyth and Candice Celeen, both on the power-play, tied the game at 2-2 heading into the third.

Trudeau's second goal of the game and 15th of the season at the 15:51 mark was the game-winner with Nicole Kirnan and Colleen Coakley assisting. An empty-net goal by Amanda Sargeant with 20 seconds remaining sealed the win for the Saints.

Sargeant had a goal and an assist in the game while Kirnan and Chera Marshall each had two assists. Emily Stein recorded 20 saves for the win in the Saint goal while Tania Pinelli stopped 25 shots for Niagara.

St. Lawrence improves to 18-12-0 overall and 11-10-0 in the ECAC with the win. Niagara falls to 17-12-2 overall and 10-12-1 in ECAC league play.

SAINTS DOWN YALE 5-2 FOR WEEKEND SWEEP

Caroline Trudeau had two goals and two assists to lead St. Lawrence to a 5-2 win over Yale in ECAC conference action on Sunday afternoon. The win gives St. Lawrence a crucial sweep in their final home series of the season following a 5-2 win over Princeton on Saturday.

Nicole Kirnan opened the scoring for the Saints just 50 seconds into the game with Stacy Boudrias and Trudeau assisting. Trudeau recorded the second Saint goal on the power-play at the 6:41 mark of the first with Kelly Sage and Kristina Heyes assisting.

Boudrias made it 3-0 Saints just 37 seconds into the second with Trudeau assisting before Sara Wood put Yale on the scoreboad at the 11:43 mark. Boudrias scored again 20 seconds into the third, also on the power-play with Kirnan and Sage assisting to give the Saints a 4-1 edge. Trudeau's second goal of the day made it 5-1 5:20 into the third with Kirnan and Suzanne Fiacco assisting. Lisa Meyers rounded out the scoring with a goal for Yale at the 7:46 mark of the third.

Emily Stein had 14 saves in the Saint goal while Katie Hirte made 24 stops for Yale. The Saints for 2 of 5 on the power-play while holding Yale to 1 goal in six chances.

St. Lawrence improves to 17-12-0 overall with the win and evens their league record at 10-10-0. Yale falls to 6-18-1, 2-17-1 in the ECAC.

St. Lawrence returns to action next weekend for a two-game series at Niagara. Game times are Friday, February 25 at 7:00 and Saturday, February 26 at 3:00.

SAINTS DOWN TIGERS 5-2, TRUDEAU RECORDS 100th POINT

Amanda Sargeant had a goal and two assists and Caroline Trudeau recorded her 100th career point as St. Lawrence downed Princeton 5-2 in a crucial ECAC league contest Saturday afternoon.

Sargeant started the scoring unassisted at the 10:41 mark of the first period. Trudeau made it a 2-0 game just 1:29 later with Colleen Coakley assisting. The goal was the 56th career goal as a Saint for Trudeau, who also has 44 career assists for 100 career points, fourth on the Saint all-time list.

Abbey Fox scored on the power-play early in the second period to close the gap to 2-1 but Shannon Smith recorded a shorthanded tally at the 7:45 mark of the second with Sargeant assisting to give the Saints a 3-1 edge heading into the third period.

Chera Marshall made it a 4-1 game early in the third on the power-play with Smith and Sargeant recording assists. Andrea Kilbourne closed the gap to 4-2 at the 5:57 mark before Kelly Sage rounded out the scoring 1:03 later, also on the power-play, for the 5-2 final.

St. Lawrence converted two of four power-play chances on the afternoon while holding the tigers to just one power-play marker in six opportunities.

Emily Stein stopped 31 shots in the Saint goal while Sarah Ahlquist had 21 saves for Princeton.

St. Lawrence improves to 16-12-0 overall and 9-10-0 in the ECAC with the win. The Saints are one point behind Princeton (10-9-5, 8-8-3) for eighth place in the ECAC standings. St. Lawrence hosts Yale Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the final home game of the season.

SAINTS BLANK BUCKEYES 3-0

Suzanne Fiacco had two goals and Emily Stein had a 17-save shutout as St. Lawrence blanked Ohio State 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Fiacco scored the game's first goal 15:57 into the second period with Nicole Kirnan assisting. Fiacco made it 2-0 5:29 into the third period with Jess Wilson and Stacy Boudrias recording assists. Colleen Coakley closed out the scoring at the 15:27 mark of the third on the power-play with Amanda Sargeant and Chera Marshall assisting.

April Stojak recorded 27 saves in the Ohio State goal.

St. Lawrence improves to 15-12-0 overall with the non-conference win. The Saints are 8-10-0 in ECAC league play. Ohio State drops to 4-24-2 with the loss.

St. Lawrence returns to ECAC conference action next weekend hosting Princeton and Yale on Saturday and Sunday. The games will mark the final appearance at Appleton Arena for the Saints this season. Game time both days is 2:00.

SAINTS TOP OILERS 5-2

Chera Marshall had a hat trick to lead St. Lawrence to a 5-2 non-conference win against the University of Findlay Friday night. Caryn Ungewitter and Kelly O'Ryan combined for 17 saves in the Saint net as the St. Lawrence outshot the Oliers 40-19.

Shannon Smith opened the scoring at the 2:36 mark of the second period with Kelly Sage and Amanda Sargeant assisting to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead. Marshall would score the game's next three goals, two of them on the power-play to put St. Lawrence ahead 4-0. Smith had two assists on Marshall's goals with Sage, Sargeant, Kristina Heyes and Caroline Trudeau also assisting in the span. Pernilla Buckholm put Findlay on the board to make it 4-1 before Stacy Boudrias scored with 1:31 remaining in the third to make it 5-1, with goalkeeper O'Ryan receiving the assist. A late goal by Melissa Oliver made it a 5-2 final.

St. Lawrence returns to action Saturday at Ohio State. The game is the final non-conference match for the Saints this season.

DARTMOUTH TOPS ST. LAWRENCE 6-1

A four goal outburst in the second period led Dartmouth to a 6-1 win over St. Lawrence Sunday afternoon at Appleton Arena. Jen Wiehn had two goals for Dartmouth while Stacy Boudrias had the lone Saint goal.

Boudrias tied the game at 1-1 on the power play just 55 seconds into the second period but Dartmouth scored three times in the span of 1:13 starting at the 8:58 mark of the second to pull away from the Saints.

Emily Stein and Caryn Ungewitter combined for 23 saves in the Saint goal while Meaghan Cahill had 24 saves for Dartmouth.

With the loss, St. Lawrence falls to 13-12-0 overall and 8-10-0 in the ECAC. Dartmouth improves to 15-7-0 overall and 14-4-0 in conference play.

St. Lawrence travels to Findlay and Ohio State this weekend for a pair of nonconference games. Friday's game at Findlay starts at 7:00 and Saturday's game at Ohio State begins at 1:00.

SAINTS DOWN BOSTON COLLEGE 6-0

St. Lawrence jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and cruised to a 6-0 win over Boston College on Saturday afternoon. Chera Marshall had three assists in the game while Emily Stein recorded 17 saves for the shutout win in the Saint net. The win snaps a 7 game losing streak for the Saints.

Suzanne Fiacco gave the Saints the lead just 2:20 into the game with Vicky Hauck and Aliza Goss assisting. Stacy Boudrias made it 2-0 with help from Nicole Kirnan at the 8:44 mark and Hauck made it 3-0 at 12:39 with Marshall and Meghan Maguire assisting. Colleen Coakley closed the first period scoring unassisted at the 13:59 mark with her first goal of the season.

Amanda Sargeant scored the final two goals for the Saints, one each in the second and third periods. The goals were Sargeant's 12th and 13th of the season, with Shannon Smith and Marshall assisting on both scores.

Sharon VanTuyl had 33 saves in the Boston College goal.

The win improves the Saints to 13-11-0 overall and 8-9-0 in ECAC league play. Boston College falls to 5-15-1 overall and 1-15-1 in the ECAC.

St. Lawrence returns to action Sunday afternoon hosting Dartmouth at Appleton Arena. Game time is 2:00.

PROVIDENCE TOPS ST. LAWRENCE 4-0

Jessica Tabb had two goals and an assist and Olympic gold medalist Sara DeCosta recorded her sixth shutout of the season as Providence topped St. Lawrence 4-0 in women's hockey on Sunday.

Kim Mathias scored the first goal of the game at the 11:42 mark of the first period followed by a Tabb power-play goal at 18:25. Tabb scored the lone goal of the second period at the 8:58 mark and assisted on Jenn Butsch's power-play goal to close the scoring at 16:02 of the third.

DeCosta recorded 25 saves in the Friar net in the victory while Emily Stein stopped 26 shots for the Saints.

Providence improved to 15-5-3 overall with the win and 9-4-3 in ECAC league play. The Saints fall to 12-11-0 overall and 7-9-0 in the ECAC.

St. Lawrence returns to action this weekend hosting Boston College and Norheastern on Saturday and Sunday. Both games start at 2:00.

NORTHEASTERN DOWNS ST. LAWRENCE 7-4

The Northeastern Huskies overcame a three point effort by St. Lawrence's Shannon Smith to claim a 7-4 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.

Smith assisted on Amanda Sargeant's first period goal at 5:01 which gave the Saints a 1-0 lead. Kim Greene tied the game at the 9:21 mark and the score remained 1-1 at the end of the first period.

Northeastern opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the second period with a goal from Colleen Coen before Nicole Kirnan tied the game for the Saints at the 12:58 mark. Erica Archambeau gave Northeastern a 3-2 lead with 1:23 to go in the period but the Chera Marshall tied it a again with 54 seconds remaining with Smith and Sargeant assisting. Lisa Giovanelli would score with just seven seconds remaining to give Northeastern a 4-3 lead entering the third period.

Smith tied the game at four apiece at the 12:03 mark, but Hillary Witt and Giovanelli would score just 21 seconds apart starting at the 15:20 mark to put Northeastern ahead for good. An empty-net goal by Betsy Dyke made it a 7-4 final.

Caryn Ungewitter stopped 34 shots in the Saint goal while Erika Silva recorded 30 saves in the Husky net. The loss drops St. Lawrence to 12-10-0 overall and 7-8-0 in ECAC.

Northeastern improves to 15-4-2 overall and 10-3-2 in the ECAC. The Saints return to action on Sunday playing at Providence at 2:00.

CORNELL BEATS SAINTS FOR THIRD PLACE IN LAKE PLACID

Cornell broke a scoreless tie in the final second of the first period and went on to a 4-2 victory over St. Lawrence in the third place game of the High Peaks Hockey Classic in Lake Placid. Meghan Maguire scored both St. Lawrence goals in the game and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

Jenel Bode picked up a loose puck in the crease and poked it past St. Lawrence goaltender Emily Stein to open the scoring at the 19:59 mark of the opening period. Erica Olson gave Cornell a 2-0 lead 9:35 into the second before Maguire cut the lead in half with a power-play goal at the 13:39 mark with Stacy Boudrias and Kristina Heyes assisting. Cornell extended their lead to 3-1 just 1:04 later on a shorthanded score by Danielle Bilodeau.

Maguire scored unassisted on the power-play 3:16 into the third period to cut the lead to 3-2 but the Saints were unable to find the equalizer before Lindsay Murao's empty-net goal with 14 seconds remaining in the third made it a 4-2 final.

Emily Stein recorded 24 saves in the Saint net in the game while Sanaya Sandahl stopped 25 shots for Cornell. Cornell improves to 6-10-1 with the win while the Saints drop to 12-9-0.

St. Lawrence returns to ECAC league action this weekend playing at Northeastern on Saturday and at Providence on Sunday. Both games start at 2:00.

BULLDOGS UPEND SAINTS 3-1 IN LAKE PLACID

The St. Lawrence Saints outshot the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 28-26 but fell to a 3-1 loss in the semifinal of the High Peaks Hockey Classic in Lake Placid. Team Finland goalie Tuula Puputti, a freshman addition to Minnesota-Duluth's roster for the spring semester, backstopped the Bulldogs to the win with 25 saves.

Duluth scored the first goal of the game at the 6:19 mark of the first period as Maria Rooth poked a feed from Navada Rusell past St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter. Hanne Sikio and Jennifer Hempel scored second period goals to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at 13:43 mark of the second.

Amanda Sargeant scored the lone St. Lawrence goal on the power play at the 16:48 mark of the second period. The goal was Sargeant's tenth of the season.

Ungewitter finished with 23 saves in the Saint goal.

The win improved Minnesota-Duluth to 18-0-1 in their first season of varsity competition. St. Lawrence falls to 12-8-0 with the loss.

In the first semifinal game, Concordia defeated Cornell by a 5-1 score behind three goals and an assist from Corinne Swirsky. St. Lawrence will face Cornell in the consolation game Sunday at 12:00 while Concordia and Minnesota-Duluth will play for the tournament championship at 3:00.

CORNELL DOWNS SAINTS 3-2 IN OVERTIME

Danielle Bilodeau scored two goals including the game-winner 2:09 into overtime to give the Cornell Big Red a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena on Thursday night.

Cornell scored the first goal of the game just 0:34 into the contest when Colette Bredin picked up a loose puck in the crease and beat St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter. Caroline Trudeau scored her 10th goal of the season on the power play just 3:01 into the period to tie the game for the Saints.

Stacy Boudrias put the Saints up 2-1 2:40 into the second period with Trudeau and Nicole Kirnan assisting, but Bilodeau tallied unassisted at the 9:43 mark to even the score at 2-2. Boudrias hit the pipe on a three on one break late in the third but the Saints were unable to find the game-winner.

Caryn Ungewitter recorded three saves in the overtime session before Bilodeau picked up an Erica Olson rebound for the game-winner. Ungewitter finished with 31 saves in the game and Cornell's Elizabeth Connelly ended with 33 stops.

Trudeau's two points in the game gave her 96 career points as she moved into sole possession of fifth place on the Saint all-time scoring list.

The loss drops St. Lawrence to 12-7-0 overall and 7-7-0 in ECAC play. Cornell improves to 5-10-1 overall and in the ECAC.

Both St. Lawrence and Cornell will compete this weekend in the High Peaks tournament at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. Cornell faces Concordia in the first semifinal Saturday at 5:00 while St. Lawrence faces Minnesota-Duluth at 8:00. The championship game is Sunday at 3:00 with the consolation game scheduled for Sunday at 12:00.

SAINTS FALL TO HARVARD, BROWN

Suzanne Fiacco, Chera Marshall and Caroline Trudeau each scored a goal for St. Lawrence but the Saints fell to Harvard 6-3 on Saturday night. Caryn Ungewitter recorded 27 saves in the Saint goal. Tammy Shewchuk had two goals and three assists for the Crimson.

In Friday's game, Jill Graat recorded a hat trick to lead Brown to a 6-0 victory over the Saints. Emily Stein stopped 32 shots in the Saint net.

St. Lawrence is now 12-6-0 overall and 7-6-0 in ECAC play.

The Saints return to action Thursday evening hosting Cornell in an ECAC league contest at Appleton Arena. St. Lawrence will also compete in the High Peaks Tournament in Lake Placid this weekend facing Minnesota-Duluth in a first-round game Saturday at 8:00.

SAINTS DOWN MAINE 3-2 FOR WEEKEND SWEEP

Junior captain Caroline Trudeau's eighth goal of the season gave the Saints a 3-2 win over the University of Maine on Saturday and a sweep in the weekend's ECAC league series. St. Lawrence upset the University of New Hampshire 2-1 on Friday night.

Jess Wilson put the Saints ahead 1-0 just 1:04 into the contest with Aliza Goss assisting. Raffi Wolf tied the game at the 4:01 mark of the period but Amanda Sargeant scored on the power play at the 15:48 mark of the first with Suzanne Fiacco assisting.

The score remained 2-1 through the end of the second period before Trudeau put the Saints ahead 3-1 6:53 into the third on a feed from Meghan Maguire. Wolf scored on the power play for Maine at the 9:05 mark of the third to cut the Saint lead to one but the Black Bears were unable to find the equalizer later in the game.

Caryn Ungewitter recorded 22 saves in the Saint goal en route to the victory while Dawn Froats stopped 28 shots in the Maine net. Maine was one for five on the power-play in the game while the Saints were one for three. The win improves St. Lawrence to 12-4-0 overall and 7-4-0 in ECAC league play. The Saints were 6-10-0 overall and 3-8-0 in conference play after the same number of games last season. Maine falls to 4-10-0 overall and 1-10-0 in the ECAC.

St. Lawrence returns to action this weekend facing Brown and Harvard on the road on Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.

SAINTS UPSET NEW HAMPSHIRE 2-1

Shannon Smith broke a 1-1 tie with 2:54 to play in regulation as the St. Lawrence Saints posted a 2-1 upset of the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday. St. Lawrence improves to 11-4-0 overall and 6-4-0 in ECAC conference play with the win. New Hampshire, which was ranked third nationally in the most recent U.S. College Hockey Online Poll, fell to 11-3-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the ECAC.

The Saints recorded the first goal of the contest 2:33 into the second period when Chera Marshall scored on a rebound from a Smith shot with Meghan Maguire also assisting. New Hampshire tied the game on the power-play at the 0:32 mark of the third period when Samantha Holmes scored on a feed from Carisa Zaban. Emily Stein recorded the victory in the Saint net with 23 saves, 14 of them in the third period. Jen Huggon stopped 17 shots in the Wildcat goal. New Hampshire was one for seven on the power-play in the game while the Saint were held scoreless in six power-play chances.

St. Lawrence returns to action Saturday at 3:00 hosting Maine in an ECAC conference game at Appleton Arena.

SAINTS TIE CONCORDIA 4-4 IN OVERTIME

St. Lawrence and Concordia combined for five power-play goals and exchanged the lead in the game five times in battling to a 4-4 overtime tie in an exhibition contest at Appleton Arena on Tuesday night.

Concordia's Corinne Swirsky recorded the first goal of the game at 5:45 into the first period on Concordia's first power-play. St. Lawrence's Stacy Boudrias tied the game at the 10:39 mark of the first to make it a 1-1 contest at the first intermission.

Three power-play goals were scored in the second period, with St. Lawrence's Amanda Sargeant scoring first at the 2:40 mark. Annie Suprenant tied the game for Concordia 7:32 into the period but Kelly Sage gave the Saints a 3-2 lead with 1:22 remaining in the second. Concordia recorded the first two goals of the third period before Caroline Trudeau's power-play marker with 1:56 to play in regulation knotted the score at four goals apiece.

St. Lawrence finished the game 3 for 5 on the power-play while Concordia was 2 for 5. St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter recorded 22 saves in the draw while Jessika Audet stopped 17 shots for Concordia.

St. Lawrence returns to action this weekend hosting New Hampshire and Maine in a piar of ECAC league contests Friday and Saturday. Friday's contest starts at 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's game begins at 3:00 p.m.

ST. LAWRENCE DOWNS CORNELL 5-4

Junior Stacy Boudrias recorded two goals, including the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining in the game, to give St. Lawrence a 5-4 win over Cornell in an ECAC league contest Wednesday night.

Cornell's Sarah Olivier opened the scoring just 1:34 into the game but Boudrias tied things up at one apiece for the Saints just 3:10 into the period. Cornell's Alison Stewart gave the Big Red a 2-1 lead at the 13:09 mark of the period but the Saints' Nicole Kirnan tied the game at two just 1:18 into the second.

Suzanne Fiacco gave St. Lawrence its first lead of the game at the 10:11 mark of the second but that lead lasted just 13 seconds when Stewart scored her second goal of the night for Cornell. Amanda Sargeant put the Saints ahead 4-3 at the 11:55 mark of the second but Jenel Bode knotted the game once again with a power-play goal coming with just 11 seconds remaining in the period.

The third period remained scoreless until Boudrias' game-winner at the 18:07 mark came on the power-play with Kelly Sage assisting. Caryn Ungewitter recorded the win in the Saint goal with 18 saves, as the Saints outhsot the Big Red 30-22 in the game.

With the win, St. Lawrence improves to 10-4-0 overall and 5-4-0 in ECAC league play. The Saints remain idle until they host Concordia in an exhibition contest on January 4 and welcome New Hampshire and Maine for a pair of league games on January 7 and 8.

NORTHEASTERN DEFEATS ST. LAWRENCE 2-0

Hilary Witt's fourteenth goal of the season was the only offense Northeastern would need as they defeated St. Lawrence 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena. The loss was the second consecutive shutout defeat suffered by the Saints.

Witt broke the scoreless draw with a short-handed tally 12:51 into the first period with Kim Vallone assisting. The game remained 1-0 until the 11:26 mark of the third period when Beth Claggett made it 2-0 on a setup from Kathleen Savino. St. Lawrence was unable to get on the scoreboard despite pulling the goalie for during a late power-play opportunity.

Northeastern outshot the Saints 39-24 in the contest, with Erika Silva stopping 24 shots for the Huskies and Caryn Ungewitter recording 37 saves in the St. Lawrence goal. Northeastern was scoreless in two power-play opportunities while the Saints were unable to capitalize in four chances of their own. With the loss, St. Lawrence falls to 9-4-0 overall on the season and 4-4-0 in ECAC league play.

Northeastern improves to 11-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in conference action. St. Lawrence closes out the 1999 portion of the schedule in an ECAC league contest Wednesday at Cornell starting at 7:00. Northeastern remains idle until the Dartmouth Inviational December 29-31.

PROVIDENCE DOWNS ST. LAWRENCE 1-0

Jessica Tabb scored the lone goal of the game and U.S. Olympian Sara DeCosta recorded her fourth shutout of the season to lead the Providence Friars to a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence on Friday night.

The game remained scoreless until the 4:23 mark of the third period when Tabb beat St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter on a feed from Kim Mathias with Jackie Tamsin also assisting. St. Lawrence was unable to find the equalizer despite putting 11 shots on the Friar goal in the third period and outshooting Provdience 34-21 in the game. DeCosta finished with 34 saves for the Friars while Ungewitter recorded 20 stops in the Saint net.

The Saints were scoreless in two power-play chances in the game while Providence did not have any power-play opportunities.

With the win, Providence improves to 7-4-0 overall and 6-3-0 in ECAC league play. St. Lawrence falls to 9-2-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the ECAC. St. Lawrence hosts Northeastern Saturday afternoon at 4:00 while Providence plays at Cornell, also at 4:00 on Saturday.

BROWN TOPS ST. LAWRENCE 3-1

Brown scored twice late in the second period on a 5 on 3 power play to overcome a 1-0 deficit and come away with a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena on Sunday afternoon. Tara Mounsey scored twice and assisted on the thrid goal for the Bears.

After a scoreless first period in which Brown outshot the Saints 7-6, St. Lawrence's Chera Marhsall broke up a Brown clearing attempt at the blue line and scored the game's first goal unassisted at the 11:36 mark of the second. Mounsey tied the game for Brown with just 19 seconds to go in the period on the five on three power play with Cara Gardner and Jordan Jiskra assisting. Nine seconds later and still on a five on four power play Kathleen Kauth put Brown ahead 2-1 with Gardner and Mounsey assisting. Brown oushot the Saints 19-5 in the second stanza

St. Lawrence was unable to find the equalizer in the third period despite outshooting Brown 14-11. The game remained 2-1 until Mounsey scored an unassisted empty-netter with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter finished with 34 saves in the contest while Ali Brewer stopped 24 shots in the Brown goal. Brown scored on two of five power play chances while the Saints were held scoreless in their only power play opportunity.

St. Lawrence remains home next weekend when the face Providence and Northeastern at 7:00 on Friday and 4:00 on Saturday. Brown returns home to Providence to host Princeton and Yale next Saturday and Sunday at 2:00.

ST. LAWRENCE DOWNS TOP-RANKED HARVARD 4-2

St. Lawrence used a pair of power-play goals to break a 2-2 tie and post a 4-2 upset over Harvard Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena. The win improves the Saints to 9-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in ECAC league play. Harvard falls to 5-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the ECAC. Harvard was ranked #1 in the nation in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Poll.

St. Lawrence's Nicole Kirnan scored the first two goals of the contest with first period tallies coming 6:23 and 8:40 into the game. The goals were Kirnan's 8th and 9th on the season with assists coming from Caroline Trudeau and Meghan Maguire on the first score and from Shannon Smith on the second goal. Harvard's Angela Ruggiero closed the gap to 2-1 with a goal at the 12:10 mark of the period before Angie Francisco knotted the game at 2-2 with a marker at the 18:24 mark.

Freshman Amanda Sargeant scored on the power-play from Jessica Wilson at the 4:47 mark of the second period to put the Saints back ahead 3-2. The score remained that way until late into the third period when Chera Marshall put the Saints up 4-2 with Sargeant and Colleen Coakley assisting, also on the power play.

St. Lawrence's Caryn Ungewitter recorded 44 saves in the contest en route to the victory, her fifth of the season. Harvard's Alison Kuusisto made 31 stops in the Crimson goal. St. Lawrence finished the afternoon 2 for 5 on the power play while holding Harvard scoreless in 5 power play chances. For the season, the Saints have allowed just one power play goal in 54 opponent chances.

St. Lawrence hosts Brown Sunday afternoon at Appleton Arena while Harvard journeys to Ithaca, NY to face Cornell. Both games start at 2:00 pm.

SAINTS SWEEP YALE, PRINCETON

St. Lawrence University's women's ice hockey team improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the ECAC Division I Women's League with a pair of road wins Saturday and Sunday as juniors Nicole Kirnan and Caroline Trudeau scored six points each in wins over Yale and Princeton.

The Saints, who will host Harvard and Brown in ECAC games Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., beat Yale 6-1 on Saturday and upended Princeton 3-2 on Saturday as Caryn Ungewitter had a 29 save afternoon. It was the first road sweep of ECAC rivals for the Saints since joining the Division I women's league.

Against Yale, Kirnan had two goals and one assist and Trudeau had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Kelly Sage scored the game winning goal and contributed two assists in the game while the freshman pair of Amanda Sargeant and Shannon Smith each had a goal and an assist. Emily Stein earned the victory in goal for the Saints with a 28-save afternoon.

The Saints outshot Yale 41-29 and were one for two on the power play while Yale was scoreless in four power play chances.

Ungewitter gave up her first two goals of the season in a game which was statistically dominated by Princeton on Sunday, but Kirnan scored the game winner midway through the third period and Ungewitter made it stand up for her fourth win without a loss.

Trudeau opened the scoring at Princeton from Kirnan and Sage with the game just four minutes old and Stacy Boudrias scored her fifth of the year just 27 seconds into the second period from Kirnan and Trudeau.

Andrea Kilbourne scored midway through the period on a Princeton power play to cut it to 2-1 as the Saints allowed their first power play goal in 49 chances this season. Princeton tied the game at 2-2 when Carrie Seelaus scored at the 9:10 mark of the third period, but Kirnan scored the game winner just 55 seconds later on a power play with Trudeau and Sage assisting. Princeton had a 31-13 edge in shots on goal, but Ungewitter came up big in goal for the win.

Ungewitter now has a .050 goals against average in four games and a .970 save percentage as the Saints as a team are allowing just 0.75 goals per game. Stein has a 1.13 goals against average with a .931 save percentage. Ungewitter leads all ECAC Division I women's goalies in both goals against average and save percentage with Stein fifth in goals against average and the Saints are the top defensive team and second offensively through the first nine games of the season.

SAINTS ROUT COLGATE 8-0 IN WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY

Junior Caroline Trudeau and freshman Chera Marshall scored two goals each as St. Lawrence University's women's hockey team routed Colgate 8-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Saints improved to 6-1 on the season and recorded their fifth shutout. Colgate, which is transitioning to full Division I status, but plays in the ECAC Division III league, played its season opener.

St. Lawrence jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:55 into the game as Marshall scored her third goal of the season on a power play from Amanda Sargeant. Shannon Smith made it 2-0 with her third of the year from Suzanne Fiacco and Jess Wilson at 10:40 and Vicky Houck completed first period scoring from Meghan Maguire with her first collegiate goal at 19:45.

The Saints made it 4-0 just 1:19 into the second as Marshall scored her second of the afternoon from Stacy Boudrias and Maguire and took a 5-0 lead on Alison Coope's unassisted goal at 6:01. Trudeau scored a power play goal for her first of the game and fourth of the year from Maguire and Kelly Sage at 17:35 of the second period and picked up her second of the game at 5:12 of the third from Boudrias and Sage. Fiacco completed the Saint scoring from Marshall at 6:50.

Emily Stein and freshman Kelly O'Ryan shared the shutout as Stein had one first period save and O'Ryan had five in the second and third periods. Jen Burtraw had 34 saves for Colgate.

SAINTS BOUNCE BACK FROM FIRST LOSS WITH ROUT OF B.C.

Junior goaltender Caryn Ungewitter needed just 13 saves to post her third consecutive shutout to start the new season for St. Lawrence University's women's hockey team and the Saints rebounded from their first loss of the season, a 3-2 overtime setback at Dartmouth on Friday, with a 9-0 romp past Boston College Saturday.

The Saints, now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the ECAC, put up four first period goals to give Ungewitter, who has stopped all 36 shots sent her way this season, more than enough to work with.

Stacy Boudrias scored two first period goals to ignite the Saints and finished with two goals and two assists while Nicole Kirnan also had two goals and two assists and Amanda Sargeant scored a pair of goals.

Boudrias scored the game-winner just 31 seconds into the game from Kirnan and Sargeant scored her fourth of the year from Alison Coope and Kristina Heyes at 3:20. Boudrias converted on a power play from Kelly Sage and Caroline Trudeau for her fourth of the year at 4:36 and Trudeau scored her third of the season from Kirnan and Coope on a power play at 12:47 to complete the first period scoring.

Sargeant scored unassisted on a power play at 2:37 of the second and Kirnan put her third of the season past BC goalie Christy Nentwig from Boudrias and Trudeau at 12:55 to make it 6-0 after two periods.

Chera Marshall scored her second from Suzanne Fiacco and Sage with the teams skating four-on-four at 5:58 of the third, Kirnan scored her fourth of the year on a power play from Boudrias and Sage at 15:24 and Jessica Wilson completed the scoring from Marshall at 16:02.

DARTMOUTH HANDS SAINTS OVERTIME LOSS

Liz Macri's game-winner with just 25 seconds remaining in overtime spolied gave Dartmouth a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence in the first ECAC league contest of the season for both teams.

The contest was scoreless unless Carrie Sekela scored 5:12 into the first period to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead. Chera Marshall tied the game for the Saints 2:01 into the third on an assist from Jessica Wilson.

Carly Haggard's unassisted goal restored the one goal lead for Dartmouth at the 6:22 mark of the third but Amanda Sargeant's third goal of the season at 11:20 knotted the game at two goals apiece. Emily Stein recorded 22 saves in the St. Lawrence goal including 3 in the overtime session. Meaghan Cahill stopped 16 shots in the victory for Dartmouth.

The Saints will look to pick up their first ECAC win of the season when they visit Boston College at 7:00 on Saturday night.

ST. LAWRENCE 7, MSU-MANKATO 0

Suzanne Fiacco and Nicole Kirnan each scored twice and junior netminder Caryn Ungewitter recorded her second shutout of the season to lead the St. Lawrence to a 7-0 victory over MSU-Mankato on Sunday afternoon. Ungewitter tallied 10 saves in the Saint goal to remain perfect in 120 minutes of action on the season.

Fiacco started the Saint scoring 4:12 into the first period with a shorthanded tally on a feed from Aliza Goss. Kirnan scored the only other goal of the opening stanza with a power-play marker at the 13:36 mark. Megan Maguire and Fiacco each scored second period goals for the Saints, with Fiacco's goal coming just as time expired in the period. Kirnan scored her second power-play goal of the game in the third period which also saw Saint goals from Stacy Boudrias and Amanda Sargeant.

Eight different Saint players recorded at least one assist in the contest. St. Lawrence finished the afternoon 2 for 6 on the power-play while the Mavericks were 0 for 9. The Saints outshot MSU-Mankato 43-10. St. Lawrence has outscored its opposition 17-1 through the first four contests of the year.

St. Lawrence begins its ECAC schedule next weekend when they travel to Dartmouth and Boston College while MSU-Mankato begins their inaugural season of WCHA play as they play host to St. Cloud.

ST. LAWRENCE 3, MSU-MANKATO 1

Suzanne Fiacco and Jessica Wilson each scored first period goals to lead the Saints to a 3-1 victory over MSU-Mankato Saturday night. Fiacco tallied on a a feed from Aliza Goss 3:25 into the game. Wilson's goal was set up by Amanda Sargeant and Shannon Smith on the power-play and came with just 47 seconds remaining in the opening period.

MSU-Mankato's Erin Hafermann scored for the Mavericks at the 12:53 mark of the second period, breaking a St. Lawrence shutout streak that had lasted the first 152:23 of the young season. The Mavericks were unable to find the equalizer however as Stacy Boudrias found the empty net with 41 seconds remaining in the third to make the final score 3-1.

St. Lawrence's Emily Stein earned her second victory of the season with 13 saves in the St. Lawrence net while MSU-Mankato's Jennie Padgett was impressive in the losing effort stopping 46 of 48 shots she faced. St. Lawrence improves to 3-0-0 on the season while MSU-Mankato falls to 2-2-0. The same two teams will face off again at noon on Sunday at Appleton Arena.

SAINTS SWEEP MERCYHURST WITH TWIN SHUTOUTS, 4-0, 3-0

Jess Wilson (right) scored one goal and set up another and Emily Stein came through with an 18-save shutout as St. Lawrence University's women's ice hockey team gave first-year head coach Paul Flanagan a victory in his collegiate head-coaching debut with a 4-0 win at Mercyhurst Friday night. The Saints completed a perfect weekend Saturday afternoon as freshman Shannon Smith scored two goals and goalie Caryn Ungewitter made 13 saves in a 3-0 shutout.

The 2-0 Saints will make their home debut against Minnesota State at 7 p.m. Friday night in the first of a two game set. In Friday's game Saints dominated play from the start, outshooting Mercyhurst 11-4 in the first period, but had several good opportunities come up empty until sophomore Aliza Goss put the Saints on the board with a goal off a pretty setup by Wilson at 15:18.

While the Saints continued to control play in the second period, they didn't break the game open until the third. Caroline Trudeau scored her first of the year from Stacy Boudrias and Nicole Kirnan on a rebound shot at 4:02 of the third and the Saint rookie line of Amanda Sargeant, Chera Marshall and Shannon Smith capped off a strong showing with a goal from Sargeant with Marshall and Smith assisting at 11:28 of the third. Wilson completed the scoring off a pass from Meghan Maguire at 16:46.

Stein, who missed the bulk of last season due to illness and injury, was strong in the goal as she had 18 saves for the shutout.

"I was pleased with the overall effort tonight," said Flanagan. "We played well in all areas of the game. This is a great way to start the season, and hopefully we can build on tonight's success."

The Saint defense did an outstanding job again Saturday as it limited Mercyhurst to just six shots through the first two periods and Smith provided more than enough offense with her first two collegiate goals.

Her first came from Sargeant and Colleen Coakley at 13:46 of the first period and the second was set up by Sargeant at 8:09 of the second. Trudeau added her second of the weekend from Boudrias and Kirnan on a power play at 2:38 of the third period to wrap up the scoring.

Ungewitter had her busiest period in the third with seven saves. The Saints had ten power play chances in a tightly-called contest which included 18 penalties between the two teams.
