HARBEC NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK


Nov. 28: Sophomore forward Sabrina Harbec was named the ECAC Hockey League Player of the Week Monday afternoon. It is the third time this season she has been honored by the league.

 

Harbec led the Saints to a sweep of the Conecticut Huskies with a seven-point weekend. On Friday, Harbec had a hand in five of the Saints six goals, with five points (1g, 4a). She fell just one assist shy of tying the St. Lawrence single-game assist record (5). Her five point output ranks as the fourth highest single-game point total. On Saturday, she followed up with a goal and an assist. Harbec's assist game on freshman Carson Duggan's game-winning goal late in the first. Her power play goal in the second pushed the Saints lead to two.

 

Harbec leads the Saints in points with 22 and assists with 14. She is second on the team with eight goals. Harbec also has three power play goals and two gamewinners.

 

The No.1 St. Lawrence Women's Hockey team (11-0-2, 2-0-2) will face off against the No.8 Clarkson Golden Knights this week in a North Country showdown. The first game is Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Appleton Arena, with game time set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast by 92.7 FM or on the web at http://www.stlawu.edu/sports/radio.html. NO.1 SAINTS BLANK HUSKIES, REMAIN UNBEATEN

 

Nov. 26: The No.1 Saints Women’s Hockey team (11-0-2, 2-0-2) extended their record unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 4-0 win over the Connecticut Huskies (4-9-0, 3-3-0) Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y. Freshman Marianna Locke led St. Lawrence with two goals in the game. The Saints 14-game unbeaten streak dates back to the final game of last season.

 

St. Lawrence opened the scoring at 15:15 in the first with freshman Carson Duggan’s 11 th goal of the season. Sophomore Sabrina Harbec put a shot on Huskies’ goalie Kaitlyn Shain, and Duggan poked home the rebound giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.

 

Harbec scored her second of the weekend and eighth of the season at 8:37 in the second, cashing in a on the Saints second power play opportunity of the game. Junior Abbie Bullard fired a shot from the point that was tipped in front by Duggan. The puck slid out to Harbec in the far face-off circle, who wristed it over Shain’s right shoulder for the score.

 

Locke got in on the scoring, converting on St. Lawrence’s next power play, when Alicia Ramolla went to the penalty box. Duggan passed to Bullard on the point, who fired a shot on the Huskies net. Locke, in the slot, tipped the puck past Shain for her first of the day. Locke scored her second of the day at 17:06 in the third to close out the scoring. The Huskies were controlling the puck deep in their own end, when Locke stepped in and intercepted a pass. She took the puck and walked in on Shain, beating her stick-side for her sixth of the season.

 

The Saints outshot the Huskies 53 to 10 on the day. Shain made 49 saves in the loss for Connecticut. Sophomore Meaghan Guckian made 10 saves in her third win of the season and second shutout. St. Lawrence was 2-of-5 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.

 

The Saints return to ECAC Hockey League action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 as they host their North Country rivals, the Clarkson Golden Knights. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y. The teams will meet again on Friday, Dec. 2 at Cheel Arena in Potsdam.

 

NO.1 SAINTS ROLL TO 6-1 WIN OVER HUSKIES

 

Nov. 25: Sophomore forward Sabrina Harbec had a career-high five points and freshman forward Carson Duggan scored two goals to lead the No.1 St. Lawrence Women’s Hockey team (10-0-2, 2-0-2) to a 6-1 win over Connecticut (4-8-0, 3-3-0) Friday afternoon at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y. The Saints extended their school-record unbeaten streak, which dates back to last season, to 13 games.

 

The Saints opened the scoring at 5:52 in the first period, when Duggan scored her first of the game and team-leading ninth of the season. Harbec pulled in a pass from freshman Lisa Batchelor in the neutral zone and skated into the right corner. She sent a pass into the Duggan just outside the crease, who tipped it up over Kaitlyn Shain, giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead.

 

The Huskies answered back midway through the first when they capitalized on a Saints penalty. Batchelor was sent to the box for hooking at 8:00, and Connecticut struck at 9:22. Elizabeth Gallinaro received a pass from Jaclyn Hawkins in the high slot and roofed it past Saints goalie Jessica Moffat to knot the score at 1-1.

 

The Saints offense came alive with 5:26 to play in the second and went on to score five unanswered. Freshman Alison Domenico cashed in on a power play opportunity after Janelle Armitage was sent to the box for obstruction-hooking. Senior Emilie Berlinguette passed the puck out to Domenico on the right post, who lifted the puck over Shain to give St. Lawrence a 2-1 lead. St. Lawrence struck just 1:26 later to make it 3-1, with Batchelor’s third of the season. On a nearly identical play from the first goal, Harbec fed Batchelor in the high slot from the corner. Batchelor one-timed Harbec’s shot past Shain.

 

Duggan struck again just 3:41 into the third period, with assists from Harbec and sophomore Kerri Wallace. In the corner, Harbec collected a pass from Wallace and fed Duggan at the near post who one-timed it past Shain. At 6:13, the Saints converted another power play opportunity to take a 5-1 lead. With Natalie Vibert in the box for body checking, Harbec sent the puck out to sophomore Annie Guay in the high slot. Guay wristed a shot past Shain for her second of the season.

 

Harbec closed out the scoring at 13:28, connecting again with Guay. Junior Abbie Bullard passed to Guay in the Saints zone, and Guay sent a cross ice pass to Harbec. Harbec took the pass and skated in all alone on Shain. She forced her down to the ice and then beat her stick side for her seventh of the season.

 

Moffat made 16 saves in net to move to 8-0-0 on the season. Shain posted 29 saves in the loss. The Saints went 2-of-4 on the power play and 1-of-3 on the penalty kill. St. Lawrence and Connecticut will meet again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m at Appleton Arena. Fans can listen to the game on 92.7 FM or on the web at http://www.stlawu.edu/sports/radio.html
