LOCKE NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

 

Nov. 21: Freshman forward Marianna Locke was named the ECAC Hockey League Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon.

 

Locke continued her recent goal scoring streak, netting three goals over the weekend as the Saints defeated Quinnipiac on Friday, and tied Princeton on Saturday. Locke posted her first career multi-point game, scoring two goals against the Bobcats, with one coming on the power play. On Saturday, she scored the Saints lone goal, also on the power play, against Princeton. Locke ranks sixth on the team with seven points (4g, 3a) and third among rookies.

 

NO.1 SAINTS BATTLE NO.8 TIGERS TO 1-1 TIE

 

Princeton , N.J. :After two scoreless periods, No.1 St. Lawrence (9-0-2, 2-0-2) and No.8 Princeton 4-2-2 , 2-1-1) both tallied power play goals to send the game into overtime. The Saints were outshot 5-2 in the extra period, but neither team was able to tally the game-winner. St. Lawrence remains the only unbeaten team in the nation and is on a school-record unbeaten streak.

 

St. Lawrence's goal came at the 8:16 mark of the final period as the Saints took advantage of a power play on a body checking penalty to Dina McCumber. In the circle to Roxanne Gaudiel's left, junior Abbie Bullard fired the puck toward the net, where freshman Marianna Locke was waiting to notch the first score of the game. It was Locke’s third goal of the weekend.

 

Princeton answered with 4:06 left on the clock in regulation when freshman Alison Domenico was whistled for roughing. In front of a crowded net, Kim Pearce scored with assists from Laura Watt and Annie Greenwood. The Saints were forced to kill of a two-person advantage for the Tigers near the end of regulation.

 

St. Lawrence outshot Princeton, 31-26, with sophomore Meaghan Guckian making 25 saves in net for the Saints. Gaudiel stopped 30 shots for the Tigers. Penalties were about even, with Princeton players being sent to the box 10 times, one more than St. Lawrence.

 

The Saints return to action next weekend for just their second home series this season. St. Lawrence will take on the Connecticut Huskies in a break from ECAC Hockey League play. The Saints and the Huskies will meet Friday, Nov. 25 at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

 

LOCKE, HARBEC LEAD NO.1 SAINTS TO 5-1 WIN OVER BOBCATS

 

Hamden, Conn.: Sophomore Sabrina Harbec and freshman Marianna Locke each netted two goals to lead the No.1 St. Lawrence Women’s Hockey team (9-0-1, 2-0-1) to a 5-1 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats (4-6-2, 2-3-1) in ECAC Hockey League play Friday night. With the win, the Saints broke the school record for longest unbeaten streak at 10.

 

Freshman Carson Duggan opened the scoring for the Saints when she scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season at 10:14 in the first. Quinnipiac’s Jennifer Maclean was sent to the penalty box for tripping at 9:20, setting up a Saints power play. St. Lawrence cashed in on its third power play opportunity of the game, when Duggan scored with assists from Harbec and sophomore Annie Guay.

 

Harbec scored her fifth of the season at 15:40 as the Saints scored on their second consecutive power play. This time it was Duggan and freshman Alison Domenico assisting on the play. Quinnipiac cut the lead to 2-1 with just 32 seconds left in the opening period. Karrah Stephen scored off an assist from Vicky Graham.

 

St. Lawrence responded in the second, when Locke scored back to back goals pushing the Saints lead to 4-1. Her first goal came at 7:41 in the period off assists from freshman Jordan Pyers and senior Tracy Muzerall. When Kristin Emerick went to the box for high sticking at 12:24 in the period, the Saints would take advantage of the extra skater. Locke scored her second of the period at 13:21, as Guay and Harbec picked up their second assists of the day. Harbec and Guay would combine again, midway through the third, as Harbec scored the final goal of the evening to give the Saints a 5-1 win.

 

St. Lawrence outshot Quinnipiac 48 to 24 on the evening, including a 39 to 17 advantage after two. The Saints went 3-of-7 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill. Senior Jessica Moffat made 23 saves to earn her seventh win of the season. Connie Craig stopped 40-of-45 shots in just over 51 minutes of play. Janelle Wolitski made three saves in relief. Harbec’s four points is a new career high, while this is the first time since March 7, 2004 that the Saints had two two-goal scorers in one game.

 

The Saints return to action Saturday afternoon, as they look to extend their unbeaten streak against the No.8 Princeton Tigers. The puck is set to drop at 4:00 p.m. at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, N.J.

 

SAINTS REMAIN NO.1; TAKE ON QUINNIPIAC AND PRINCETON THIS WEEKEND

 

Nov. 15: The St. Lawrence Women’s Hockey team (8-0-1, 1-0-0) retained its No.1 ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. The Saints extended their best start in school history to 8-0-1 with a win over then No.8 Dartmouth and a tie with then No.5 Harvard. This is the seventh straight week that the Saints have been tops in both polls. They received 14-of-15 first place votes in the USCHO.com poll and all 19 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

 

St. Lawrence continues its road warrior ways this weekend as the Saints travel to Quinnipiac and Princeton. St. Lawrence opened ECAC Hockey League play last weekend and is unbeaten at 1-0-1. The Saints and the Bobcats will meet for the first time in their history as Quinnipiac is the newest member of the ECACHL. Quinnipiac swept Union last weekend to improve to 4-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the league. Game time from the Northfield Ice Pavilion in Hamden, Conn. is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.

 

On Saturday, the Saints will square off against No.8 Princeton. The Tigers split with Ohio State last weekend in non-league action, and are now 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the league. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, N.J. St. Lawrence and Princeton have met 16 times since the Saints became a Division I program, and lead the series 11-5-0. St. Lawrence swept the Tigers in last season’s series, winning 3-2 at Appleton Arena and 5-2 at Hobey Baker Rink, and has won five straight.
