2005-2006 Archives HARBEC NAMED ECACHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Oct. 24: Sophomore forward Sabrina Harbec was named the ECACHL Player of the Week Monday afternoon. Harbec scored two goals, just 6:31 apart, in the Saints 4-1 win over the McGill Martlets in an exhibition match in Montreal, Que., this past Friday night.
Her first goal of the game came at 7:32 in the second and pushed the Saints lead to 2-0. That goal also proved to be the gamewinner. Her second goal was a short-handed tally at 14:03 in the period, extending St. Lawrence's lead to 3-0. In SLU's non-exhibition games this year, Harbec has a goal and three assists. Her three assists leads the ECAC Hockey League.
The Saints (3-0-0) return to action this weekend as they travel to Erie, Pa. to face the No.8 Mercyhurst Lakers (3-3-0) in a non-conference series. The puck is set to drop Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
SAINTS KEEP MOMENTUM, BEAT McGILL
Oct. 21: The nationally ranked No. 1 St. Lawrence University women’s hockey team defeated McGill University 4-1 at McConnell Arena in Montreal , Canada Friday evening.
Although the game is considered an exhibition, the Saints were not taking the Martlets lightly, as they were ranked as the No. 4 team in Canada . After a scoreless first period of action, the Saints came out hot in the 2 nd period. They exploded for three goals, two from sophomore Sabrina Harbec, and one from senior Emilie Berlinguette to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Then, freshman forward Jordan Pyers tallied her first goal of her career early in the third period, pushing the Saint lead to 4-0. Senior goaltender Jessica Moffat played for the first 53:25, stopping each of the 15 shots she faced and got the win for the Saints. Backup Kaitlin Branon played the final 6:35 , and McGill broke the shutout with a late goal from Rebecca Martindale.
The Saints, who out shot McGill 31-19 on Friday, will now turn their sights to Erie , PA as they travel to Mercyhurst next weekend for a pair of games versus the No. 8 team in the country, the Mercyhurst Lakers. The games will be played on Saturday, Oct. 29, and Sunday Oct. 30.
SAINTS RETAIN NO.1 POSITION
Oct. 19: The St. Lawrence Women’s Hockey team, undefeated at 3-0-0, retained its position atop the national polls this week, for the third straight week. The Saints opened the season at No.1 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
St. Lawrence is led the season by a mix of youth and experience. Freshman Alison Domenico and sophomore Sabrina Harbec lead the team with four points each. Senior Emilie Berlinguette, and freshman Carson Duggan and Marianna Locke have three points each. Duggan leads the team in goals with three, after netting a hat trick at Wayne State last Saturday. Domenico and junior Crystal Connors are second with two goals apiece.
Senior Jessica Moffat has started all three games between the pipes for the Saints. She posts a1.00 goals against average, with a .945 save percentage. She is undefeated at 3-0-0 and posted her ninth career shutout on Saturday against the Warriors.
St. Lawrence travels north to Montreal, Que. on Friday to take on the McGill Martlets (2-0-0) in the Saints second exhibition game of the season. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. at McConnell arena. St. Lawrence then travels to Erie, Pa. to face the No.8 Mercyhurst Lakers ( 3-1-0) in a two game set Oct. 29-30. The Saints return home on Nov. 5 as they host Providence for their first contest in Appleton Arena this season. On Nov. 6, St. Lawrence plays host to Northeastern.
TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ECACHL ALL-STAR GAME
Oct. 19: Tickets are now available for the Nov. 1 game between the U.S. Women’s National Team and the ECACHL All-Star team. Fans can contact the Yale Ticket Office at 203-432-1400 for tickets or use the ticket form. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Ingalls Rink on the campus of Yale University .
The ECACHL All-Star roster includes Saints senior Emilie Berlinguette, and sophomores Annie Guay and Sabrina Harbec. Harbec is currently tied for first on the team with four points (1g, 3a) in just three games. Berlinguette is tied for third on the team with three points (0g, 3a). Guay leads the Saints defensemen with two points (1g, 1a).
This will be the third game of the Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour. The Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour features the U.S. Women's National Team on an 11-game schedule in preparation for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. The U.S. Women's National Team will visit 10 cities during the Hilton Family Skate to 2006 Tour, which opened on Sept. 30 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The Olympic Winter Games will take place in Torino, Italy, from February 10-26, 2006.
